Jim Jordan \u200c(R-OH) as\u2062 their nominee for speaker, following the unsuccessful bid of Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA). In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ny-gov-cuomo-shunned-experts-embraced-lobbyists-drove-top-health-officials-to-quit-over-pandemic-response-report\/\" title=\"NY Gov. Austin Scott (R-GA) who also vied for the position. However, Jordan still needs to\u200b solidify support from a few holdouts before the matter is referred to the full House for a vote.<\/p>\n<p>There is a possibility that\u2062 the vote will be delayed as some Republicans are \u200dcurrently away \u200dfrom Washington, D.C. for \u2062the weekend. It is expected that the\u2062 vote will be postponed until enough members return to meet the required 217-majority vote threshold.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan emerged as a strong contender earlier\u2062 in\u2063 the week when he ran against Scalise in another closed-door meeting. Although Scalise narrowly won, Jordan dropped his bid and\u200b endorsed Scalise.
