Mentions His Occupation<\/h2>\n<p>Body camera \u200dfootage\u200c of New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave\u2019s Monday arrest\u2064 appears \u200bto show the star wideout\u2064 attempted to \u2064use his occupation to get in good with the local police.<\/p>\n<p>There was one problem for the officer\u200d who took the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/michigan-star-reveals-key-factor-dominating-win-ohio-state-love-lord\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio State football<\/a> star into custody:\u2063 He didn\u2019t \u2063care.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/38730427\/saints-wr-chris-olave-arrested-suspicion-reckless-driving\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESPN<\/a> reported Olave,\u200d 23, was arrested in Kenner, Louisiana, on Monday on suspicion of reckless operation of a motor vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>A complaint against the player alleges he was driving double the \u200bspeed limit\u200c \u2014 70 in \u2062a 35 \u2014 when he was pulled over while\u2064 driving a Dodge Charger.<\/p>\n<p>Police in Kenner say <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4361370\/chris-olave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Olave<\/a> was also weaving in and out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/super-fog-conditions-cause-massive-deadly-pile-interstate-blocking-traffic-directions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">traffic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As\u2063 the Kenner Police Department put it, Olave was \u201cobserved traveling at \u200bthe high rate of speed, recklessly maneuvering between lanes\u200c and around other drivers on the roadway.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The department released\u2064 footage \u200dof the player\u2019s arrest on Tuesday afternoon that \u200dshows Olive\u200c exiting his vehicle just after 11 p.m. on \u200dMonday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTurn around,\u201d the officer told him as the player was handcuffed.<\/p>\n<p>As the arresting \u2064officer explained to Olive why he was pulled over and why he was being handcuffed, the \u206323-year-old made an unusual statement.<\/p>\n<p>As \u200bhe was informed he was going <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-says-willing-go-jail-takes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to jail<\/a>, Olave expressed some remorse\u2063 over his alleged dangerous driving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy bad, dawg.\u2063 I play for the Saints, man,\u201d he said as he was about to be placed into the back of a police cruiser.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2064 isn\u2019t clear if Olive\u2019s arresting officer is an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/glory-jesus-lord-savior-nfl-star-says-game-career-powers-team-upset-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NFL<\/a> fan, but he definitely wasn\u2019t impressed by the statement.<\/p>\n<p>The officer shot back, \u201cAnd?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Throughout\u200d the remaining \u2064six minutes of the video\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dem-mayor-comes-big-realization-giving-george-floyd-police-reforms-try\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">police<\/a> \u2064released, Olave never again attempted to \u2063name-drop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-roger-goodell-says-nfl-may-add-new-international-host-game-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his employer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The young man is presumed innocent and doesn\u2019t appear\u200d to be \u200dfacing any kind of punishment he can\u2019t\u200d afford to navigate.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps being so young and having the world at his fingertips made Olave feel invincible, which is \u200dunderstandable, \u2062given his age, wealth and fame.<\/p>\n<p>But speed kills.<\/p>\n<p>Speed doesn\u2019t just and touchdowns \u2014 as the league should \u2062have stressed more to its young players following the tragic 2021\u2063 crash that saw then-Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-ex-las-vegas-raider-henry-ruggs-sentenced-3-plus-years-prison-fatal-dui-crash-nevada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Henry Ruggs<\/a> kill a 23-year-old woman in \u200bNevada.<\/p>\n<p>Ruggs\u2064 was said to have been drunk \u200band \u200cdriving and going 156 \u200cmph in his Corvette\u200b just before he \u200cslammed into the \u200dback of\u200d Tina Tintor, who burned to death with her dog, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/surveillance-video-shows-extreme-speed-at-which-henry-ruggs-was-driving#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC Sports<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>A life was ended and a career was also cut short, as Ruggs is now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5vegas.com\/2023\/08\/21\/ex-raiders-player-henry-ruggs-booked-into-nevada-prison-records-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an inmate<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-trump-rivals-say-nevada-republicans-new-rules-big-win-45\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nevada\u2019s<\/a> penitentiary system.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, Olave didn\u2019t \u2064harm anyone Monday.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s abundantly clear that the NFL\u2019s young stars need \u2064to\u2063 learn from the mistakes of\u2062 their peers.
