Newsom lifts Calif. lockdown orders amid mounting backlash\">recent interview<\/a>\u2063 on Newsmax, Republican \u200cRepresentative\u2063 Matt Gaetz of \u200cFlorida argued that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is merely a &#8220;frontman&#8221;\u200b for former House Speaker \u200cNancy Pelosi.<\/p>\n<p>The discussion arose in \u2062the context \u200bof \u2063reports that some House \u2062Republicans\u200c were considering \u2063striking a deal\u2062 with Democrats to elect \u2063a House \u200cspeaker\u200b other than Representative Jim Jordan\u200b of Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz \u200bexpressed surprise that supporting Jordan is a difficult decision for some Republican lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p>The congressman explained that Kevin \u200dMcCarthy is\u2062 no longer\u2063 speaker because he lost the trust of \u200da group of\u200d Republican conference members by failing\u200d to fulfill the agreements he made in January to secure the\u200d position.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2064 think \u200dJim\u2062 Jordan has a lot \u200bof trust among\u2062 conservative Republicans, more moderate Republicans. We\u200d should go forward with Jim Jordan,&#8221; Gaetz emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>The representative further contended\u2063 that Pelosi is the one truly in charge\u2062 of Democrats, operating behind the scenes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nancy Pelosi \u200drules \u2062with an iron fist,&#8221; Gaetz asserted. &#8220;And by the way, she\u2019s still the one \u200cin charge of\u200d that conference.
