This ⁢article examines the motivations behind the attacks and the ongoing ‌political unrest ⁣in Guatemala.

Background:

For nearly two weeks, protesters have ⁣been ‍demanding ⁤the resignation of Attorney ⁣General Consuelo Porras, accusing her of interfering⁢ in the popular vote that‍ saw progressive candidate Bernardo Arevalo elected as the⁤ country’s ‌president-elect. The demonstrations aim to combat corruption and impunity within the ‍government and have gained momentum‍ due to growing frustration with the current administration.

Anonymous’ Actions:

On Saturday, the activist group “Anonymous” took down several government‌ webpages, joining forces with the ‍ongoing protests. The ‌hackers stated their actions were in support of humanity, seeking to expose corruption and fight against impunity. ⁤Guatemalan authorities labeled the attacks as a national security concern.

Persisting Protests:

Despite ⁣increased police response, Guatemalan activist groups remain resilient, ⁢urging the population to continue resisting. The protests reflect a growing dissatisfaction ‍with ⁢the government’s handling of political matters.

Support and Calls for Resignation:

Thousands of activists have demanded the resignation of Attorney General Consuelo Porras, as well as prosecutors Rafael Curruchiche and Cinthia Monterroso. Protesters have also targeted Judge Fredy ‍Orellana, calling for his ‌removal from office. The continued pressure aims to hold those in power accountable and foster a more transparent political system.

Miguel Martinez’s⁢ Involvement:

During the protests, Miguel Martinez, a former government official and⁢ close friend of President Alejandro Giammattei, found himself surrounded by protesters ⁤while leaving Mass in Antigua. These demonstrations centered around ⁢allegations of corruption ‌against‌ Martinez, although there is no current investigation by the ‍prosecutor’s office.

Conclusion:

The recent cyberattacks on Guatemalan government websites by the Anonymous group illustrate the rising tension in the ‌country. With ongoing protests and calls for the resignation of key government figures, Guatemala finds itself‍ at a⁣ critical juncture in ⁣its political history. As the situation unfolds, the international community will closely monitor the progress of these events‌ and their⁤ implications for the country’s democratic‍ processes.

Indigenous women burn incense outside Guatemala’s Constitutional Court, demanding the resignation of judicial officials accused of causing an electoral crisis.
