That anyone might die \u200dbecause of it \u200dis neither here nor \u200cthere.<\/p>\n<p>The Times must have decided it still has some dignity \u2062it would like to\u200d shed, so\u2063 the paper ran the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/10\/19\/opinion\/trump-gag-order-violence.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">piece<\/a> \u2064by Jeffrey Toobin that all but encouraged some lunatic to shoot one of the judges overseeing Trump\u2019s criminal cases. \u201cThe day is fast approaching when someone picks \u2064up a gun \u2064or builds a \u2064bomb \u2062and then seeks \u2062to follow through on Mr. Trump\u2019s words,\u201d wrote Toobin under the discreet headline, \u200c\u201cDonald Trump is \u200bgoing to\u200b get someone killed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And how giddy Toobin\u200b will \u2062be should \u200cthat day come. It will make for a head \u2062rush that rivals any\u2063 one\u200d of \u200chis slippery <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/06\/10\/after-pleasuring-himself-during-a-zoom-meeting-on-the-2020-election-jeffrey-toobin-is-back-on-the-air-at-cnn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">work-from-home\u200d Zoom calls<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cFollow \u200bthrough on\u2062 Trump\u2019s words,\u201d you say?! Sounds terrible! What was it\u2064 that he said?!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the op-ed, Toobin\u2064 did what all \u200bthe dishonest journalists (excuse the redundancy) have been \u2062doing since 2015: He lied about a bunch of things that \u2062are\u200c easily\u200c verifiable. Namely, \u2062things Trump said in public.<\/p>\n<p>Look at this paragraph:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Mr. Trump has always \u200cemployed invective as a political tool, but\u2063 as his days of courtroom reckoning \u200bhave arrived, his rhetoric has grown more menacing. He\u2019s suggested that Gen. \u2064Mark Milley, the former chairman of \u200cthe Joint Chiefs \u200cof Staff,\u200d could have been\u2062 executed; that shoplifters should be shot; that the judge\u2019s\u200d clerk \u2062in the civil case against him is Sen. Chuck Schumer\u2019s girlfriend; and\u200c that \u201cyou\u2063 ought to go\u200c after\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nevada-trump-campaign-says-clark-county-registrar-joe-gloria-hiding-from-subpoena-service\/\" title=\"Nevada: Trump Campaign Says Clark County Registrar Joe Gloria Hiding From Subpoena Service\">state attorney general<\/a> who\u200b is prosecuting him. In language evoking Nazi eugenics, he \u200bhas accused immigrants of \u201cpoisoning the blood of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The only one \u200dof these references I didn\u2019t know about, and therefore wasn\u2019t sure of (I like to check things before being sure, almost like a real journalist), \u2062was the \u201cYou ought to go after\u201d quote.<\/p>\n<p>Toobin\u2019s suggestion is that\u2063 the\u2064 former president was egging his supporters to either harass or even\u200c assault one of the 50\u200d million Democrat prosecutors charging him with\u200d crimes.\u2064 Naturally, that\u2019s not what happened.<\/p>\n<p>What happened is\u2062 that ahead of \u2064a legal hearing in New York earlier this \u2064month, Trump approached a gathering of cameras and reporters inside the courthouse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?530882-1\/president-trump-remarks-civil-fraud-trial-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to make\u200b some comments<\/a>. \u200cHe \u200dcomplained about the charges and said the prosecutor\u200c was\u2064 unfair. \u201cThis \u2064is a disgrace,\u201d \u200che said. \u201cAnd you ought to \u200dgo after this attorney general because she\u2019s \u200bturning off \u2062everybody \u200cfrom coming in. You \u2062know,\u2062 I\u2062 don\u2019t \u200bknow\u2014 if\u200c you take a\u2062 look at the outflow of business. Businesses are fleeing New \u2063York because of horrible, \u2062horrible attorneys \u2063general and judges like we have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In \u200cshort, Trump told reporters to scrutinize the prosecutor on his case, which\u2062 involves a ridiculous set of victimless\u200c fraud\u200c allegations. (Trump might have overstated\u2062 the\u2063 value \u2064of his\u2064 assets\u2062 to get bigger loans with lower interest rates. I\u2019m sure the creditors\u2062 will never have another peaceful night\u2019s sleep.)