Unless we enshrine a\u200c Right to Safety in the Constitution,\u200d we are\u200b at the mercy\u2063 of ideologues like Judge Benitez.\u2062 All of our gun safety laws \u200cthat are proven to save lives are at risk. It\u200c doesn\u2019t matter what laws we pass. It doesn\u2019t matter what the voters decide. Concealed carry. Banning weapons of war. Reasonable waiting periods. Background checks. The idealogues are coming for all of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is exactly why I\u2019ve called for a Constitutional amendment, and this is why I\u2019ll keep fighting to defend \u2063our right to protect ourselves from gun violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2023\/09\/22\/benitez-duncan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">That\u2063 was<\/a> Gov. Gavin Newsom of California, possibly the next president of this country, on Sept. 22.\u200c Mr. Newsom was criticizing Judge \u200dRoger\u200b Benitez\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/california-gun-laws-highcapacity-magazines-ban-5e16caf66a17964b292d647e432ca6d8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ruling<\/a> that day striking down\u2064 California\u2019s ban on magazines holding more than 10 rounds.\u200b On Oct. 10, Mr. Newsom got\u2064 his wish as an 11-member panel of\u200d the U.S. 9th Circuit Court \u2062of Appeal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2023-10-11\/9th-circuit-stays-ruling-overturning-california-ban-on-high-capacity-ammunition-magazines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ruled<\/a> to \u2064suspend\u2063 the decision. It probably will be decided in the U.S. Supreme Court.\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>  That panel ruling also\u200d was delusional. It came just three days \u2064after \u2064the Hamas terrorist group attacked Israel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/world\/2023\/10\/11\/israel-war-hamas-gaza-live-updates\/71139748007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">massacring<\/a> at\u2064 least 1,200\u200c people, including more than 22 Americans, mostly unarmed civilians. I\u2019m sure you\u2019ve read \u2062and seen a lot about the horror.\n<\/div>\n<p>Here\u2019s something maybe you didn\u2019t hear about. The poor Israeli civilian victims\u2062 sure could have used\u2063 some \u201cweapons \u2063of war,\u201d holding 30-round magazines, to defend \u2063themselves against Hamas. But Israel has strict, Newsom-style gun control. The people \u200cwere unarmed while being massacred, as they awaited rescue by the Israel Defense Forces.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunpolicy.org\/firearms\/region\/israel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According<\/a> \u200d to GunPolicy.org, \u201cIn Israel, the right to private gun ownership\u200c is not\u200b guaranteed by law.\u201d\u2064 That is, it \u2064has no \u200dSecond Amendment right \u201cto\u200d keep and bear\u2063 arms.\u201d Rather it has a version of Mr. Newsom\u2019s proposed 28th \u200bAmendment strictly controlling\u200c who can\u200b have\u200c a gun.\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-figure\">\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>A member\u2064 of the public\u2062 receives weapons training from a tutor at a shooting range in Efrat,\u2064 Israel, on Oct. 15, 2023. (Leon Neal\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>  Also, \u201cIn\u200b Israel, only \u200clicensed gun owners may lawfully\u2064 acquire, possess or \u2064transfer a firearm or ammunition.\u201d (This excellent \u200csite includes many citations to its reporting.) That contrasts with America, in which\u200d last year\u2019s\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/21pdf\/20-843_7j80.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bruen<\/a> Supreme Court Decision upheld the right to carry a weapon, excepting only reasonable restrictions, such as not carrying \u2064a gun into a government building.\n<\/div>\n<h2>Who Is the Militia?<\/h2>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>  America is the\u2062 most heavily armed country in the world, with an estimated 466 million owned, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/americangunfacts.com\/gun-ownership-statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Gun Facts<\/a>. About 46 percent\u200c of\u2064 households own a gun. That\u2019s a massive \u200ddeterrent to potential\u2063 criminals\u2014and to terrorists \u200bhunting for easy prey. A Hamas-like attack on an American neighborhood would bring out dozens of men, and\u2064 many women, wielding the \u201cweapons of war\u201d Mr. Newsom wants\u2064 to make it harder to obtain.\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>  The U.S. Census Bureau \u200dalso <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/topics\/1279\/veterans\/#topicOverview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">estimates<\/a> there\u2063 are about 16.5 million military\u200b veterans, including yours truly, all of them trained on M-16s or similar rifles, which are related \u2062to\u2064 the AR-15 so often demonized by Mr. Newsom and other gun-controllers.\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>  Gun-controllers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/frontline\/article\/how-conservatives-reinvented-the-second-amendment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">insist<\/a> the \u201cmilitia\u201d mentioned in the Second Amendment \u200donly means \u200bthe official military. Actually,\u200c it\u2019s everybody, as the Supreme Court held in the 2008 <a href=\"https:\/\/supreme.