The\u2062 tale incited worldwide condemnation and recrimination. But\u2064 it wasn&#8217;t true. Israel did not hit the hospital. The Islamic Jihad did. Hundreds of \u200cpeople did not die. The missile\u200b landed in\u2064 a parking lot. It was Hamas disinformation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The media&#8217;s disastrous\u200d failure on the Gaza hospital bombing story\u200b is one of the most vivid \u2064and instructive\u200b examples of the structural and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-gaza-hospital-fiasco-offers-a-vivid-example-of-journalisms-rot\/\" title=\"The Gaza Hospital Fiasco: A Clear Case of Journalism's Decay.\">inherent problems plaguing contemporary journalism<\/a>. It mirrors many other fiascos of the past decade.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1513126060\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8f6e62c08b3be3c893791db2b8863568 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8f6e62c08b3be3c893791db2b8863568\"><\/div>\n<p>It is clear at this\u2062 point \u200dthat journalism schools are producing closed-minded, credulous ideologues who will believe anything that comports with their worldview. It&#8217;s either that, or we have a\u200c bunch of closed-minded ideologues who are willing accomplices in spreading propaganda. Functionally speaking, it doesn&#8217;t really matter. In \u2064either case, their sympathies lie with \u200cHamas.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to outlets like The\u2062 New York Times, we clearly have propagandists\u2064 at work. The Times\u2063 was one of the first \u200cto embrace the Hamas lie. It has spent decades spreading <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/why-does-the-new-york-times-incessantly-attack-israel\/\">similar disinformation<\/a>. The paper&#8217;s editorial board and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/10\/14\/opinion\/palestinian-ethical-resistance-answers-grief-and-rage.html\">op-ed pages<\/a> are teeming with Hamas apologists \u2014 as are its news pages.<\/p>\n<p>Even as Hamas&#8217;s propaganda was being exposed, the Times moved forward with the \u2062story without any genuine substantiation. Since the newspaper had done \u2063absolutely no work in verifying these serious claims, it was left without facts or art. So editors simply <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JerylBier\/status\/1714626674715722119?s=20\">put a picture<\/a> of a bombed-out building (not the\u200b hospital) on its front page, strongly\u200c insinuating that Israel was \u2063responsible for \u200dthe tragedy (that wasn&#8217;t.)<\/p>\n<p>How can that be\u200b seen as anything but malicious?<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e2f668378f995443e1c2f44203b4f818 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e2f668378f995443e1c2f44203b4f818\"><\/div>\n<p>Nate Silver <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/natesilver538\/status\/1714615279848726993\">says<\/a> he&#8217;s more sympathetic to media \u200cmistakes \u2014 and, \u2064for the sake of arguments, let&#8217;s concede\u2063 they are mistakes\u2014 that are made as events are unfolding\u2064 in real time. The fog of war, and all that. But that&#8217;s exactly when we need journalists to\u200b sift through information and synthesize\u200c reliable \u200daccounts.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, any person \u200bwho&#8217;s spent more than ten minutes on the Israeli-Palestinian situation \u2014 to say nothing of those who are paid to cover the conflict \u2014 knows full\u2063 well that both Hamas and the PLO\u200b are constantly lying about alleged Israeli atrocities and casualties. Anyone who has even a\u200c rudimentary understanding of this situation knows that 30-40 percent of rockets that emanate from Gaza land in Gaza. And they know \u200dthat Hamas not only operates among civilians to use them as human shields \u2014 often in \u200chospitals \u2014 but that it is\u2064 keen on\u2063 seeing Arab civilian deaths to gun up sympathy and sacrifice martyrs.<\/p>\n<p>If \u2062you&#8217;re gullible enough to believe Hamas&#8217;s &#8220;Health Ministry,&#8221;\u200d you need to be reassigned to a job that better\u200b aligns with your skill set. Something far away from reporting. Maybe become a journalism professor.<\/p>\n<p>To\u200c put this in perspective, it takes a modern nation like Israel days to come up with specific\u2064 casualty numbers \u2014 maybe longer when babies \u200bare torn apart by bullets \u2062and the elderly are burned alive \u2014 but when the terror group Hamas \u2064tells the media that 500 died within minutes after a bomb \u200cgoes off in a hospital and the Times et al run with it. Smaller outlets follow. Self-professed &#8220;disinformation&#8221; beat reporters and repeat it to their followers. Hamas apologists in Congress spread the blood libel.