Some students carried signs \u200cwith messages such as \u201cZionism=terrorism\u201d or \u201cDecolonize Palestine.\u200b End Israel Apartheid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/video-from-capitol-breach-contradicts-public-narrative-must-be-released-lawyer-argues\/\" title=\"\u00a0Video From Capitol Breach \u2018Contradicts Public Narrative,\u2019 Must Be Released, Lawyer Argues\u00a0\">narrow piece<\/a> of\u2064 land bordered by Israel to\u2062 the east and north is home to 2.3 million people. Israeli airstrikes have leveled whole neighborhoods,\u201d\u2062 Viel\u2063 continued.<\/p>\n<p>Then came the obligatory acknowledgment of the other side, which \u2062felt like an \u2062afterthought at best.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tenn-republicans-introduce-bill-allowing-fathers-to-petition-to-block-mothers-from-having-abortions\/\" title=\"Tenn. Republicans introduce bill allowing fathers to petition to block mothers from having abortions\">smaller group<\/a> \u200bof Israeli-American\u2064 students \u200cstood by with their own flags,\u201d Viel said\u2064 in a tone that suggested the \u200bintruding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cnn-reporter-learns-firsthand-dont-stand-close-israeli-tank-rolling-fight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Israeli<\/a> students had invented those flags\u200d or something.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, more than 90 seconds\u200b into the report, Viel\u200b came \u2062to what any sane person regards as the central point. To convey that point,\u200b however,\u2064 she had to interview an Israeli-American student.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re just here to\u200d preach peace,\u200b and preach love, and we are hoping\u2064 for better days both for Palestinians and the\u2063 Israelis,\u201d the\u2064 student\u200b said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it\u2019s not\u2063 gonna go if they\u2019re gonna support\u200b Hamas. We \u200cgotta\u2062 condemn Hamas first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Having finally arrived at\u2062 the heart of the matter, surely Viel gave appropriate\u2064 attention to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hamas-leader-explains-reasoning-behind-deadly-prisoner-captures-underway-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamas\u2019<\/a> Gestapo-like rampage through Israel last weekend, right?<\/p>\n<p>She did not.<\/p>\n<p>To all but those who understand the rot in U.S. universities and \u200cestablishment media, Viel\u2019s next statement defies \u2063comprehension.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome Palestinian-Americans\u2062 on campus say they live in fear as well,\u201d \u200bthe CBS reporter said.<\/p>\n<p>She \u200bactually said that.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/reporter-holds-back-tears-witnessing-1-10-residents-killed-hamas-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamas<\/a> committed Holocaust-like atrocities, but some of UCLA\u2019s Palestinian-American students, the reporter declared, do not feel safe.<\/p>\n<p>To illustrate, a\u200d student with a cloth mask pulled down from his nose complained about insults and having his flag\u2063 stolen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey \u200csay they\u2019ve been harassed and threatened. They showed us these recent emails, one\u200b that reads, \u2018a good Palestinian is a dead\u200d Palestinian,&#8217;\u201d Viel said.<\/p>\n<p>If\u200b only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hamas-calls-muslims-around-world-mobilize-friday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamas<\/a> had limited itself \u200bto\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pro-life-group-says-lawsuits-over-texas-abortion-law-are-self-serving-legal-stunts\/\" title=\"Pro-Life Group Says Lawsuits Over Texas Abortion Law Are \u2018Self Serving Legal Stunts\u2019\">sending threatening emails<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Predictably, Viel then found a Palestinian-American professor willing to\u2062 attest to this collective \u200cvictimization.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe feel \u200clike we\u2019re unable to speak, \u2064we\u2019re unable to talk, we\u2019re unable to\u2064 teach, we\u2019re unable to be students and faculty on the university campus,\u201d Professor Saree \u2062Makdisi said of \u200bhimself and the students freely marching and chanting outside.