Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) for speaker of \u2062the House in a vote of no-confidence taken on Oct. 20, shortly after he continued to \u2064lose ground on a third ballot \u200con the House\u2063 floor.<\/p>\n<p>The 112 to 86 vote came \u200camid \u200dintense\u200d frustration among House members over the \u2064events of the \u2062past three \u200dweeks.<\/p>\n<p>That began with the ousting of\u200b former\u200b Speaker\u2062 Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Oct. 3 by\u2064 a small group of Republicans aided by Democrats. We \u2062have baggage going \u2062back \u2062with Steve\u2062 Scalise\u2019s election, and Kevin\u2019s and he was a part of that. \u2063It&#8217;s just time to move on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite this most recent setback in electing a speaker, \u2062some members were hopeful of \u2064coming to an agreement soon.<\/p>\n<h2>Next Steps<\/h2>\n<p>Republicans will hold a\u200b candidate forum on Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. and vote on a nominee \u2062at 9 a.m. the \u2064following day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need space and time for candidates to \u2062talk\u200d to other \u2064members,\u201d\u2063 Speaker \u2063Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) \u2062told reporters after\u2064 the meeting. Noting that the \u200ccandidacies of both \u2064Mr. Scalise and \u2064Mr. Jordan had been undertaken with very little notice, Mr. McHenry said, \u201cSpace and time for a reset is an \u200cimportant thing for the Republican conference right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. McHenry said that while the House is not \u2064able to conduct business \u2062on the floor, committees\u2064 are still \u200dat work. \u201cOur \u2062committees are working \u2063with the administration. \u200bAnd the goal there is for our \u200dcommittees\u200c is to be ready to respond legislatively once we have a\u2062 duly\u200c elected speaker of\u2064 the\u2063 House,\u201d Mr. McHenry said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Minority Leader Hakeem\u2063 Jeffries \u2063(D-N.Y.) pleaded \u2063with Republicans \u200dto\u2064 reopen\u200d the House by joining Democrats \u2064in \u2063a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-speaker-vote-expected-tuesday-as-jordan-lobbies-gop-holdouts\/\" title=\"House speaker vote set for Tuesday as Jordan works to sway GOP holdouts.\">bipartisan governing coalition<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHouse \u200bDemocrats continue to make clear that we are willing to find a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/overtly-politicized-inside-manchins-filibuster-war-against-the-democrats\/\" title=\"\u2018Overtly Politicized\u2019: Inside Manchin\u2019s Filibuster War Against The Democrats\">bipartisan path forward<\/a> so we can reopen the House and\u200b solve problems for hard-working American taxpayers,&#8221; Mr. Jeffries said at a midday press conference.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s time for traditional Republicans to \u200bget\u200c off \u200dthe sidelines, \u2063get in the arena, and\u2062 realize \u200cthat the chaos dysfunction, and extremism has to end. And \u200bthe only way to \u200ddo it is to figure \u2062out how we can\u200b partner in a bipartisan fashion to\u200c reopen\u2062 the House and govern in a reasonable commonsense way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There seems to be\u2064 little appetite\u2063 for that among Republicans, however.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need to coalesce around a\u200c conservative\u200d candidate for speaker,&#8221; \u2062Rep. Marc Molinaro\u200b (R-N.Y.) told NTD, sister media \u2062to \u200dThe\u2064 Epoch Times. Any other \u200bactivities would not be productive in the long \u200dterm, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Members were eager to\u2063 see that the next speaker does not\u200c experience the problems encountered\u2064 by the previous speaker\u200d and \u200dcandidates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, we\u2063 don&#8217;t give enough time to make decisions,\u201d Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) said. \u201cI&#8217;ve been forceful to make sure that we\u200d actually do have 217 people [the number needed to elect] before\u200c we go\u200d to the floor. Otherwise, it\u2019s a disservice to the candidate and also a disservice \u2062to the \u200cpeople that are very frustrated because they will expect Congress to\u200b do more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Thomas \u200cMassie (R-Ky.)\u200d said he was unsure if any \u200dcandidate other \u2064than Mr. Jordan could wrangle \u2063the independent personalities on the conference\u2019s \u200cright flank.