The recent revelation that the U.S. attorney investigating the case wanted ⁤to charge Hunter ⁣Biden in Washington, ⁤but was declined by ⁢another prosecutor, adds another layer to this ongoing saga.

According to Matthew Graves, ⁢the U.S. attorney for⁤ the District of Columbia, he was approached by ⁢David Weiss, the U.S. attorney for⁣ the District of Delaware, in early 2022. Weiss had⁢ an ⁣ongoing investigation and‌ requested logistical support and assistance in bringing charges against Hunter Biden. Graves stated ⁣that Weiss needed some charges to‍ be venued out of his district and described the support he needed.

Graves proposed a hybrid model, which had never been⁤ used before, where his office would partner with Weiss’s office or take over the case completely. He consulted ‍with officials in his‍ office and requested their ‍recommendation‌ on how ⁢to ⁣proceed. After three ‌weeks of deliberation, Graves’s office ultimately decided not to partner with Weiss or ‌serve as⁤ local counsel ‌for the case.

The reasons ‌behind this decision ⁣were not disclosed due ⁤to the ongoing nature ‌of the investigation. However, Graves assured Congress that his office would still provide support to Weiss and that Weiss could still bring charges ⁣in Washington.

The leaked notes from whistleblowers at the IRS assert that Weiss told them ‌he was prevented from charging Hunter Biden in Washington ⁢because ⁤the “Biden-appointed‍ USA said they ⁤could⁤ not charge in his district.” This raises questions about political‍ influence and interference in the case.

Graves clarified that his office did not⁣ block Weiss from bringing charges‍ and emphasized that they took no steps⁤ to stop ⁤the ⁤investigation from moving forward. He did mention that Weiss needed approval from multiple offices, including the DOJ’s Tax Division, before ‍bringing charges in another district.

Attorney ‌General Merrick Garland has claimed that Weiss had the “ultimate charging authority,” but Weiss himself acknowledged that he needed‌ to ⁢request other⁤ U.S. attorneys ⁣to partner⁣ with him ⁢to bring charges outside of his‌ district.

The unanswered‌ questions‌ in‍ this ‌case and the potential political implications are concerning.
