Gavin Newsom&#8217;s\u200b (D-CA) political ambitions\u2064 are once again\u200c at the forefront after he vetoed at least 143\u2063 bills\u200d last weekend, a \u2062disappointment to many progressives \u200din the deep blue Golden \u2064State and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Newsom&#8217;s vetoing of scores \u200bof legislation, including proposals\u2063 making insulin more affordable, free condoms\u200d for high \u200dschoolers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gavin-newsom-vetoes-unnecessary-ban-on-caste-discrimination\/\" title=\"Gavin Newsom rejects 'unnecessary' caste discrimination ban.\">banning caste discrimination<\/a>, decriminalizing the use of \u200bpsychedelic drugs, unemployment \u2063benefits for striking workers, and cannabis\u2063 cafes, has \u200bcaused \u200csome on \u2063the Left to\u200d wonder if the governor is\u200c more interested in seeking the White House as a centrist Democrat in\u2063 the future\u200c than attending \u2064to\u200b constituent concerns.<\/p>\n<h3>A Calculated Move \u2064for \u2063a Potential \u2064Presidential Run<\/h3>\n<p>One Democratic consultant said that Newsom is simply preparing himself\u2062 for a general electorate should he launch \u200ca \u2063presidential bid \u2063in the future, likely in \u20632028.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I \u2062think Gov.\u200d Newsom recognizes \u200bthat the secret to winning a Democratic\u2063 nomination is to be liberal but not\u2064 too liberal,&#8221; \u2064said Democratic \u2063strategist Brad Bannon about a potential White House run. &#8220;And I think that reflects his \u200dperformance as governor \u200drecently. I \u200bthink he&#8217;s just\u2064 trying to show \u200dthat he&#8217;s not a stereotypical lefty. And I think he understands that the \u200csweet spot in the Democratic Party is not on the Left but it&#8217;s on the center-Left.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bannon pointed to President Joe Biden&#8217;s \u20622020 run in which he, a\u200d centrist\u200d politician, bested several liberal presidential \u200bcandidates in \u200cthe\u200c Democratic \u2064primary, including Sen. Bernie \u2063Sanders (I-VT) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) for \u200bthe nominee.<\/p>\n<p>However, not all are convinced Newsom&#8217;s actions will pan out.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This playbook \u2014 liberal governor of a liberal state moves toward the middle in an\u200b effort to\u2063 appeal to voters nationwide \u2014 isn\u2019t exactly novel,&#8221; wrote journalist\u200c and attorney Jill Filipovic in\u2063 a CNN\u200c op-ed piece. &#8220;It is \u2064disappointing, though. Newsom also approved of\u2063 an &#8220;Ebony Alert&#8221; system\u200b to help find missing \u2064black \u2064women and children, along with another bill that\u2064 bans more than two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/newsom-plays-the-political-long-game-ahead-of-2024-and-beyond\/\" title=\"Newsom strategizes for future political success beyond 2024.\">dozen potentially toxic cosmetic ingredients<\/a> and another \u200cbill \u200bto go \u2064before voters in\u2063 2024 that will help transform California&#8217;s mental health system by overhauling how counties pay for \u200dmental \u2064and behavioral\u200b health programs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today, again,\u2062 is about holding ourselves to a higher\u200b level of \u2062accountability and a higher level \u2064of expectation,&#8221; Newsom\u2062 said during a Thursday news conference\u200c where he signed the mental health legislation into law.\u200d &#8220;And \u200cit&#8217;s about creating a framework \u200bwhere\u2062 we\u200b can actually deliver.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Potential Clash with Vice President Kamala Harris<\/h3>\n<p>During last month&#8217;s \u200dsecond GOP primary debate in Simi Valley, California, \u200dNewsom appeared in the\u2063 spin \u200droom both before and after the debate and then joined Fox News host Sean Hannity&#8217;s show, where he dodged questioning on \u2062running \u2063for\u200b president\u200b in 2024. \u201cOf course not. It\u2019s a hypothetical,\u201d\u2063 Newsom told Hannity about a possible run.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s ridiculous.
