out \u2064of a \u2064total of\u2064 130,970 deaths within that age group.<\/p>\n<p>By contrast, roughly 1.4 million deaths among\u200b those over\u200d 18 were attributed to COVID-19, out of a total number of \u2063around 15.2\u2063 million\u200c deaths due to all causes between 2020 and 2023, or \u2062roughly 8 percent.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/health\/long-covid-risks-have-been-exaggerated-by-misleading-data-new-analysis-5499751\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent analysis<\/a> suggests\u2064 distortion of \u200ddata on long COVID\u2062 and that undue\u200d alarm has been raised over symptoms \u2062that researchers say are common to other respiratory viruses.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>In \u2064a paper published in BMJ Evidence-Based Medicine (<a href=\"https:\/\/ebm.bmj.com\/content\/ebmed\/early\/2023\/08\/10\/bmjebm-2023-112338.full.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) on Sept. 25, researchers said high rates\u200c of long COVID continue to be reported in academic\u2062 journals, but these scientific publications are overestimating the prevalence of the condition due\u2063 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lawmakers-want-to-know-why-biden-made-it-easier-for-terrorists-to-enter-the-us\/\" title=\"Lawmakers Want To Know Why Biden Made It Easier for Terrorists To Enter the US\">overly broad definitions<\/a>, lack \u200bof proper control\u200d groups, \u2062and other methodological \u2062flaws.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The unintended consequences of distorted data about\u2062 long COVID\u200c may contribute\u200d to increased societal anxiety and health care spending, according to the researchers.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Other problems of exaggerated \u2063risks of long COVID include\u2063 a failure to diagnose treatable conditions misdiagnosed as long \u200cCOVID, as well as shifting of funds and awareness away from people actually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cdc-many-children-survived-covid-19-but-1-percent-got-long-covid\/\" title=\"CDC: Majority of Children Recovered from COVID-19, but 1% Experience 'Long COVID'\">experiencing chronic conditions \u2062brought<\/a> on by \u2062COVID-19.<\/p>\n<h2>More Details on CDC&#8217;s\u2064 Long COVID Studies<\/h2>\n<p>According to \u200cthe CDC study into long COVID in minors, older children were more\u200b likely to\u200d have experienced long COVID\u2014or had long COVID at the\u2063 time they were interviewed.<\/p>\n<p>Children aged\u2063 12\u201317 years were the group most likely (2.0 percent) to have had long COVID, followed by those aged 0\u20135 years (1.0 percent) \u200dand children aged 6\u201311\u2062 years (0.8 percent).<\/p>\n<p>The pattern was much the same \u2062for &#8220;current&#8221; long COVID, meaning those \u2062who reported having \u200dsymptoms that had persisted longer than three months when they were interviewed in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Those most likely to report having current long COVID \u200bwere children aged 12\u201317 years (0.8\u2062 percent), followed by those aged 6\u201311 years (0.3 percent)\u200c and 0\u20135 years (0.2 percent).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, \u200ddata from the Nationwide Commercial Laboratory Seroprevalence Survey show that, as of December 2022, 91.9 percent\u2063 of children had antibodies indicating \u200da previous COVID-19 infection.<\/p>\n<p>Broken down by \u200cage, it is estimated that 86.8 percent\u2064 of children ages 0\u20134 years had at one point been infected with COVID-19, with that figure growing to 93.5 percent in those ages 5\u201311 years, and 93.0 percent in those ages 12\u201317 years.<\/p>\n<p>There were also differences by age in the CDC&#8217;s adult long COVID study.<\/p>\n<p>Adults aged 35\u201349 (8.9 percent) were more likely than adults ages 18\u201334 (6.9 percent), 50\u201364 (7.6 percent), and 65 and older \u200b(4.1 percent) to have had long COVID at some point in their lives.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>More Federal Money for Long COVID<\/h2>\n<p>The CDC reports on long\u200c COVID come\u200c on the heels of an announcement by the federal \u200dgovernment to award some $45 million in grants \u200cto help clinics treating\u200b long COVID develop new models of care and expand access,\u2062 according to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).<\/p>\n<p>Nine clinics will receive $1 million grants annually over the next five years through the \u200bAgency \u2062for Healthcare Research and Quality within\u200c HHS, the department said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Biden-Harris \u2063Administration is supporting patients, doctors and caregivers by providing science-based best practices for treating long COVID, maintaining access to insurance coverage, and protecting the rights of workers as they return to jobs while coping with\u200b the \u200cuncertainties of their illness,&#8221; HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said in late September.<\/p>\n<p>The funding will be \u2062used for increasing in-person \u2063and\u200b virtual visits, establishing new satellite\u2062 clinics, and an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cdc-report-finds-potentially-millions-of-americans-have-long-covid\/\" title=\"CDC report: Millions of Americans may have Long COVID.\">education initiative aimed<\/a> at growing referrals. Limited knowledge and acceptance among clinicians has reportedly contributed to delays in\u200c diagnoses and referrals.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, a recent study has challenged the mainstream narrative that\u200b COVID-19 vaccinations reduce the risk of long COVID.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d study, which was carried out by researchers from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in Germany, found that previous infections reduced the risk\u2062 of long COVID by 86 \u2063percent. By contrast, \u200cvaccination status prior \u200cto COVID-19 infection was irrelevant to the risk of developing long COVID.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVaccination offered no \u200bmeaningful protection against developing\u2062 PCC [post-COVID condition] in case of an infection.