<\/p>\n<p>Makdisi\u200d complained about a recent incident in which\u2062 \u201cmasked men\u201d \u2014 are there\u2062 any other\u2063 kind on this \u2064campus? \u2014 allegedly yelled at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/massive-pro-palestinian-rally-us-theater-erupts-cheers-speaker-defends-hamas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Palestinian<\/a>-American students and threw their laptops\u200c in the trash.<\/p>\n<p>Viel\u2019s narrative continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMakdisi says he does not support terrorists or the\u2063 deadly attack \u200bSaturday on Israeli civilians, when hundreds of\u2062 gunmen crossed\u2062 the barrier and rampaged towns,\u201d\u200b the reporter said.<\/p>\n<p>He does not support terrorists. Good to know. Alas, the inevitable qualifying conjunction followed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut\u2063 he also says families and children are \u200dbeing killed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/israel-airdrops-flyers-warning-citizens-gaza-strip-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gaza<\/a>, and the \u2063U.S.\u2064 should stop it,\u201d Viel said.<\/p>\n<p>To conclude the recorded portion of her\u200b report, Viel again turned to the professor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cViolence begets violence. Then we have to stop the conditions that give rise to the violence,\u201d Makdisi said.<\/p>\n<p>At that point, KCAL returned to a shot of Viel and the rally.<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<h3>There are two \u2062disheartening and related elements to this\u2064 story.<\/h3>\n<p>The first has \u200dto do with\u200b the rally itself \u200band what it says about the state \u200dof U.S. universities.<\/p>\n<p>On \u2064social media, for instance,\u200d a number of \u200cpeople posted different clips from the rally, along with disapproving \u200dtweets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a @UCLA alum, part\u2062 time lecturer and Jew, I find\u2062 the chanting of \u2018intifada,\u200b intifada!\u2019 disgusting in the wake \u200dof the barbaric terror attacks in #israel and Hamas call for violence against Jews\u200b globally. This is happening now at \u200dUCLA,\u201d one user tweeted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">As \u2063a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UCLA?\">@UCLA<\/a> alum, part time lecturer and Jew, \u2062I find the chanting of \u2064\u201cintifada, intifada!\u201d disgusting in the wake of\u2063 the barbaric terror\u200c attacks in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/israel?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#israel<\/a> and Hamas call for violence against Jews globally.<br \/>\nThis is happening now\u2062 at UCLA <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ua7tLk2dwX\">pic.twitter.com\/ua7tLk2dwX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ariel \u200dJalali  (@arieljalali) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/arieljalali\/status\/1712596389497286825?\">October 12, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis \u2063is from today on the \u2062campus of UCLA. \u200dPro-Hamas students, most in masks\u2062 to hide their identities, chanting \u2018intifada\u2019 or\u2062 armed, violent rebellion against Israel, after 1200+ massacres \u2064in cold blood and hundreds taken hostage. Pro-Hamas students, most in masks to hide \u200btheir identities, chanting \u201cintifada\u201d or armed, violent rebellion against Israel, after 1200+ massacres in cold blood and hundreds taken \u2064hostage.<\/p>\n<p>How can anyone \u2064support mass slaughter of\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eOqmsoy9no\">pic.twitter.com\/eOqmsoy9no<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Houman David Hemmati, MD, PhD (@houmanhemmati) \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/houmanhemmati\/status\/1712666370289107153?\">October\u200d 13, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The same user also shared a different \u2062clip from the rally:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Same group\u200d today at UCLA. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/62ybEtmzeh\">pic.twitter.com\/62ybEtmzeh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Houman \u200cDavid Hemmati, MD, PhD (@houmanhemmati) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/houmanhemmati\/status\/1712668103295770698?\">October 13, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cLos Angeles, Happening Now: UCLA pro-Hamas student group \u201cStudents \u200bfor Justice in Palestine\u201d holds a walkout and \u2064rally,\u201d another\u200d user wrote in a tweet accompanying a different clip showing an overhead view of\u200c the rally.