Instead, passengers will fly \u200dto European destinations from where they can continue their journey \u200bto the United States.<\/p>\n<p>On\u200b Oct. \u206310, the State Department stated\u200b that the Biden\u200d administration is\u200b working to facilitate flights for \u2064Americans\u200c seeking to leave Israel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have been in contact with a number \u2062of American citizens in \u200cIsrael. There are a \u200cnumber&#8230; who are longtime residents of Israel, some of whom are dual citizens, some of them who moved\u2063 there,&#8221; explained \u2064State Department\u200c spokesperson Matthew Miller during a press\u2063 briefing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And then there are\u200b Americans who \u200dwere there&#8230; either visiting for business, or for tourism or something else, and have been \u2064in contact with a number of Americans through our embassy there,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some of whom we have \u2063helped facilitate travel to depart\u2062 the \u2064country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The airport is \u200bstill\u200c open. There are flights that are getting out of the airport in Tel Aviv. And so we encourage people\u200b to try to avail themselves of those options.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have also been \u2064in conversation with various \u2062carriers to encourage them to consider resuming travel in and out of Israel and will continue to do that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Several airlines, including American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Airlines, Ryanair, and British Airways, have suspended flights to and from Israel due to the ongoing \u2062conflict, which has seen Hamas launching \u2062rockets, some of which have \u2064targeted \u200dBen Gurion International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We understand that there are a number of American citizens who want to leave Israel and that currently, it may be that there aren&#8217;t enough available flights because some carriers have suspended \u2063travel,&#8221; Mr. Miller responded to a question about stranded \u200dcitizens in Israel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As I said, we have been in discussions with \u2064carriers\u200c urging \u2062them to consider \u2063whether they want to resume travel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are still flights that are making\u2063 it out of Israel,\u200d some El \u200dAl flights, other flights operated by carriers\u200d in the region,&#8221; he added, referring to Israel&#8217;s national airline.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And so we would encourage you as \u200bcitizens to try to take \u200cadvantage of those flights \u200bor other routes out. And if they do contact the embassy, we will seek to facilitate travel with any\u2063 information that we\u200b have that can be helpful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>U.S. citizens \u2063looking to leave Israel should contact the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem at 1-833-890-9595 or 1-606-641-0131.<\/p>\n<p>Since the conflict began on Oct. 7, at least 2,500\u200b people, including 27 U.S. citizens, have lost their \u2064lives.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> In addition\u200b to chartering flights, what other options is the Biden administration exploring to assist Americans\u2063 in leaving Israel?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Re other American citizens who may \u2062be visiting on vacation or for other reasons, and we\u2019re engaging with all of those populations&#8230; to ensure that they have the information that \u2064they need about the situation and \u200babout \u200bhow \u2063to stay safe,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to \u200ccharter flights out of Israel comes\u200d as the attacks by Hamas on \u2064Israeli cities have escalated in recent weeks.
