This wasp, scientifically known as Capitojoppa amazonica, has recently been discovered and it&#8217;s not for the \u200cfaint of heart.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Head of the newfound parasitoid wasp species, Capitojoppa amazonica. It impales \u2063its victims, extracting their bloodlike \u2063fluid, and then proceeds to devour them from\u2063 the\u200d inside out.<\/p>\n<p>However, \u2063before you start picturing scenes from B-grade horror movies, it&#8217;s\u2063 important\u2064 to note that\u200b this \u200bwasp primarily feasts on caterpillars, beetles, and spiders.<\/p>\n<p>The wasp was discovered in Peru&#8217;s National Reserve of Allpahuayo-Mishana by Brandon Claridge, a doctoral candidate in biology at Utah State University. Claridge explained that the female wasp locates its host, deposits a single egg inside it, and \u2063then the\u200d hatched \u2063larvae consume the host from within. Another species\u2063 of\u200b wasp, Calistoga crassicaudata, has\u2064 also been discovered in the Amazon. These wasps lay their eggs in a host, which is eventually killed \u200dby the hatching larvae. While they have giant stingers, they are \u2062harmless to humans as their stingers are too weak to penetrate our skin.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that the \u200dAmazon is a treasure trove of bizarre and terrifying creatures.