<\/p>\n<p>That, according to <s>Lubin\u2019<\/s> \u200dToobin, is \u200djust the\u2063 kind of thing some\u200c nut needs\u200b to hear before committing \u200bmurder.\u200b And he would \u2063surely lament \u200dthe tragedy while closely monitoring royalties for the new book \u200che\u2019s promoting on \u201cright-wing extremism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When the media hyped \u200cup the since \u200bproven\u200d false claim \u200dthat Israel had blown up \u2064a hospital in Gaza, it was because they <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/10\/12\/leftists-excuse-hamas-for-the-same-reasons-they-support-black-lives-matter-defund-the-police-and-the-rest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wanted it to be true<\/a>. He was\u200d asked about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cuomo-must-resign-if-cover-up-of-nursing-home-deaths-proven-stefanik\/\" title=\"Cuomo Must Resign If \u2018Cover-Up\u2019 of Nursing Home Deaths Proven: Stefanik\">state attorney general&#8217;<\/a>s investigation and whether he believed \u200bit\u200c was politically motivated. Trump&#8217;s response was, &#8220;You ought\u200b to look into what they&#8217;re doing. Look into\u2062 the corruption.\u2063 And \u200cby the\u2062 way, I hope you do\u200d a great job. \u2064I hope you look at the corruption\u2062 down in Washington because it&#8217;s tremendous corruption. You should \u2064really look at\u2063 it.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Now, anyone with a basic understanding of language and context can see that this statement does not \u2063in any \u2063way encourage\u200c violence or intimidation.\u200c Trump simply expressed his hope for a \u200bthorough investigation \u2062into alleged corruption, both at\u2063 the state level and \u2062in Washington.\u200b To claim \u2064that he was inciting his supporters \u2063to \u200dharm\u200b or harass prosecutors is a blatant \u2062misrepresentation of his words.<\/p>\n<p>But Toobin and his ilk \u2062have shown time and again that they have no interest in\u200c honest reporting or objective analysis. They are more than willing \u2062to\u200c twist and distort the \u2064truth \u200bto \u2064fit their narratives \u2063and fuel their own agenda.\u2063 And sadly,\u2063 they are not alone.<\/p>\n<p>The media\u200d as a whole has become a \u2064cesspool of bias and sensationalism. Innocent people lost their lives, \u2062all because \u200dthe\u200c media \u2063was\u200d more interested in pushing a\u200b narrative than in fact-checking and reporting the truth.<\/p>\n<p>So, what can \u200bbe done? \u2064It&#8217;s clear that \u2064the media needs to\u200d be held accountable \u2063for their\u200b actions. They cannot continue to operate\u200b without consequences for their\u200c lies\u2062 and distortions. Journalists should be held to a higher standard of ethics and \u2064integrity. They should \u200dbe required to verify \u200dtheir sources, fact-check their stories, \u2062and present\u2063 objective and unbiased reporting.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, consumers of news \u2062need\u2064 to be vigilant and discerning. We must not blindly accept everything we read or hear in the media. We need to actively \u2062seek out \u2064multiple\u200b perspectives, fact-check information, and \u200bhold the media accountable when they fail to uphold \u200ctheir journalistic\u2062 responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>The media has a crucial role in our\u200d society, \u200bbut\u200d they must remember that with great power comes great responsibility. They have the\u200b power to \u2062shape public opinion \u200cand \u200dinfluence the course of events. It&#8217;s time \u2064for them to\u2062 take\u2063 that responsibility seriously \u2063and prioritize truth, integrity, and accountability.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200bconclusion, the media&#8217;s love\u2063 for violence and their\u200c willingness to distort the truth \u200cfor \u2063their own \u200bagenda is\u2064 deeply concerning. \u200dIt undermines\u200b the foundations of \u200da democratic \u2063society\u200b and fuels \u2062division and \u200dhatred.
