The latest bill, Senate \u2063Bill 700, is \u200dawaiting approval from\u2063 Governor Gavin Newsom and \u200caims to make it illegal for employers to inquire about\u2064 an applicant&#8217;s\u200d previous cannabis use.<\/p>\n<p>Authored by Senator Steven Bradford, SB 700 builds \u200dupon existing legislation that already prohibits employers\u2063 from \u2062discriminating against individuals based on their past cannabis use. If an \u200cemployee tests positive for cannabis indicating current impairment, the employer can decide the \u2064appropriate consequences, if any, according to a Senate analysis.<\/p>\n<p>The current law also protects individuals who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/are-covid-case-surges-more-fake-news\/\" title=\"Are COVID Case Surges More Fake News?\">test positive<\/a> for nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites, which \u2064can be detected up to 10 days after marijuana use. This will ensure that individuals are not unfairly excluded from job opportunities simply because \u2063they have used cannabis in\u2064 the past.
