McCarthy himself had faced a similar battle to secure his \u200dspeakership in January.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson&#8217;s\u2063 victory was even more decisive\u2064 than McCarthy&#8217;s, as he received 220 &#8220;yea&#8221; votes compared to McCarthy&#8217;s 216, with six House Republicans abstaining. \u200bOn\u2063 the\u200c Democratic side, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y.,\u200b received \u2064209 and 212 votes in each vote, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Several other GOP\u200b candidates, including Reps.