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Los Angeles, Happening Now: UCLA pro-Hamas \u200bstudent group \u201cStudents\u200c for Justice in Palestine\u201d \u2064holds a walkout and rally. \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0rRTaL9PYM\">pic.twitter.com\/0rRTaL9PYM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Anny (@anny25717503) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/anny25717503\/status\/1712596641411137743?\">October 12, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>How such a thing as a \u201cpro-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/us-us-government-sent-hundreds-millions-dollars-gaza-since-hamas-took-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamas<\/a> group\u201d exists\u2064 anywhere in the world defies comprehension.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u2064 again, there\u2063 is no depth to which universities cannot descend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/ucla-students-offered-extra-credit-to-attend-anti-israel-emergency-teach-in-hosted-by-gender-studies-professor?utm_campaign=64466\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The \u200cPost Millennial<\/a>, for \u200cinstance, reported that UCLA \u200dstudents received extra credit to attend an anti-Israel \u201cEmergency \u2062Teach-In\u201d on Wednesday evening, \u201cconvened\u201d by a \u200dpair of UCLA professors, one from English and \u200danother from the\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-cbs-airs-fluff-piece-glorifying-students-shouting-intifada-at-anti-israel-rally\/\" title=\"CBS airs biased segment promoting students chanting 'Intifada' at anti-Israel rally.\">fake \u201cgender\u200c studies\u201d\u200b discipline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2023\/10\/12\/hamas-massacre-sparks-pro-palestine-anti-israel-demonstrations-college-campuses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Breitbart<\/a> reported Thursday that similar anti-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ben-shapiro-takes-shot-tucker-carlson-claiming-downplaying-israel-attacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Israel<\/a> rallies and their associated horrors have broken out on campuses \u2062across the \u200ccountry.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly all universities embrace \u2064a dichotomous \u201coppressor vs.\u200c oppressed\u201d narrative view of the world. This narrative explains much\u2063 \u2014 though not all \u2014 of the rot in modern higher education.<\/p>\n<p>The second disheartening element of this story \u2063involves the CBS reporting.<\/p>\n<p>Here one hardly knows where to begin.<\/p>\n<p>For starters, note Viel\u2019s wording with respect to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/view-host-sunny-hostin-forced-mental-gymnastics-defend-hamas-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamas\u2019<\/a> weekend atrocities. She said, \u201chundreds of\u200d gunmen crossed the barrier \u200band rampaged \u2064towns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gunmen. Barrier. Towns.<\/p>\n<p>She did not say, \u201chundreds of terrorists invaded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/israel-defense-forces-major-advantage-thanks-newly-upgraded-equipment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Israel<\/a>.\u201d Nor \u200cdid she mention what they did \u200dwhen they got there.\u2062 Instead, they \u2064\u201crampaged towns.\u201d What\u2063 does\u200c that even\u200d mean? How does one rampage a town?<\/p>\n<p>Then\u2064 we have Makdisi\u2019s shopworn claim that \u201cconditions\u201d beget violence.<\/p>\n<p>As a \u2062general observation, of course, this claim has merit. The fact that a student protest at UCLA could be so heavily biased and one-sided is indicative of the erosion\u200c of intellectual diversity and the prevalence of ideological \u2063echo chambers on American\u200b campuses. Instead of fostering an environment of critical thinking and open dialogue, universities have become breeding grounds for radical\u2064 ideologies and intolerant behavior. Sensible Americans, who value reason and fairness, have little hope of finding anything worthwhile in \u200bthe current state of U.S. universities.<\/p>\n<p>The second disheartening element is the biased reporting by \u2064the establishment media, as exemplified by CBS&#8217; coverage of the UCLA protest. The media&#8217;s\u200d role should be to\u2063 present objective \u2062and unbiased information to the public, allowing\u2063 individuals to form their own opinions.
