Civilian \u201ccollateral damage\u201d \u2014 to use that ghastly phrase \u2014 always \u200bincludes innocents.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, this is \u2062not\u200d the place to judge each side\u2019s historical grievances, and in any case I am\u200c not qualified to adjudicate them.<\/p>\n<p>Of all the objections one could raise against \u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/israel-comes-attack-time-north\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Israel<\/a>, however,\u2063 surely Hostin\u2019s makes \u2064the least sense.<\/p>\n<p>To see why, we must \u2063understand the context of her \u201cinternational human rights law\u201d comment.<\/p>\n<p>In the lead-up\u2064 to\u200b that comment, Hostin explained that political \u200bcircumstances among Palestinians required special consideration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe \u2063need to also recognize that the Palestinians that are\u2064 there now, that are descendants of refugees, have not\u2064 had \u200ca democratic election since 2007,\u201d Hostin said.<\/p>\n<p>Hamas, Hostin thus \u2062implied, does not represent the will of the \u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fact-check-israel-bombing-palestinian-mosques-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Palestinian<\/a> people.<\/p>\n<p>Nicholas Fondacaro of\u2062 the Media \u200cResearch Center posted a\u200c clip of Hostin\u2019s comments Wednesday on \u200bX, formerly Twitter.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Sunny Hostin falsely claims the people of Gaza \u200d\u201cdid not\u201d \u2063vote\u2062 in Hamas to be \u200btheir\u2062 leaders.<br \/>\nShe goes on to spew Hamas talking \u200dpoints that Israel\u2019s \u2064military is violating \u201cinternational \u200chuman rights law\u201d \u200bwhen they \u201cretaliate \u2063collectively.\u201d<br \/>\nThe panel pushes back noting human shields <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WJueaacA2a\">pic.twitter.com\/WJueaacA2a<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1712129283903135914?\">October 11, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Among Palestinians in Gaza, enthusiasm for Hamas no \u2062doubt \u200cfluctuates.<\/p>\n<p>To Hostin\u2019s central point, however, the question of Palestinian\u2063 support\u200d for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/massive-pro-palestinian-rally-us-theater-erupts-cheers-speaker-defends-hamas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamas<\/a> makes little real difference.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine, for instance, the perspective of an\u2062 Allied bomber pilot during World War II.<\/p>\n<p>The pilot \u2062receives orders\u2062 to drop his deadly \u2064payload over a\u2063 German industrial center. At some point, from sheer empathy, perhaps he\u200d cannot help but think of the civilians his mission will \u2062kill. Those dead civilians almost certainly will haunt his postwar nightmares.<\/p>\n<p>In that moment, \u2062however,\u200d does he protest the order on account of Germany\u2019s \u200binternal political circumstances? \u2062Does he say \u200dto\u2062 his commanding officer, \u201cBut sir, the Germans have not had a truly democratic election since 1932\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>One can scarcely imagine\u2063 a \u2062more nonsensical train of thought.<\/p>\n<p>None of this obviates concern for the rights and welfare of\u2063 anti-Hamas Palestinian non-combatants.<\/p>\n<p>Neither, however, does that\u200c humanitarian concern diminish the palpable \u200babsurdity of Hostin\u2019s comment.<\/p>\n<p>In\u200c sum, by her\u200c reasoning, a\u200d nation may only conduct\u200c a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/israel-orders-complete-siege-gaza-vows-crush-military-governing-capabilities-hamas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gaza<\/a>-like operation \u200bagainst a\u2064 democratically-elected enemy.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h3>An Urgent Note from Our Staff:<\/h3>\n<p><em><b>The Western Journal has been\u2064 labeled \u201cdangerous\u201d simply because we have a biblical\u2063 worldview and speak \u2063the truth about what \u200dis happening in America.<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We refuse to let Big \u2064Tech and woke advertisers \u2063dictate the content\u200d we share with our community. It \u200dis important to remember that Hamas is recognized as a terrorist organization by several countries,\u2064 including the United States, and is known\u200d for using human shields, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-state-department-says-number-of-americans-killed-in-israel-has-more-than-doubled\/\" title=\"US State Department: American deaths in Israel more than double\">launching indiscriminate rocket attacks<\/a>, and\u200d advocating \u200bfor \u200dthe destruction of Israel. \u2064 <\/p>\n<p>Israel, on the other hand, has the right to protect \u2064its citizens from \u200dthese attacks and has taken measures to minimize civilian casualties, such as warning civilians before conducting \u2063airstrikes and targeting specific military \u2063sites. While civilian \u200bcasualties are undoubtedly tragic, Hamas&#8217; tactics\u2064 of launching attacks from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-view-host-sunny-hostin-forced-to-do-mental-gymnastics-to-defend-hamas-against-israel\/\" title=\"'The View' Host Sunny Hostin Struggles to Justify Hamas Over Israel\">densely populated civilian \u2062areas make<\/a> it difficult for\u200d Israel\u2063 to respond\u200b without causing unintended \u2062harm.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, it is worth\u2062 noting that Israel has\u200d offered numerous opportunities for\u2064 peace negotiations and has made concessions \u2064in the past, such\u200b as withdrawing from Gaza in 2005. However, Hamas has consistently rejected \u200cthese offers and instead chosen to\u2063 continue their attacks. <\/p>\n<p>Hostin&#8217;s attempt to portray Israel&#8217;s\u2063 actions \u200bas a violation\u2063 of international\u2062 human rights law is a misinterpretation of the\u2063 facts and a distortion of reality. Israel has\u2063 the right to defend its borders and its citizens, just like any \u200cother sovereign nation. By \u200bequating \u2062Israel&#8217;s defensive actions with \u200dHamas&#8217; offensive actions, Hostin overlooks the fundamental difference between \u200da legitimate state defending itself and a terrorist organization \u200blaunching attacks.<\/p>\n<p>It is crucial to approach discussions on complex geopolitical \u2062issues with nuance and an understanding of the historical context. While it is valid \u200dto question\u200c and criticize the actions of any government, it is irresponsible to make \u2063unfounded accusations or misinterpret international law.
