Or just a \u2063sign that Taylor Swift has the most maniacal (and that\u2019s mostly a pejorative)\u200c fans on the face of\u2062 the planet?<\/p>\n<p>Honestly? It\u2019s probably a little bit of\u2062 both \u2026 but more of the former.<\/p>\n<p>For the\u200d unaware, new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/patrick-mahomes-wife-somehow-becomes-biggest-victim-taylor-swifts-viral-nfl-moment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NFL fan<\/a> \u2062Taylor Swift \u2064released a\u2062 \u201cmovie\u201d in theaters on Oct. 13. Those quotes are there to denote \u200bthat this film is largely just an at-home viewing of one of \u200dher concerts, specifically her wildly successful \u201cEras\u201d tour.<\/p>\n<p>It is not a\u200b traditional movie\u200c in any sense of \u200cthe word.<\/p>\n<p>That fact has not stopped the film from dominating\u200d the box office.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/10\/box-office-taylor-swift-killers-of-the-flower-moon-1235579033\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deadline\u2019s<\/a> latest numbers, \u201cTaylor\u2062 Swift: Eras Tour\u201d has raked in a hearty $131.1\u2062 million at the box office since releasing a little \u2062over a week ago.<\/p>\n<p>That $131.1 million, when broken down however,\u2063 should furrow the brows of Hollywood \u200dexecutives \u2014 because there\u2019s a lot to unpack, and most \u2062of it isn\u2019t good for \u200bHollywood.<\/p>\n<h3>A Hollywood Prestige Piece Falls Short<\/h3>\n<p>First and foremost, a Hollywood prestige piece was\u200c unable to \u200cknock \u201cEras Tour\u201d off its perch, despite the prestige piece\u200c debuting and Swift\u2019s film entering its second weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Per Deadline, \u2063\u201cKillers of the Flower Moon,\u201d a lengthy period piece starring Leonardo DiCaprio\u200d and directed by\u2063 the legendary Martin Scorsese, brought in $23 million in its debut\u2062 weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Swift\u2019s concert film brought in over $31 million (there appears to\u200b be\u200c a dispute if it\u2019s $31 million or $32 million at the box office).<\/p>\n<p>Now, it\u2019s certainly debatable if Scorsese still holds the cachet he held\u200b at the peak of\u2063 his powers, and there\u2019s nothing wrong with \u200bmaking $23 million in your opening weekend.<\/p>\n<p>But\u2062 it\u2019s hard not to juxtapose \u201cKillers,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hollywood-should-be-panicking-after-taylor-swifts-movie-takes-top-spot-for-2nd-straight-week\/\" title=\"Taylor Swift's movie dominates Hollywood for second week in a row, causing panic.\">prestige period piece<\/a> with star power up and down\u200c the credits, with \u201cEras,\u201d a bubbly, pop music concert\u200d (that also features a lengthy run time\u200b of two hours and 49 minutes) that almost feels more like an add-on to a proper concert than a movie.<\/p>\n<h3>A Game-Changing\u200d Move by Taylor Swift<\/h3>\n<p>Perhaps even more concerning than the raw numbers and what they \u200bmean is \u200bthe manner in which Swift produced this film.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/entertainment\/taylor-swifts-eras-tour-movie-missed-making-millions-more-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox Business<\/a> points out, Swift completely skipped out on a rather sizable middle man: Hollywood \u200dstudios.<\/p>\n<p>Swift instead\u200c opted to work directly with a theater chain (AMC Theaters in this case), effectively eliminating whatever notable cut that studios typically take from a movie\u2019s profits.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a brilliant \u2062move by her (to\u2063 her minimal credit, Swift may be a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/taylor-swift-halts-concert-deliver-message-young-fans-christian-parents-wont-like\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">far-left loon<\/a>, but\u2063 she \u200dis \u2062an outstanding capitalist) and a rather worrisome one for studios.<\/p>\n<p>Because if Swift is onto\u200d something here, with the way she simply cut out a studio to work directly with a distributor, that could drastically alter the way Hollywood operates.<\/p>\n<p>For many \u2062people, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/final-nail-coffin-hollywood-60-projects-major-stars-exempt-strike\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Hollywood reboot<\/a> (as\u200c overwrought as reboots are in 2023) would actually \u2062be a rather significant improvement \u2014 even if Swift is the catalyst for it.<\/p>\n<h3>Unique Circumstances or Swift&#8217;s Star Power?<\/h3>\n<p>Now, of course, there is a chance that Hollywood\u2064 executives aren\u2019t \u200bgiving this \u2063a passing thought because it\u2019s Taylor Swift \u2014 arguably the\u200b most famous person, at the very least the \u200dmost famous musician, in the world currently.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s\u200c the kind of clout and power that money can\u2019t buy, so it\u2019s fair to wonder if these unique trappings (the\u200b low $15 million budget for the movie, the cutting out of a Hollywood studio) are solely unique to Swift.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, not too many people\u200c are as popular or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nfl-fans-stunned-string-referee-blunders-benefited-taylor-swifts-new-favorite-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">influential as Swift<\/a> \u200bis in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Deadline\u2063 noted that the \u201cEras Tour [became] the first concert film in history to\u2063 make more than $100 million at the\u200c domestic box office and did so in just five days of showtimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So this route of navigating\u200b Hollywood may not be possible for everyone, save for \u200bthe richest and most famous.<\/p>\n<p>But at the very least, it provides a blueprint of how to \u201cwin\u201d in Hollywood\u2064 without abiding by its rules.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s pretty neat\u200b (well, maybe not to Hollywood executive-types)\u200c \u2014 even
