However, this advantage can still be halted by the United States and European allies, according to Richard Goldberg, a senior\u200d advisor\u2064 for the Foundation \u2062for Defense of Democracies.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Loss of the sanctions will be &#8216;a huge victory for Tehran,&#8217; according to Richard Goldberg.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The current Biden administration&#8217;s inaction to continue the sanctions is seen as an \u2064unforgivable policy choice by Goldberg, who likens it to \u2062&#8221;appeasement.&#8221; He suggests that the United States can prevent the expiration of the sanctions by sending a letter \u2064to the United Nations Security Council and triggering snapback\u2064 sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>The sanctions are a result of \u200dResolution 2231 \u200bof the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action passed in 2015\u2064 by the UN Security Council, which limits\u2064 Iranian nuclear efforts.
