The list, \u200ccompiled by WalletHub,\u200d placed four \u2062cities from\u2064 each state\u2064 at\u200c the top. Tennessee and\u200b Wisconsin also had a strong presence on the list, with\u200c two cities each.<\/p>\n<p>The small cities that stood \u2062out the most, ranking\u200d in the 99th percentile, included Carmel, Indiana; Lexington, Massachusetts; Brentwood, \u200cTennessee; Westfield, Indiana; Fishers, Indiana; Fair Lawn, \u200bNew Jersey; Milton, Massachusetts; Melrose, Massachusetts; Saratoga Springs, New York; \u2062Brookfield, \u200cWisconsin; Bozeman, Montana; Apex, North Carolina; Redmond, \u2063Washington; Needham, Massachusetts;\u200c Kaysville, Utah; \u2064Zionsville, Indiana; Appleton, Wisconsin;\u200d Portland, Maine; and Franklin, Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p>On the other \u2062end of the\u2063 spectrum, the cities that ranked in the first percentile, \u200dindicating a \u200dlower standing, were East St. Louis, Illinois; Gadsden, Alabama; Starkville, Mississippi; Petersburg, Virginia; Gary, Indiana; Jacksonville,\u200d Arkansas; East Point, Georgia;\u200c Texarkana, Arkansas; Sumter, South Carolina;\u200c Florence, South Carolina; Isla Vista, California; West Memphis, Arkansas; Camden, New Jersey; Wasco, California; Albany,\u2062 Georgia; Pine Bluff, Arkansas; \u200dGreenville, Mississippi;\u2062 Alexandria, \u2063Louisiana; Monroe,\u2063 Louisiana; and \u200bBessemer, Alabama.<\/p>\n<p>WalletHub&#8217;s methodology involved comparing\u2064 1,321 cities across five key \u200cdimensions: affordability, economic health,\u2062 education and \u200chealth,\u2064 quality of life, and safety. The cities had\u2063 to\u2064 have a population between 25,000 and \u200d100,000 and were evaluated individually, not as\u200b part of a larger \u200cmetro area. \u200dThe rankings were based on 45 metrics,\u200b with different weights assigned to each metric based on its \u2063importance.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>&#8220;city?&#8221; Suburb<\/h3>\n<p>\u2014\u200c Matthew\u2064 Hall (@Matthew42894004) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Matthew42894004\/status\/1709723261376799145?\">October 5, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>WalletHub also provided rankings for specific areas within the communities.\u200c Southlake, Texas, topped the list for housing costs, while Beverly Hills ranked last. West Islip, New York, \u2063had the highest homeownership rates, \u2064while \u2062West Hollywood had the lowest. Key West, Florida, \u200bhad the most\u200d restaurants per capita, while Goodyear,\u200c Arizona, had the fewest.<\/p>\n<p>Victoria Morckel, a senior \u2064teaching specialist at Michigan State\u2063 University, highlighted the\u2063 advantages and disadvantages \u2064of living in small cities. She mentioned that the cost of\u200c living is generally\u200d lower in small cities, providing greater opportunities for homeownership and\u2062 discretionary income. Additionally,\u200d small cities \u2064tend to have less traffic congestion and \u200bcrowded public spaces, allowing for stronger relationships within \u2062the community. However, small\u200d cities may \u2063have fewer amenities, cultural attractions, entertainment options, and specialized services.<\/p>\n<p>Lists \u2063like these\u2062 are easily generated in today&#8217;s data-driven world.\u2062 Another website, SmartAsset.com, produced its own ranking of the most livable cities, with Washington state and Michigan taking the\u200d lead. The top 10 cities \u2064included Redmond, Washington; Sammamish, Washington; Novi, Michigan; Newton, Massachusetts;\u200b Arlington Heights, Illinois; Palo Alto, California; Kirkland, Washington; Farmington Hills, Michigan; Maple Grove, Minnesota; and \u200cQueen Creek, Arizona. On the \u200cother\u2064 hand, the \u2064bottom 10\u200b cities\u2064 were \u200bPasco, Washington; Gastonia, North Carolina; Longview, Texas; \u2062Victoria, Texas; San Marcos, Texas; Palm Coast, Florida; Greenville,\u2063 North \u2062Carolina; Albany,\u2063 Georgia; Merced, California; and Madera, California.
