In May,\u200b the \u200cChicago City Council announced that $51\u2064 million from\u200c the budget would be used to\u200d address the influx of\u200b immigrants.<\/p>\n<p>Chicago is currently facing a significant influx of \u2064illegal immigrants. Just last week, 41 new\u200b buses arrived \u200din the city, bringing the total number of migrants in shelters to 11,000, with 4,000 still sleeping on police station floors and staying at airports.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Meanwhile, residents who witness their \u2063fellow Chicagoans living\u200d on the\u2064 streets are outraged by what they perceive as \u200da misallocation of funds. \u200bThey believe that \u2064resources should be prioritized for the city&#8217;s own population in desperate need.<\/p>\n<p>Tyrone Muhammad, executive director of ECCSC, a Chicago-based group advocating for social \u200bchange, expressed his frustration, stating that limited resources should be directed \u2063towards Chicagoans rather than \u2064illegal immigrants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of\u200d helping our\u200d own people, we are going to send these \u2063limited resources \u2062to the people who broke the law to help\u2062 them furnish their new homes?\u201d added Mr. Muhammed.<\/p>\n<h2>Over 68,000 Homeless Americans\u2062 in\u2064 Chicago<\/h2>\n<p>An estimated 68,440\u200c homeless Americans are currently living on the streets of Chicago, \u200daccording to\u200c the most recent data from 2021.\u2063 This number \u200bhas been steadily increasing \u200dover the past\u200d two years, as reported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagohomeless.org\/estimate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chicago \u200cCoalition\u200d of the Homeless.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has\u2062 emphasized the urgent need\u200b for federal\u2062 assistance,\u200c stating that the city is \u2064reaching a breaking point.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>\u201cLet me\u2062 state this clearly: The city of\u2063 Chicago cannot go on welcoming new arrivals safely and capably \u2064without significant support \u2062and\u200b immigration policy changes,\u201d Mayor \u2063Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/chicago-residents-push-back-on-illegal-immigrant-housing-5487357\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told reporters at \u200da news conference<\/a> last September. \u201cThe feds\u2064 haven\u2019t sent any\u200b money.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>However, Mr. Muhammed \u200dargues that the \u2064crisis \u2062was partly created by Mayor Johnson and other elected officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe priorities of our leaders to continue putting them \u200dabove\u200d our own people is insane, and people are getting angrier and angrier every second \u200cof every day,\u201d\u2062 said Mr. Muhammed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\" style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>People congregate outside the Standard Club, once \u2064an \u200delite private club, \u200dwhich is being used to house an influx of migrants\u200c to Chicago, Ill., on May\u2063 10, 2023. Take them someplace else \u2062or send them back to Venezuela. I don&#8217;t \u2062care where they go,&#8221; shouted resident Doris Lewis, according to footage acquired\u200b by\u2062 Fox 5. &#8220;This\u2063 is \u2064wrong. You\u200b got 73 percent of\u2062 the people that are homeless \u200bin the city\u200d are black people; what have\u200d you done \u200cfor them?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Other residents threatened to take \u200cmatters into their own hands if the city didn&#8217;t take \u2064action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey disrespect us, rob\u200b us,\u200b harass us,\u201d one woman said to ABC 7 Chicago. \u201cWe\u2019re gonna take\u2063 over. Nobody is\u2062 gonna be able \u2063to\u200d stop us \u200dfrom what we\u2019re gonna do to\u200c them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the city has experienced\u200b a surge\u2062 in violence. As of August\u200b 31, Chicago police have responded to \u200d1,677 shootings and 418 homicides this \u200dyear.
