Kelly specifically mentioned Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who said Israel\u2019s response to\u2062 the attack is \u201ccollective punishment\u201d and\u200b \u201ca war crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsrael unilaterally pulled out of \u200dthe Gaza Strip in \u2063an attempt to create some sort\u2063 of security arrangement, presumably protect the Jews at the northern tip of the Gaza Strip, and allow the Palestinians \u200bsome chance at electing a government,\u201d Shapiro said, referring to the pullout in 2005. \u201cThey then promptly\u2064 elected Hamas, a State Department-designated terror group in an election\u2063 that was fully legitimate as attested to by [former U.S. President] Jimmy\u2063 Carter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the attempt to tie \u200dthis to \u2062settlements is insane,\u201d Shapiro\u2063 said, \u201cbecause again, there are no settlements inside the Gaza Strip. The areas that were attacked [in Israel] have been part of the \u200cstate of\u2064 Israel since 1948. This is not\u2064 post-1967 settlements in the West Bank \u2014 in the so-called West Bank; Judea and Samaria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The conservative went on to discuss the historical dynamic between Hamas and Israel, emphasizing that Hamas is in no way a \u201cpeace partner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsrael, \u200cby the way, has been providing electricity for free to this area,\u201d he said. \u2064\u201cIsrael has been providing water to this area; Israel ships in humanitarian goods to this area; Israel over the last \u200cyear has provided 15,000 [work permits] \u2014 a lot of people are on work permits inside Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey wanted a sewage system in the Gaza Strip and\u2062 so pipes were shipped into the Gaza\u200c Strip. \u200bHamas\u2062 promptly took \u2063those\u200d pipes \u200band\u2063 repurposed them into the body of rockets, into rocket tubes,\u201d the 39-year-old said. \u2064\u201cThe cement that is poured into \u200cthe Gaza Strip to \u200bbuild infrastructure was used by Hamas to build terror tunnels. And this, this is what Hamas does. I mean, they overtly\u200d say this in their charter. Again, \u200bit\u2019s not as though\u200c they\u2019re hiding the ball. There are no secrets here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHamas hides behind civilians,\u201d Shapiro asserted. \u201cHamas literally places its headquarters, its military headquarters, \u200dunderneath a hospital. I \u200bmean, imagine if the United States put its Pentagon beneath a hospital, \u200bdeliberately, in order to maximize\u200c civilian casualties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shapiro said Israel\u2064 routinely warns people to get out of areas, military targets the nation is about to strike, in an\u2062 attempt to minimize civilian\u200d deaths, despite Hamas\u2019 own \u200cstrategic locations \u2063near civilians. \u201cThere\u2019s tape of them \u2062calling members of Hamas \u200band saying, get everybody \u2064out of this building,\u200b and members of Hamas saying, we don\u2019t want them out of the \u200cbuilding, we want them in the building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the whole point,\u201d he \u200dcontinued. \u201cWhy do you think that \u200dwe are\u2063 locating a rocket fire from inside apartment\u200d buildings and behind\u200b apartment buildings?