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/us\/554\/570\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heller<\/a> case.\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>  It also isn\u2019t well known, but the official U.S. militia \u2063is not only made up of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-sen-ron-johnson-torches-defense-secretary-austin-for-discharging-service-members-for-disobeying-bidens-vaccine-mandate\/\" title=\"Exclusive -- Sen. Ron Johnson Torches Defense Secretary Austin for Discharging Service Members for Disobeying Biden's Vaccine Mandate\">active-duty military personnel<\/a>, inactive reservists, and the national guard. According to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/10\/246\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10 U.S. Code \u00a7 246<\/a> &#8211; Militia: \u2064composition and classes,\u201d \u201ca) The militia of \u2062the \u200cUnited States consists of all able-bodied males\u200d at least \u206217 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, \u2062under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to\u2063 become, citizens of \u2064the United States and of female citizens\u2063 of the United \u2063States who are members of the National Guard.\u201d\n<\/div>\n<p>So if you\u2019re a 20-year-old male citizen, you\u2019re in the \u200bmilitia\u2014even if you neglected to register for\u2063 the draft, \u200das required by\u200b law.<\/p>\n<p>Contrary \u200cto Mr. Newsom and other gun-controllers, America was born in \u2063the Revolutionary War with the\u2062 blood of patriots who took their \u201cweapons of war\u201d off their fireplace \u200cmantles and marched\u200d off\u200d to the sound of gunfire to wrest this free nation from the\u200d most powerful military in the world at that time, the British Empire. Gun controllers contend \u200dthe \u201cmilitia\u201d is just those in government military forces. No it\u2062 isn\u2019t. (Patrick Fallon\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Hamas Next Door<\/h2>\n<p>  This is crucial because the \u200bBiden\u200d administration, without objection by Mr. Newsom, has opened \u2062our Southern border to anyone. Some of those are or soon could be your neighbors. On Sept. 7, the Republican majority of the House Committee\u2063 on Homeland Security <a href=\"https:\/\/homeland.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/09.07-Phase-2-Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released<\/a> a report, \u201cDHS \u2062Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Has Emboldened Cartels, Criminals, and America\u2019s\u2062 Enemies.\u201d\n<\/div>\n<p>It found: \u201cMayorkas\u2019 open-borders\u200b policies have empowered and emboldened some of the \u2063most vicious, ruthless, and savage individuals and groups in the world. Whether it\u2064 is transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) like the cartels and human \u2064smuggling organizations in \u200bthe Western Hemisphere, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-twitter-contributed-to-david-frenchs-destruction-of-his-own-character\/\" title=\"How Twitter Contributed To David French\u2019s Destruction Of His Own Character\">potential national security threats<\/a>\u2062 from countries \u200cwho sponsor\u200c terrorism, or those coming from\u2063 major state adversaries like China and Russia, the wide-open\u200c Southwest\u200d border has given America\u2019s enemies all over the globe an opportunity to infiltrate the homeland\u2014an opportunity too good to pass up.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>  And on Oct. 15 in San Diego, FBI Director Christopher\u2062 Wray\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/news\/speeches\/director-wray-addresses-iacp-101423\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned<\/a> the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference: \u201cIn this heightened\u2063 environment, there\u2019s no question we\u2019re seeing\u2062 an increase in reported threats, and \u2062we\u2019ve got to be on the lookout, \u200despecially for lone actors who may take inspiration from recent events to commit violence of their own. So I\u200d encourage you to stay vigilant,\u2064 because as the first line of defense in protecting our communities,\u200b you\u2019re often the first to see the \u200bsigns that someone\u200b may be mobilizing to \u200bviolence. And I\u2019d also ask you to continue sharing any intelligence or observations you may\u2064 have. And on our end, we\u2019re committed to doing the same, so that together, we can \u2062safeguard our communities.\u201d\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>  \u2064Of course, it would help if \u2063the FBI wasn&#8217;t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/2023\/10\/13\/exclusive-fbi-targets-trump-followers-as-2024-election-nears-1831836.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">devoting<\/a> massive resources to the false threat coming from former President Trump\u2019s\u2063 peaceful MAGA supporters. And, as I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/opinion\/is-the-fbi-spying-on-my-california-church-5475704\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> \u2062two months ago in\u200c The Epoch \u200dTimes, the FBI \u200dhas also been surveilling Catholics.