At that time, my husband Abdulhakim Idris had lost contact with his entire family, including \u200chis parents, siblings, and their children. The panel discussion was broadcasted on YouTube,\u2062 amplifying my message.<\/p>\n<p>Mere six days later, my \u2064sister Gulshan Abbas, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lawmakers-activists-call-to-confront-chinas-most-sophisticated-and-comprehensive-transnational-repression\/\" title=\"Lawmakers, activists urge action against China's extensive transnational repression.\">retired medical doctor<\/a>, and my \u2063aunt, \u2062a retired school \u200bteacher, were arrested in two different cities, separated by over 900 miles. Their detention was a direct\u200c act of\u200b retaliation by the Chinese Communist Party against my outspokenness. My freedom of speech came at the cost of my sister&#8217;s freedom.<\/p>\n<p>I soon realized that the Chinese government orchestrated\u2062 these arrests\u200b to intimidate and \u2062silence\u2062 me. However, \u2063I refused to let them hold power \u2063over me. Instead, I\u200d dedicated myself to \u200cbecoming a full-time activist, advocating for my\u200c people, fighting for \u200dmy sister&#8217;s release, and\u200c exposing the heinous crimes committed by China.<\/p>\n<p>What the Chinese government failed\u200c to comprehend is the \u2062indomitable power of \u200blove. They underestimated the love I have \u200cfor my \u2062sister, my people, and the values of freedom \u2062and\u200c democracy.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Jan \u2064Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>How do you respond to those who claim that your \u2064activism puts your relatives in danger?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Rushan Abbas:<\/h2>\n<p>While\u2063 I do feel guilty \u2064about my sister&#8217;s \u200dimprisonment, I cannot solely focus \u2064on my own\u2063 family. The future of the \u2062free world is at stake, and the Chinese \u200dgovernment poses the greatest threat to our \u2062democracy.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We witness CEOs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/things-that-donald-trump-did-not-do\/\" title=\"Things That Donald Trump Did Not Do\">talk show hosts<\/a>, and Hollywood celebrities protesting various injustices. However, where are they when\u2062 the Chinese government is perpetrating a\u200d genocide against the Uyghur people? \u2064Where are they when Uyghur women are subjected to forced sterilization, forced abortions, and forced marriages to Han Chinese men? Where are\u2062 they when a million children are forcibly separated from their\u200d families?<\/p>\n<p>If we fail\u2063 to take action against the Chinese government\u200d now, it will be \u200cour \u200dchildren\u200c and\u200b grandchildren who bear the consequences.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Jan Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>You have been tirelessly\u2064 working on \u2064this cause for a long time. Can you outline your journey \u2064for us?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Rushan\u200c Abbas:<\/h2>\n<p>In 1998, I worked\u2064 as a reporter at Radio Free Asia when they established a Uyghur service. As the first\u200d Uyghur reporter, I resided in Washington, D.C. \u200dDuring that time, I felt immense frustration\u2063 when China was granted most \u200dfavored nation\u2063 status, despite its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/china-wont-be-bullied-u-s-media-celebrate-chinese-communist-partys-100th-anniversary\/\" title=\"\u2018China Won\u2019t Be Bullied\u2019: U.S. Media Celebrate Chinese Communist Party\u2019s 100th Anniversary\">abysmal human rights record<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I engaged with individuals in the State\u2064 Department and the Pentagon, highlighting the atrocities committed by the Chinese \u200cgovernment against the Uyghurs, Tibetans, and Falun Gong practitioners. Unfortunately, many \u2064believed \u200cthat by investing in China and providing them with technology,\u2063 money, and privileges, they would eventually embrace democracy.<\/p>\n<p>The 2008 Beijing\u2064 Olympics served as a turning point for \u200cChina&#8217;s human rights facade.\u2063 They projected an image of respecting freedom while oppressing Falun \u2063Gong \u200dpractitioners, Tibetans, and Uyghurs. The United States government was aware of \u2063China&#8217;s actions, yet no \u2064substantial measures were \u2064taken.<\/p>\n<p>Organ harvesting, initially targeting Falun Gong practitioners, has now become prevalent among Uyghurs.\u200c Shockingly, there were even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/threats-and-abduction-the-chinese-tactics-to-control-the-uyghur-genocide\/\" title=\"Chinese tactics to control the Uyghur genocide: threats and abduction.\">video advertisements \u2063promoting\u200c halal organs<\/a> in \u2063Muslim-majority and \u200bArabic-speaking countries. Yet, \u200cwe continue to appease the genocidal regime\u2062 of the Chinese Communist Party.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody \u200dcan claim ignorance anymore. We live in the information era, where overwhelming evidence exists. Even the United Nations Human Rights Council has\u200d released a report documenting mass detentions, \u200cforced labor, torture, \u200band sterilization. \u2063These \u200bare all elements that align with\u2064 the United Nations&#8217; own definition of \u200cgenocide.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Jan Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>For those who may not be familiar, genocide encompasses more than just mass killings. It includes \u2062policies aimed at eradicating a particular group through cultural assimilation \u200dand sterilization, among other \u2063means.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Rushan Abbas:<\/h2>\n<p>Precisely. While the Chinese government\u2063 carries out sterilization against Uyghur women, who represents the United\u200d Nations as \u200ca special envoy for women&#8217;s rights? None other than Peng Liyuan, \u2064Xi Jinping&#8217;s wife.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Jan \u2062Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>How is the CCP targeting Uyghur Americans?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Rushan \u2063Abbas:<\/h2>\n<p>Primarily, they hold\u2064 their family members\u2063 hostage.\u2064 In some instances, the\u2064 Chinese \u200dgovernment forces\u2063 these family members to call their children living in America, urging them to refrain from engaging in political activities, such \u2062as\u2064 attending \u200chearings. They say, &#8220;If you want to see us alive and free, please do nothing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Jan Jekielek:<\/h2>\n<p>What steps should the United States take moving forward?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Rushan Abbas:<\/h2>\n<p>The United\u2064 States must enact\u2063 legislation to\u200d safeguard the rights of \u200bUyghur Americans. We need laws that address \u2063the manipulation of\u2064 social\u200b media by the CCP&#8217;s trolls.\u200b The \u2062Chinese government is exploiting\u2062 democracy to undermine democracy itself and suppress American citizens.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Uyghur\u200b activists, \u200dcertain politicians, and journalists like yourself\u2062 are making a \u2063difference, and we will continue\u200c to fight.
