Decades of the \u2063same approach have shown that security \u2062for peace leads to neither\u2062 security, nor \u200cto\u2064 peace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact is, blind support for one side is destructive in \u2064the long term to the \u200binterests of\u2062 the people on both sides.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Expecting to be ostracized by colleagues\u200c for\u200b his dissent, Paul said\u2064 many of them were \u200dcontacting\u200c him to \u2063express their agreement, HuffPost \u200creported.<\/p>\n<p>The State Department \u200dhas a \u200d\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fam.state.gov\/fam\/02fam\/02fam0070.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dissent channel<\/a>\u201d \u2062that allows private\u2063 divergence from announced policy, an outlet dating back to the Vietnam War days. The department\u2019s response to Paul\u2019s resignation made\u200b reference to that fact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the strengths of this department\u2062 is that we do \u2062have people\u200c with different opinions,\u201d State \u200dDepartment spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement, according to HuffPost.\u2063 \u201cWe \u2064encourage them to make \u200btheir opinions known.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecretary \u200c [of State Antony] Blinken \u200bhas spoken to this on \u2062a number of occasions, when he\u2019s said that he welcomes\u2063 people exercising the dissent channel,\u201d\u200c Miller \u2064said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe finds\u200d it useful to get\u2062 conflicting voices that may \u200ddiffer \u200cfrom\u200d his opinion. He takes it seriously, \u2062and it causes him to \u200dreflect on his own\u200b thinking in terms of\u2062 policymaking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both President Joe Biden \u200band <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/zg-blinken-us-will-judge-next-israeli-government-on-policies-not-personalities-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blinken<\/a> have \u200bunderscored the right of Israel to defend itself as long \u2064as it stays\u2062 within the confines\u200c of international law.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday, the State Department\u2019s \u200dmission to the United \u2062Nations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/un-us-veto-israel-hamas-resolution_n_653045f3e4b00565b622aa20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vetoed a U.N. resolution<\/a> condemning all violence against civilians and offering humanitarian\u200c aid to\u200b Gaza; the\u2064 resolution included an admonition against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/israel-releases-audio-hamas-terrorists-realizing-gaza-hospital-hit-friendly-fire-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Ambassador\u200d Linda\u2062 Thomas-Greenfield said the effort was premature and that diplomatic efforts needed to play out. She was\u2063 also critical \u2064of the fact the resolution did not underscore\u200b the right of Israel to\u200c self-defense.<\/p>\n<p>While \u201cdiversity is \u2062our strength\u201d is a\u200d mantra for many leftists, diverse thoughts are creating turmoil in the State Department where many occupants\u2063 of government positions are\u2064 left-leaning.<\/p>\n<p>Israel is always a problem for them: They know there needs to be \u2062a\u200c careful \u2064balance of what might be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/harvard-students-anti-israel-open-letter-backfires-horribly-employer-responds-email\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anti-Zionist sentiments<\/a> against charges of anti-Semitism.<\/p>\n<p>Biden \u2064and Blinken\u2019s\u200c voiced support for Israel is causing stress,\u2062 and language\u2064 on \u2064the dissent channel is severe, according to HuffPost.<\/p>\n<p>Paul has said concern\u2064 about free expression on\u2063 the channel arose after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/house-republicans-consider-changing-rules-speaker-vote-bid-avoid-chaos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Republicans<\/a> sought access\u200b to it following\u200c the Biden administration\u2019s abandonment of \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/video-gop-rep-calls-blinken-liar-face-tense-hearing-bidens-afghanistan-debacle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Afghanistan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>HuffPost also \u200dreported a \u201cculture of silence\u201d at the\u2062 State Department regarding expression of opinions about Israel and\u200d the surrounding \u2064region, with\u2063 one even voicing \u201cshame\u201d for currently working for\u200c the U.S. \u2064government.<\/p>\n<p>Following his \u200breturn from the Middle East, Blinken called\u2064 for State Department staffers \u201cto sustain and expand the space for debate and dissent that makes our\u200b policies and our institution better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For\u200d his part, \u2063Paul\u200d told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/10\/19\/politics\/state-department-official-resigns-israel-gaza\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> he does not\u2063 believe there is \u201cspace for debate \u2064on the issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Legal frameworks designed to keep \u200dAmerican weapons\u200b out of the \u2064hands of those violating \u2062human \u200drights are failing, \u200bhe said \u2064in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/10\/19\/us\/state-department-official-resigns-israel-arms.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York\u2063 Times<\/a> \u2064 interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the past, there has been effective or at least vocal pushback from \u200cthose within the State Department responsible for human rights to look at\u2064 some of these issues and\u200d not rush forward,\u201d Paul told CNN.<\/p>\n<p>That\u200d usually includes Congress, he said, but congressional opposition\u200b is lacking.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div class=\"author_subscription_pitch\">.author_subscription_pitch p{margin:5px;}<\/p>\n<p><em><b>A Note \u200bfrom Our Staff:<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Did you know that\u2063 90 percent of advertisers will have nothing\u200d to do with The Western Journal?