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-99760321c3fdb979cc1b3c4370225f26 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-99760321c3fdb979cc1b3c4370225f26\"><\/div>\n<p>Most outlets refuse to\u200d correct the mistake. When the media irresponsibly \u2014 or purposely\u200c \u2014 run Hamas propaganda, Israel is\u2064 put on the defensive and forced to debunk unsubstantiated events. This immediately spurs conspiracy theories \u200camong the\u2064 usual suspects: fringe YouTubers and Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KarenAttiah\/status\/1714433962813075492\">columnists<\/a>. The\u2063 story\u2063 then usually deteriorates into an Israelis say\/Palestinians say situation as if both are equally reliable.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the\u200b AP <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-palestinians-gaza-hamas-war-biden-rafah-e062825a375d9eb62e95509cab95b80c\">reports<\/a> that &#8220;After blast\u200b kills hundreds \u2062at Gaza \u2063hospital, Hamas and Israel trade\u2063 blame as rage spreads in region.&#8221; Technically true, yet incredibly\u2063 misleading. Indeed, the AP gives equal weight to the side that <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Israel\/status\/1714593881801601043?s=20\">offers<\/a> video, audio, and pictures\u2063 that debunk the \u2064Hamas claim&#8230; and the other\u2063 side, the \u2063one that \u2063uses children as human children and murders babies and kidnaps women. Then again, the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2021\/05\/associated-press-hamas-propagandists\/\">shared<\/a> an office tower with Hamas intelligence for years. The \u200coutlet claims it did not know. Which means its reporters are either liars or preternaturally clueless. Again, functionally the same.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s <strong>a lot<\/strong> to hate about social media&#8217;s influence on society, but if \u200cthis were 1995, those Hamas lies would have led \u2064the news on all three major networks and been front-page\u2062 news on every major paper. It would have \u2063taken months, if we were lucky, to debunk the story.\u200b And this goes for thousands of other stories that have been debunked over the\u2064 past couple of decades \u2014 beginning, most famously, with Dan \u2063Rather&#8217;s concocted \u200dhit on George W Bush.<\/p>\n<p>Many of these same people brought you the\u200b Russia collusion\u2064 hysteria and Kavanaugh rape hysteria and a slew of other \u200dhoaxes. These are the people \u200bwho became mouthpieces of the state when Covid broke out and \u2064mouthpieces for the Obama administration \u2063when it was campaigning for the Iran Deal.<\/p>\n<p>Many of these same people are the would-be censors who lament the \u200dnefarious misinformation that festers and spreads on social media. There have always been conspiratorial people and rumors and\u2063 disinformation. The real problem today is that we\u200d can no longer trust establishment media to \u2064debunk rumors and offer facts.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, considering their \u2063reach and role, establishment media are often the\u200c biggest disseminators \u2062of disinformation.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> What steps can journalists\u200d take to approach the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with \u200cimpartiality and a\u200c commitment to uncovering the truth, rather than perpetuating biases?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Israel \u2063denies accountability.&#8221; This framing implies that there is a legitimate debate over who is responsible for the deaths, when in reality, it is clear that Hamas is\u200b to blame for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/florida-democrats-push-back-on-false-claims-from-media-about-desantis-response-to-building-collapse\/\" title=\"Florida Democrats Push Back On False Claims From Media About DeSantis Response To Building Collapse\">spreading false information<\/a> and inciting\u2062 violence.<\/p>\n<p>This incident highlights a disturbing trend in modern journalism,\u200b where \u2062the pursuit of truth and accuracy takes a backseat to pushing a particular narrative.\u2062 Instead\u2062 of \u2063critically\u200b examining the claims made by Hamas, many media outlets simply regurgitated their propaganda without conducting any independent verification or fact-checking. This not only undermines the credibility of the media, but\u200b also contributes to the perpetuation of misinformation and disinformation.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, it is evident that there is a\u200d biased agenda at play when it comes to reporting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. For years, The New York Times and other mainstream media outlets have displayed a clear bias against Israel, consistently spreading false narratives and promoting the views of\u200c Hamas \u2063apologists. This biased reporting not only misleads the public, but also \u2063contributes to the demonization of Israel and the legitimization of Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>It is crucial that journalists approach the\u200b Israeli-Palestinian conflict with impartiality and a commitment to uncovering the\u200d truth.
