Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who was recently voted out of the position, had pledged to release the Jan. 6\u200d footage. He provided some of the tapes to former Fox News host\u2062 Tucker Carlson, who aired the footage in March and claimed that Democrats and federal officials have misled the public over\u2064 the incident, saying it wasn&#8217;t a &#8220;violent insurrection&#8221; as some \u2062have described.<\/p>\n<p>Since March, Mr. McCarthy has not \u200creleased any more footage, and Mr. \u200dCarlson was ousted from Fox\u2063 News in April over unclear reasons. Since \u200dthen, \u2063the former \u2064Fox host has hosted a regular program on X, formerly known as Twitter.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Conservative-leaning journalist Julie Kelly wrote\u200c on X that\u200c House Republicans\u200c haven&#8217;t released \u200dany of \u200bthe footage, alleging the GOP has \u200bgone back on its pledge.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>&#8220;The pledge by GOP to release all the Jan 6 videos has been broken. I believed my \u200dinvolvement to make footage available was a temporary fix until staff could protect\u200b innocents from DOJ and thugs like Sedition Hunters.\u200b Now I see GOP\u2062 has capitulated to DOJ and Capitol police,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/en.rattibha.com\/thread\/1698521969522528396\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she wrote<\/a> on Sept. 3.<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>But there have been concerns about releasing the footage to the public, even among \u200bsome House Republicans\u200c who \u200chave criticized the government over its treatment of the Jan. 6 suspects. Rep. (Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;I called for releasing the tapes and stopped doing \u2063so when it was explained to me that groups like sedition hunters would use facial recognition\u2062 software to go after more vulnerable people,&#8221; Mrs. Taylor Greene wrote, responding to Ms. Kelly&#8217;s \u200dstatement on X. &#8220;After seeing the horrific inhumane treatment of pretrial J6 defendants in the DC jail in 2021 and being one of the few members of congress that is against the \u200bpersecution of J6\u2019ers, I was afraid the DOJ would unjustly target more people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, she later wrote that Republican supporters can \u200dalso &#8220;use facial recognition&#8221; to go after &#8220;feds and\/or provocateurs who were involved\u200d in J6 that the \u200cDOJ protects.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m all for \u2062releasing the tapes! Enough of this kabuki theater, it\u2019s time to end this,&#8221;\u200b she added. &#8220;Everyone needs the truth and the weaponized government must be \u200cstopped.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The statement by Mr. Donalds, a backer of former \u2063President Donald Trump who was elected in\u200b 2020, \u200dcomes after House Republicans have failed to find a suitable nominee\u2063 for the \u2064House speaker position after Mr. McCarthy&#8217;s ouster several weeks ago. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) tried to secure \u2063enough votes to become speaker in the narrowly divided House\u200b but was unable to do so in multiple rounds of voting last week, coming after House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.)\u2064 pulled \u200dout of the contest days before.<\/p>\n<p>So far, at least nine House Republicans have announced they would be running for\u200b speaker, Reps. Jack Bergman of Michigan,\u200c Tom Emmer of\u200b Minnesota, Kevin Hern of \u2063Oklahoma, Mike Johnson of Louisiana, Dan Meuser of Pennsylvania, Gary Palmer of \u2064Alabama, Austin Scott\u200b of Georgia, and Pete Sessions of Texas, along with Mr. Donalds.<\/p>\n<p>Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich criticized the House GOP for\u200b dragging their feet during a \u201cFox News Sunday\u201d\u2062 appearance and added that he wishes\u200d that women like Rep. Elise \u2064Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and Rep. \u2064Beth Van Duyne (R-Texas) were running.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Mike Flood (R-Neb.), meanwhile, introduced a \u200d&#8221;unity pledge&#8221; late last week, which seeks Republicans to commit to supporting \u2063the &#8220;Speaker Designate elected by the \u200cHouse\u2062 Republican\u2062 Conference\u2014regardless of who that candidate is\u2014when their election\u2062 proceeds to the House Floor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m urging all my colleagues to join this pledge so we can move forward with electing\u200c a \u200bSpeaker and get on with the\u200c people&#8217;s business,&#8221; Mr. Flood <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/usrepmikeflood\/status\/1715545897424089538?s=46&#038;t=FHdlJgnviujp6tjqAiHNfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a statement.
