These self-proclaimed champions of \u201cracial justice\u201d seem to \u2062be hoping for another incident like the George Floyd case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSPLC is deeply saddened \u2063by the tragic loss of Leonard Cure in \u200cCamden County, GA. We urgently call for a transformation in policing that honors every individual\u2019s rights. The \u2063ongoing anti-Blackness in policing must end. Every leader must act\u200c for justice and \u2062accountability,\u201d the \u200bSPLC tweeted on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">SPLC is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Leonard\u200c Cure in Camden County,\u2064 GA. Every leader \u2062must \u2062act for justice and accountability. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lNREN79EW9\">pic.twitter.com\/lNREN79EW9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u200d Southern Poverty Law Center (@splcenter) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/splcenter\/status\/1714646960005632186?\">October 18, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, the \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/splc-claims-leonard-cure-died-due-to-anti-blackness-in-policing-but-the-video-tells-a-very-different-story\/\" title=\"SPLC alleges Leonard Cure's death resulted from 'anti-Blackness in policing,' but video contradicts their claim.\">graphic car-cam footage<\/a> of the \u200dfatal\u2063 encounter revealed that race played no role in the\u200d traffic stop. In fact, it showed that the sheriff\u2019s deputy could not have known Cure\u2019s skin color \u200cbefore pulling him over.<\/p>\n<p>The car cam footage showed the deputy\u2019s car \u2062driving at a moderate speed in the right lane of northbound I-95. Then, 15 seconds into the video, Cure\u2019s truck sped past in the left lane. \u200dThe deputy changed lanes and pursued him.<\/p>\n<p>It took Cure some\u200c time to navigate through traffic and pull \u2064over \u2064safely, but he\u2064 eventually did.<\/p>\n<p>The deputy repeatedly ordered Cure to exit his vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStep\u200d out. Step out! Get out! Get\u2062 out! Put your \u2063hands back here,\u201d the deputy \u200bsaid, pointing to the back of the truck.<\/p>\n<p>Cure got out of the truck but did \u2062not comply with the deputy\u2019s commands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI ain\u2019t doin\u2019 s***,\u201d\u2064 he said,\u2063 setting the tone for the entire encounter.<\/p>\n<p>At that point, Cure\u2019s behavior became peculiar. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/arrest-made-killing-sheriffs-deputy-tip-led-police-right-suspect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deputy<\/a> attempted to grab Cure, but Cure\u200d resisted and stood at attention like a soldier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy name is Yah-wee,\u201d\u200d Cure seemed\u2062 to say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI \u2062don\u2019t care. Step to the rear of this vehicle,\u201d the deputy replied.<\/p>\n<p>After questioning the deputy\u2019s authority, Cure reluctantly complied. The deputy threatened to use a taser.<\/p>\n<p>Cure\u200d finally placed both hands on the back of the truck, but the deputy radioed \u200ddispatch about \u2063a \u201cnon-compliant\u201d individual.<\/p>\n<p>Moments later, Cure \u200casked if he\u2062 had a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/arrest-warrant-issued-nfl-pro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warrant<\/a>. The deputy once again threatened to use a taser unless Cure put\u200c his hands behind his back. Cure questioned why.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCause you are under arrest for speeding and reckless driving,\u201d the deputy replied.<\/p>\n<p>Cure argued that \u200dno\u2064 one was\u200c hurt, but the deputy informed him \u2064that he had been driving at 100 miles per hour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOK, so that\u2019s\u2062 a speeding\u2064 ticket, right?\u201d Cure \u200dresponded. The deputy informed him that in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/georgia-man-receives-1-4m-speeding-ticket-wasnt-typo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Georgia<\/a>, such actions constitute a criminal offense.<\/p>\n<p>Then came\u200d the trigger for the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not going to jail,\u201d Cure declared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, you are \u200dgoing to\u200b jail,\u201d the deputy replied.