Alito is the designated justice for matters arising \u200dfrom a group of \u2063states, \u2063including Louisiana where the lawsuit was filed.<\/p>\n<p>Last July, U.S. \u2062District Judge Terry Doughty from Louisiana blocked the Biden administration from communicating with tech firms, stating that the plaintiffs were likely to succeed in \u200ctheir lawsuit. The judge accused the federal\u2063 government of suppressing views on COVID-19\u200d masks, lockdowns, vaccines,\u200d and \u2064fraud claims related to the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Judge Doughty warned that &#8220;during the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States Government seems to have assumed a role similar to an Orwellian &#8216;Ministry of Truth.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Later,\u200b the \u2064U.S. Fifth Circuit \u2064Court of Appeals narrowed down \u200dthe lower court&#8217;s injunction but affirmed that \u200dthe White House, Surgeon \u200bGeneral&#8217;s office, U.S. \u200bCenters for Disease Control and Prevention, FBI, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) cannot communicate \u2062with tech firms regarding\u2062 content moderation.<\/p>\n<p>The appeals judges wrote\u200b at the time that &#8220;the officials likely\u200b violated the First Amendment&#8221; and that &#8220;CISA likely significantly encouraged the platforms&#8217; content-moderation decisions and thereby violated\u200b the First Amendment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>House Judiciary Chairman Jim\u2063 Jordan (R-Ohio) and other \u200bHouse Republicans filed a court document supporting the lower court&#8217;s preliminary injunction, accusing federal authorities of suppressing\u2062 speech that violates the First Amendment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\">\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention \u200d(CDC) was \u200damong \u200bthe agencies\u200c that were \u2062barred from communicating with \u2062social media firms.
