Mike Johnson for Speaker<\/h3>\n<p>10\/25\/2023<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Attorney Sydney Powell, \u200dwho supported efforts\u200d to challenge the 2020 election\u2062 results, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/sidney-powell-pleads-guilty-in-fulton-county-election-case-5513297\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pled guilty on Oct. 19 \u200cto six misdemeanor charges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The following day, attorney Kenneth Chesebro <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/chesebro-accepts-plea-deal-in-georgia-trump-case-5514072\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">took\u2064 a plea \u2064deal<\/a> and accepted one felony count of conspiracy to commit filing false documents.<\/p>\n<p>Jenna Ellis, \u2064another attorney who supported President Trump&#8217;s efforts to challenge the 2020 election results, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/former-trump-lawyer-pleads-guilty-in-georgia-case-5515788\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also pled\u200c guilty<\/a> on Tuesday to a single felony count of aiding and abetting false statements and writings.<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2062 Hall, a bail bondsman who was also charged in the \u2062Fulton County \u2062case, \u200calso <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-co-defendant-scott-hall-pleads-guilty-in-georgia-rico-case-5501151\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">took a plea deal last month<\/a>, accepting responsibility for five misdemeanor counts of conspiracy \u200cto commit\u2062 intentional interference with the performance \u2062of election \u200cduties.<\/p>\n<p>As part of their plea deals, Mr. \u200bChesebro, Mr. Hall, Ms. Powell, and Ms. Ellis\u200c have all agreed to testify for the prosecution\u2064 as it proceeds \u200bwith its case against\u200d President Trump and the\u200b remaining co-defendants.<\/p>\n<figure>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"image-url\" alt=\"Jenna\u2064 Ellis (C) reacts\u2063 after reading\u2064 a statement \u2064pleading guilty to a felony count of aiding and abetting false statements and writings at the Fulton County Courthouse in Atlanta on Oct. \u206324,\u2062 2023.\"><figcaption>Jenna Ellis (C) reacts after reading a statement pleading\u2062 guilty\u2064 to a felony count of aiding and abetting false statements and writings at the\u200c Fulton\u2063 County Courthouse in Atlanta on Oct. 24, 2023. (John Bazemore-Pool\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mr. Gelman\u2014who served \u2063as the assistant county prosecutor in Burlington County, New Jersey, before launching his own criminal defense practice in 2017, Gelman Law\u2014suggested the prosecutors likely offered\u200c these early\u2062 plea\u200d deals\u2064 to see if they could get other defendants in the case \u2062to flip and isolate\u2062 President Trump\u2064 legally.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I was \u2062a \u2062prosecutor, we charged everybody as \u200cmuch as we possibly could,\u200b for the \u200csimple reason that we know people \u200dare going to flip,&#8221; Mr. Gelman said. &#8220;&#8230;[The prosecutors] want to make everybody just kind of sweat if you will, and kind of \u2062just break, and you know flip if you want on the main individual. In \u200dthis situation, it&#8217;s the former president.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Steve \u2063Sadow, an attorney representing President Trump in \u200bthe Fulton County case, has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-attorney-unfazed-by-guilty-pleas-says-lawyers-deal-was-result-of-pressure-5514217\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">minimized the risk his client could face<\/a> \u2062 if \u200dprosecutors called Ms. Powell or Mr. Chesebro to the witness\u200d stand.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Sadow said\u2064 if the prosecution does indeed call\u2064 Ms. Powell to \u200dtestify, her truthful testimony would only bolster President Trump&#8217;s defense arguments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I fully expect that truthful testimony would be favorable to my defense strategy,\u201d Mr. Sadow \u200cagain added following Mr. Chesebro&#8217;s guilty plea.<\/p>\n<h2>More Plea Deals \u2063&#8217;Likely&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Gelman said defendants often enter \u200cplea agreements because they can&#8217;t keep\u2064 up with their legal costs and predicted many of \u200cthe remaining defendants in this case \u2063would likely do the same.<\/p>\n<p>He said it will \u2063be difficult to know how President Trump&#8217;s legal\u2064 team will\u200b respond until they \u200cknow how these other defendants may testify.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What are they going to\u2062 offer? That is the whole question on \u200dthis. And if I&#8217;m\u200b the defense attorneys for Donald Trump,\u2062 remember, they&#8217;re going to have the opportunity to cross-examine all these individuals who have cut plea deals \u2062and who \u200bare allegedly\u200c going to testify against him,&#8221; Mr. Gelman\u2064 said.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, the\u200d prosecutor-turned-defense\u2063 attorney \u2064argued that any co-defendants who do take plea deals \u2063won&#8217;t be able to prove President Trump intended to commit a \u200bcrime.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;re \u200dnot going to\u200b show the\u200c intent of Donald \u2062Trump,&#8221;\u2062 Mr. Gelman told NTD News. &#8220;So unless they&#8217;re going to actually say that Donald Trump &#8216;ordered me to \u200cdo X, Y, and Z,&#8217;\u2063 I don&#8217;t\u2063 think they&#8217;re going to have really much to go on.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"image-url\" alt=\"Sidney Powell speaks during a press conference \u200cat the\u200c Republican National Committee headquarters \u2064in Washington on Nov.\u200d 19, 2020.\"><figcaption>Sidney Powell speaks during a press conference at the Republican National Committee headquarters in\u200d Washington\u200b on Nov. 19, 2020. (Mandel Ngan\/AFP via Getty \u200dImages)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Aug. \u206214 \u200dindictment alleges Mr. Chesebro recommended the Trump campaign&#8217;s strategy of nominating alternate \u200bslates of electors in the various states whose\u200c 2020 election results the Trump \u2063campaign had challenged.\u200d Mr.\u2062 Chesebro also allegedly communicated with other attorneys who were indicted in the Fulton County\u200c case,\u2063 including Ray Smith and John Eastman.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment alleges Ms. Powell and Ms. Ellis made false\u2064 statements concerning election fraud in Georgia at a Nov. 19 press conference on behalf of the Trump campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Powell\u200c also allegedly met with President Trump on Dec. 18, \u20632020, \u200dto\u2063 discuss strategies for \u2062challenging \u200cthe 2020 election results, including\u200c seizing vote \u2063tabulation\u2062 machines and granting her \u2063special counsel authority to investigate allegations of\u2063 voter fraud in Georgia.