<\/p>\n<p>Cure appeared to gesture towards the sky. When the deputy\u2062 approached and demanded once again that Cure put his hands behind his back,\u200d Cure made several attempts\u200c to grab the deputy\u2019s taser. And so, the fight began.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/sheriffs-deputy-dead-ambush-video-moments-now-critical-clue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deputy<\/a> \u2064 tried to put Cure in a chokehold,\u200c but Cure gained the upper hand and struck the deputy in the face.<\/p>\n<p>Bending the deputy\u2019s neck and back, Cure taunted him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, b****. Yeah, \u2064b****,\u201d Cure said twice.<\/p>\n<p>At that point, the\u200d deputy managed to retrieve his gun and\u2062 fired a shot into Cure\u2019s body. Cure fell to\u2063 the ground.<\/p>\n<p>The video continued for another eight minutes. A Brinks truck arrived, and the driver assisted the deputy by keeping\u2064 a gun aimed at the struggling Cure.<\/p>\n<p>Exhausted, the deputy called for backup, repeatedly \u200bshouting \u201cstay down!\u201d and at one point collapsing onto the front of\u2062 his vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Less\u200b than two minutes later, other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-overdose-reversing-drug-administered-puppy-possible-fentanyl-exposure-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">officers<\/a> \u2062 arrived. The deputy then knelt down next to Cure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey. You look at me. You\u2062 ain\u2019t goin\u2019 no d*** where,\u201d the deputy said to the fatally wounded man.<\/p>\n<p>As the other officers attended to Cure, the deputy walked away \u200bwith a look \u200dof apparent shock and rested his head on the hood of his car.<\/p>\n<p>Less \u2064than a minute later, an officer attempted to revive Cure&#8217;s heart. This continued for several minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Towards the end of the video, the deputy could be heard weeping and hyperventilating \u200das his fellow officers tried to \u200cconsole him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WARNING: The\u200b following videos contain \u200bextremely graphic violence\u200c that some may find offensive. Viewer discretion\u2062 is advised.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The deputy\u2019s body cam provided another perspective of the incident.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Every aspect of this story is deeply tragic and heartbreaking for all involved.<\/p>\n<p>Cure\u2019s tragic past, for instance, includes a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/man-walks-free-24-years-wrongful-conviction-key-witness-lied-stand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrongful conviction<\/a> and lengthy imprisonment in Florida. Cure\u2019s \u200dactions, his resistance to the deputy\u2019s commands, and his attempt \u200bto\u2063 grab \u200bthe deputy\u2019s taser all contributed\u200c to the escalation\u200b of the situation.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, \u2064despite the undeniable \u2062evidence, the\u2062 SPLC continues \u200dto push its false narrative of\u2064 \u201canti-Blackness in policing.\u201d This deliberate manipulation of the facts is \u200dnot only \u2062disrespectful \u2064to Cure\u2019s \u2062memory, but it also undermines the legitimacy of the SPLC \u200bas \u200ba credible advocate for racial justice.<\/p>\n<p>The SPLC\u2019s rush to exploit this tragedy for their own divisive agenda is a perfect example of how organizations like\u200b them perpetuate hatred and division in our society. \u2063By jumping to conclusions and painting every interaction between law enforcement and minority individuals as racially motivated, the SPLC fails to address the root causes of crime and the complex issues surrounding policing.<\/p>\n<p>Tragedies like Cure\u2019s death should not be exploited to fuel division and promote an anti-police agenda. Instead, we should \u200bbe working \u200ctowards constructive\u2064 dialogue and solutions that promote unity and mutual understanding. \u2062The \u2062SPLC\u2019s false narrative\u2063 only serves to \u200bfurther\u2062 polarize our society and hinder\u2062 progress.<\/p>\n<p>It is time\u2063 to reject the SPLC\u2019s dishonesty and demand a more nuanced and informed discussion on \u200bthe real issues at hand.
