Mike Johnson (R-La.) as House speaker a sign of the strength of the &#8220;MAGA movement&#8221; in the GOP and the waning power of \u200dthe &#8220;swamp.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After a three-week leadership void in the House, the GOP conference chose Mr. Johnson as their speaker nominee; he went on to \u200cwin 220 \u2062votes in the first \u200cfloor ballot \u200don Oct. 25.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gaetz, who led the motion to oust Rep. If you don&#8217;t think that moving from Kevin McCarthy\u200d to MAGA Mike Johnson shows the ascendance of\u2063 this movement and where the power in the Republican Party truly\u200c lies, then you&#8217;re\u2062 not paying attention,&#8221; Mr. Gaetz \u200csaid.<\/p>\n<p>The Floridian congressman shed light on the \u2063internal party deliberations that led to \u2063Mr. Johnson&#8217;s election following\u2063 the\u200d short-lived candidacy of Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), who withdrew his name hours after receiving the GOP nomination on\u200c Oct. 24.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Johnson&#8217;s nomination followed\u2062 that of Mr. Emmer, who was \u2063the third speaker nominee \u2063after Reps. (Alex Wong\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mr. Gaetz said that following Mr. Emmer&#8217;s withdrawal, Mr. McCarthy was the sole \u200cGOP member\u200c to object \u200cto a request by Rep. Marcus Molinaro (R-N.Y.), a freshman congressman, for unanimous consent to waive the rules and take a nonbinding poll\u200c on \u2062whether \u2063Mr. Johnson could be \u2063the nominee.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. McCarthy&#8217;s objection, in Mr. Gaetz&#8217;s view, was evidence that the former speaker &#8220;was worried that there was going to be this great, unifying moment&#8221; of rallying behind Mr. Johnson that would hurt Mr. McCarthy&#8217;s chances of being reelected, so &#8220;he scuttled the \u2063unifying moment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. McCarthy hadn&#8217;t put his name in the ring to run again for the speakership.<\/p>\n<p>The Epoch Times contacted Mr.\u200b McCarthy&#8217;s office \u2063for comment but received none by press time.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Gaetz Says He &#8216;Wasn&#8217;t the Force for Chaos&#8217;<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;So, they flame out terribly,&#8221; \u200cMr. Gaetz said. &#8220;Mike \u200cJohnson&#8217;s gaining momentum. Ultimately, McCarthy gets 43 to vote for him on\u200b a secret ballot. But Mike\u2064 Johnson gets a majority.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Johnson\u200d then\u200d requested\u200b a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mcconnell-warns-dems-would-regret-abolishing-filibuster-nuclear-winter\/\" title=\"McConnell Warns Dems Would Regret Abolishing Filibuster: \u2018Nuclear Winter\u2019\">roll-call vote<\/a>, according to Mr. \u200dGaetz.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So that those 43 would\u200c have\u200c to announce \u200dthemselves as being for a candidate who wasn&#8217;t even running, instead of a unifying \u2064force like Mike Johnson,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And when we called for the roll call, do you know how many people voted for Kevin McCarthy? Zero.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gaetz accused the former \u2063speaker of attempting to sabotage the chances of the last four speaker nominees while maneuvering in the shadows to be reelected himself.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone in the room knew at \u200dthat moment \u2063that I wasn&#8217;t the\u2064 force for chaos; I wasn&#8217;t causing disunity; that for \u2062the last three weeks, the reason the House of Representatives has been paralyzed is because, for his\u2063 own selfish gain, Kevin \u2063McCarthy was sabotaging\u2062 the\u2063 candidacy of anyone else because he was plotting a return,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\">\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Newly elected U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson \u200d(R-La.) takes his oath \u200cof office after the House\u2064 of Representatives held an election in the U.S. Capitol in Washington on \u200dOct. \u206225, 2023. (Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mr.\u2064 Johnson received a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/inside-brendan-frasers-incredible-comeback\/\" title=\"Inside Brendan Fraser\u2019s Incredible Comeback\">prolonged standing ovation<\/a> from fellow Republicans upon his \u200bnomination by Conference Chair\u2062 Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.).<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gaetz hailed Mr. Johnson&#8217;s election \u200bto the speakership as a victory over &#8220;the \u2063swamp,&#8221; a term used\u200d often by former President Donald Trump, who started the MAGA\u2063 movement\u2063 with his \u20642016 campaign, the slogan of which was &#8220;Make America great again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They\u2064 are crying, they \u200dare hand-wringing,\u2063 they are bed-wetting over on K\u200d Street because we have an honorable, righteous\u2062 man who is about to take this position. He\u2019s going to do great things for\u200d the country,&#8221; Mr. Gaetz said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gaetz, who has been \u200con the House Judiciary Committee with Mr. Johnson for several years, \u200dpraised the \u2062newly\u200c minted speaker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u200d is sharp. He will be \u2063as respected in \u2063the\u200d homes of our most meaningful, righteous, and patriotic donors as he will [be] at the rallies with our \u200bmost enthusiastic and meaningful activists,\u201d Mr. Gaetz said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Johnson&#8217;s election was praised \u2063by \u200bformer speaker nominees Mr. Emmer and\u200c Mr. Scalise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2063 know Mike will keep our majority united as we continue to deliver on the commitments we&#8217;ve made to our constituents,\u201d Mr. Emmer said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u200d Scalise praised Mr. Johnson&#8217;s commitment &#8220;to\u2063 things\u2064 bigger than himself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Johnson, 51, \u200dis an attorney and former radio host.
