These \u200dtours are a \u200bresponse to the efforts by parents and red \u2064states \u200dto remove\u2062 inappropriate books from children&#8217;s shelves and classrooms. In celebration of #BannedBooksWeek, the bookmobiles are hitting the road to distribute copies of\u200d these books in the most affected communities. But here&#8217;s the twist: anyone anywhere in the country can buy these &#8220;banned&#8221; books.<\/p>\n<p>One \u2062of these self-described &#8220;bold new \u2062initiatives to combat censorship and celebrate the First Amendment&#8221; \u2063will be touring through Oct. 28. To fight against the new laws \u200cand regulations limiting the kinds\u2064 of books \u2063kids can access, \u2064one bookmobile\u200c is handing out books like &#8220;Pride: \u200bThe Story \u2064of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow \u2063Flag,&#8221; &#8220;I Am Jazz,&#8221; \u2063and &#8220;How to Be an \u200bAntiracist&#8221; \u2014\u2064 all of which are readily available on Amazon to\u200d be shipped directly to your\u2063 door overnight.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Concerned parents and\u2063 lawmakers have contested the content of these\u200d books that leftist activists now characterize as &#8220;banned.&#8221; Some \u200bhave\u200b been moved from\u200b children&#8217;s shelves due to pornographic\u2063 imagery, while others have been\u2064 taken \u2063out of classrooms due to divisive ideologies. The nuance and maturity these &#8220;banned&#8221;\u2064 books demand are at\u2062 the crux of the\u200c issue, but the ALA and affiliate sponsors insist these books should remain accessible to\u200d children of any \u200bage in libraries and\u200c classrooms on taxpayers&#8217; dime.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>The talking points \u2064reiterated on the \u2063left are all \u2063about &#8220;MAGA Republicans&#8221; and \u200chow \u200bthey love to &#8220;ban books.&#8221; The painfully obvious irony is that if these books were truly banned,\u200d this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-mixes-up-media-strategy-in-hope-of-closing-trump-gap\/\" title=\"DeSantis alters media approach to narrow Trump gap.\">book \u200dtour<\/a> would be impossible. Conflating\u200c the regulation of child-appropriate content\u200b in\u2063 public schools with mass\u2064 book \u2064banning and censorship is dishonest \u2062at best.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This \u200dis\u200d a dangerous time\u200b for readers and the public \u2064servants who provide access to reading materials,&#8221; said ALA Director for Intellectual Freedom Deborah Caldwell-Stone. &#8220;Readers, particularly students, \u200dare losing access to \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-to-show-lockdowns-are-killing-more-people-than-the-virus\/\" title=\"How To Show Lockdowns Are Killing More People Than The Virus\">critical information<\/a>, and librarians\u200b and teachers\u200d are under attack for doing their jobs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Therein lies one major\u200b problem: the\u200c idea that it is the job of\u2062 librarians\u2062 and teachers to provide\u200d obscene imagery or\u2063 transgender confusion \u200bfor children and otherwise steep them in \u2064the left&#8217;s sexual and \u2062racial orthodoxy. This oversimplification of the issue undermines the legitimate concerns held by \u200dparents and lawmakers who\u2064 simply want to ensure that their\u2064 children are not exposed to explicit content or divisive ideologies at a young age.<\/p>\n<p>It \u200dis disingenuous to suggest \u200bthat the availability of these \u200bbooks on platforms like Amazon invalidates the concerns of parents. The fact that parents can choose \u200dto \u2062purchase these books\u200b and have them shipped directly to their homes does not undermine the importance of \u200cage-appropriate content in libraries and classrooms.
