the attorneys general say.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the lawsuit focuses on Instagram, which the attorneys general said is or \u200bhas been \u2062used by \u2063at least half of American teens often to the detriment of their\u200b mental well-being.<\/p>\n<p>Per the complaint, Meta uses\u200b Instagram to manipulate teens into coming \u200conto the platform and staying there by using its algorithms to shape their perceptions.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200dattorneys general say Instagram&#8217;s use \u2062of a never-ending &#8220;feed&#8221; results in children being &#8220;teased&#8221; to spend time \u2063on the platform.<\/p>\n<p>The platform&#8217;s &#8220;Reels&#8221; feature, which is similar to TikTok, is \u200calso cited as a \u200cmeans to keep children on the servers.<\/p>\n<p>Reels are a never-ending series of videos that Meta&#8217;s algorithms \u2062curate for\u2064 users based on their interests.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit was filed in the Northern District \u2063of California \u200band is seeking penalties, restitution and a ruling from a court\u2064 to force \u200dMeta \u200bto end its current \u200cpractices.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit \u200bwas endorsed \u2063by \u200dattorneys general from coast \u2064to\u2062 coast\u2063 and from officials representing states from New York to Kansas.<\/p>\n<p>A representative for Meta denied \u200bthe claims in the lawsuit in a statement that was provided to NBC \u2064News on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We share the attorneys general&#8217;s commitment to providing teens with safe, positive experiences online, and have already introduced over 30 \u200dtools to support\u200d teens and their families,&#8221;