<\/p>\n<h2>Troubled Campaign<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Jordan\u2019s candidacy \u2062was troubled from\u2062 the start.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2064Trump-endorsed candidate won \u200dthe nomination on Oct. 13, defeating Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.) 124\u201388. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-oust-jordan-as-speaker-nominee-after-3-failed-votes\/\" title=\"House Republicans remove Jordan as Speaker nominee after 3 unsuccessful votes.\">confirming vote held immediately afterward<\/a>, Mr. Jordan still lacked 55 Republican votes.<\/p>\n<p>Although \u200cit is \u2063customary for conference members to support the majority candidate, that tradition was broken with the election of Mr. McCarthy \u200din January and with the nomination of\u2064 Mr. \u2064Scalise. Both were\u2063 opposed by Republican holdouts.<\/p>\n<p>In a \u200bfirst ballot\u2064 on Oct. 17, Mr. Jordan fell short of \u200ca majority as 20 Republicans voted \u200dfor other candidates. That\u200d number grew to 22 on\u2062 a \u2064second ballot \u2064cast the following\u200b day.<\/p>\n<p>On Oct. \u206219,\u2063 Mr. Jordan \u2062and \u2062others tried to convince fellow Republicans to temporarily empower\u200b Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) to conduct House\u2063 business.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Jordan said this was an\u2063 opportunity to \u201clower the temperature\u201d\u2064 surrounding the speakership race while allowing \u2062the House to reopen.<\/p>\n<p>While\u200b many members\u200b supported the \u2062move, others\u2062 adamantly \u2064opposed it during a tense Republican conference meeting on Oct. 19. \u200bNo action\u2063 was taken, effectively killing the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Jordan\u200c met with holdouts \u200cthat\u200b evening, attempting \u2064to \u2062win supporters, then held a \u200cpress \u2064conference \u2062the following morning\u2062 to ask Republicans to join him and reopen the House quickly.<\/p>\n<p>On\u2063 a third \u2063ballot, conducted on\u2064 Oct. 20, three more Republicans swung\u200b away from Mr. Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>Despite that resistance, Mr. Jordan enjoyed \u200cstrong support from a number of members. In \u200can effort to push his election over the top, the eight Republicans who\u200c had voted \u200bto oust Mr. McCarthy attempted to reconcile with angry conference\u200d members.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200c group issued a statement volunteering themselves\u200b for censure or expulsion from the conference if that would placate holdouts who believed\u200c Mr. Jordan was the\u200c beneficiary of their action.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are willing to accept \u2062censure sanction, suspension, or removal from\u2064 the Republican\u200d conference,&#8221; said \u2063Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) who introduced the \u200bmotion to\u2063 remove Mr. McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We, of course, \u2064will remain Republicans, we will continue to vote \u2064with Republicans on Republican principles. But\u200b if what these \u200choldouts\u200d need is a \u200bpound of our \u2064flesh, we&#8217;re \u2063willing to give \u2062it,&#8221; the Florida congressman said after the \u200dthird \u2063ballot.<\/p>\n<p>However, the majority had apparently concluded that Mr. Jordan had no pathway \u200cto victory.<\/p>\n<div><em>Jackson Richman, Joseph Lord, Emel Akan, Ryusuke\u2063 Abe, and NTD&#8217;s Melina Wisecup contributed\u2062 to this report.<\/em><\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> What led to the \u2062revocation of the nomination of the candidate on\u2062 the third \u200dballot?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Ballot\u200d, and then to \u200c26 on the\u202fthird\u202fballot \u200c\u200con Oct.\u200a20,\u200a\u200cwhich ultimately led to his nomination \u200bbeing revoked.<\/p>\n<p>The intense frustration among House members over these events is evident. \u2062The ousting of former\u200d Speaker Kevin McCarthy \u2063by a\u2063 small group of Republicans aided by \u200dDemocrats set the stage for the subsequent nomination of Majority Leader Steve Scalise. However, Scalise&#8217;s nomination\u200b was derailed\u2063 by a small group of Jordan supporters who refused to \u200celect him. This series of events created a sense\u2062 of \u200banimosity and perceived \u200bbaggage associated with both McCarthy and Scalise.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, the no-confidence vote\u200b against Rep.
