The GOP nominee, Jordan (R-Ohio), failed to receive the 217 \u2062votes needed to win the speakership.<\/p>\n<p>199 Republicans voted for Jordan this round. A few stray GOP members voted for Representative Steve\u2062 Scalise (R-La.), former Speaker of the House \u200cKevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and other members of the Republican Party.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats\u2063 stayed united in voting for Representative Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.). \u200cHe received 212 votes. Jeffries is currently the Minority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>There were many notable flips this round. Representative Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.) voted \u200bfor\u2063 Jordan on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/newsroom\/rep-jordan-fails-to-win-speakership-receives-under-217-votes\/\">Tuesday<\/a>, but flipped his vote to Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) this \u200dround of voting. Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) changed his Tuesday vote for Jordan to \u200bScalise. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks\u00a0(R-Calif.) flipped her vote from Jordan to Representative Kay Granger\u2062 (R-Texas).<\/p>\n<p>Jordan picked up a vote this round from Representative Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.), who had previously voted for\u200c McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday\u2019s vote, 22 Republicans voted \u2062against Jordan.