\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>  Columnist James Howard Kunstler <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lewrockwell.com\/2023\/10\/james-howard-kunstler\/who-do-they-think-theyre-kidding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">put \u200bthe pieces together<\/a> on Mr. Mayorkas and Mr. Wray: \u201cNeither of these officials\u200c noted that \u200dthe rising terror\u2062 threat here had any relation to the\u2063 thousands\u200d of aliens\u200b streaming daily across the US border unvetted, or that the agencies under Homeland Security were helping \u200dto \u2064distribute them into every corner of America by plane and \u200dbus, giving them free cell phones, loaded debit cards, and other rewards for \u2063breaking the law.\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAnd that \u2018lone wolf\u2019 bit\u2014is it possible that any number of them actually arrived as trained \u200dand \u2064pre-organized cadres or squads? How \u2063would we know? Most of them\u200c are military-age young men. Are these \u2064unreasonable questions to ask? And\u200c if Hamas was so\u200c supernaturally successful in\u2063 secretly planning the mass murder and kidnapping operation of 10\/7 from Gaza that\u200d the \u2062world\u2019s supposedly top\u2062 intel agencies \u2063were blindsided\u200d as it rolled out, why should Americans have any confidence that\u200c the \u200bFBI has a clue what \u200cany of those unvetted border-jumping mutts \u200dare up\u2064 to here? (David \u2064Swanson\/AFP via Getty\u2063 Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Terrorists and Sleeper Cells<\/h2>\n<p>  \u200dAlso in August, The Epoch \u2064Times\u2019s Eva Fu <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/article\/fbi-on-frontline-in-fight-against-ccps-covert-war-on-us-5463963\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">headlined<\/a>, \u201cFBI on Front Line in Fight Against CCP\u2019s Covert War \u200con US.\u201d She reported: \u201cForty Chinese \u200dofficers,\u2062 a retired NYPD sergeant, two Navy sailors-turned-spies, and two \u2063minders of a secret Chinese police station in New York. These cases,\u200b and others, feed an ever-growing list of \u2063FBI investigations as the agency zeroes in on combating Chinese espionage operations, an arena it has branded its \u2018top \u200ccounterintelligence \u200bpriority.\u2019\u201d\n<\/div>\n<p>What would these covert operators do if they were genuine \u201csleeper cells\u201d? Let me speculate. The Chinese\u200b Communist\u200d Party wouldn\u2019t waste\u200d them on \u200ccommon terrorism. Instead, it would wait until an attack by Hamas or some\u200d other terrorists started massacring people \u2062in the streets, in stores, and in their homes. Then the sleeper cell might shut down power stations, leaving millions of people in darkness as they\u2019re being assaulted. The power station\u2019s software might be sabotaged, or explosives used. Chaos would ensue.<\/p>\n<p>In such a situation, those with \u201carms\u200c of war\u201d to defend their families would have a greater chance of survival than \u2064those disarmed by Mr. Newsom\u2019s gun-control bills or his constitutional amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Guns are as American as apple pie. Get yours, if you wish. Practice at a range. Exercise safety \u200cthere and at \u200dhome, \u200despecially\u2064 if you\u2063 have children, the precious\u200d ones you \u2064will be defending. Follow the law. Be alert. Get ready. Compare that to the estimated 466 million owned firearms in the\u2062 country, and it becomes clear that the &#8220;militia&#8221; referred to in the Second Amendment encompasses a much broader group of individuals.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2063 Supreme Court \u2063ruling in the \u200dHeller case \u200caffirmed that the Second Amendment protects an individual&#8217;s right to keep and bear arms, not just in connection with \u2064service in an organized militia. This right \u200cis crucial for self-defense and for the defense\u200b of one&#8217;s \u200cfamily\u200c and community. In fact, the right to \u2062self-defense is a fundamental human right, recognized by international law.<\/p>\n<p>It \u200dis worth noting that in countries with \u2063strict gun control laws, such as Israel, where the right to private gun \u2063ownership is \u200cnot guaranteed by law, civilians are often defenseless against \u200cacts of terror or other forms of violence. The recent attack by Hamas in Israel serves as a stark reminder that even in a country \u2063with \u2064a strong military, unarmed\u200b civilians are vulnerable targets.<\/p>\n<p>Gun control \u2062advocates often argue that stricter gun laws would prevent\u2062 mass shootings and other acts of violence.\u200b However, it is\u2064 important to recognize that\u2063 criminals and terrorists do not abide by the law. \u2063They \u200dwill find ways to obtain firearms regardless of \u2062legal restrictions. Restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens \u2062to defend\u200d themselves only leaves them at the mercy of those who have no regard for the law.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the vast majority of firearms\u200d owners in\u200c the United States are responsible individuals who use their firearms for self-defense, \u2064sport shooting, or hunting<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This governor&#8217;s statement is incredibly ignorant.
