Besides regularly deploying \u2064new fighters and drones, it has expanded three airports in Longtian, Hui&#8217;an, and Zhangzhou along \u200dthe coast of Fujian facing Taiwan. Among the\u2062 three, Longtian Airport is only \u2063250 kilometers (255 miles) away from Taipei.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Affairs Ely Ratner \u200dreiterated the U.S. position when asked at a think \u200btank\u200b seminar in Washington on Oct. 5 whether\u2062 China might invade Taiwan\u200c and the possible timetable. He \u200bsaid,\u2063 \u201cConflict\u2062 in the \u200cIndo-Pacific region\u2064 is neither imminent nor inevitable, because deterrence \u200cis \u200dreal and strong today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Military commentator Shen Zhou \u200btold \u2064The Epoch Times\u2062 that the CCP\u2019s current military capability is not enough to capture Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>Wang Juntao, co-chairman of the \u200cNational Committee of the China Democratic Party who currently resides\u200c in the United States, told The Epoch Times on Oct. 6 that he\u2063 thinks Mr. Xi won\u2019t attack Taiwan in \u200cthe short term because he is busy conducting a large-scale purge in the military and the \u2062CCP\u2019s own military morale is low.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Xi Jinping] \u2062 doesn\u2019t want to provoke a war now and cause the whole Western\u2063 world\u200b to\u2064 impose immediate sanctions on China.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\">\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Taiwan forces conducted live-fire war games in its biggest annual military exercise on May 25, 2017, presided by President Tsai Ing-wen, as the \u200bisland faces a \u200dgrowing threat from its cross-strait rival \u2064China. (Sam Yeh\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>However, in light of the CCP\u2019s recent emphasis on increasing cross-strait economic\u200c and \u2063social integration, Mr. Wang warns that the\u200c outside \u2062world, especially Taiwan, needs to\u2062 be more vigilant about the CCP\u2019s covert operations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Xi Jinping wants to defeat Taiwan without a\u200b fight. Attacking Taiwan would be politically uneconomical for him, as he knows now the CCP \u2063is not \u200bstrong enough, and attacking Taiwan will lead to a complete blockade of China.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    He believes that Mr. Xi\u2019s next move must\u200d be to improve Sino\u2013U.S. relations.<\/p>\n<h2>Covert Warfare<\/h2>\n<p>    \u200c    Mr. Wang pointed out that during China\u2019s civil war (1945-1949), the CCP\u2019s Army had two main methods of fighting. \u201cOne was to draw out the Nationalist government&#8217;s main forces to fight. The \u2063other, which\u200c is the most important\u200c method, was to plant secret CCP members in \u2064the nationalist-controlled \u200dbig cities, \u200crecruiting more \u200bmembers and developing networks. Then they engaged in a coordinated campaign of sabotage, such as occupying power\u200c stations\u200b and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-fla-authorities-investigating-hack-on-pinellas-county-water-supply\/\" title=\"FBI, Fla. authorities investigating hack on Pinellas County water supply\">water supply systems<\/a>, etc. to terrorize people behind the front\u200c line. (Li Bingyu\/Xinhua via AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>He continued: \u201cIf the CCP \u200dwants to attack Taiwan, it must first use non-military means to develop secret CCP party organizations \u2064in Taiwan.\u2064 When its troops start to attack Taiwan, these organizations can start to do things for them inside the island, such \u200cas form assault groups to\u200d occupy\u2063 some places or set fire to key facilities, to create some chaos from behind. Then the military \u200con the front line will collapse, because they will feel\u2063 that something has \u200dhappened and they\u2019ve already lost.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    \u200d   \u201cSo now \u200bmany people are talking about the U.S. military&#8217;s style of \u2062fighting a war, such \u2062as the regular positional warfare, but it\u2019s not how the CCP fights.&#8221;<br \/>\n \u2063<\/p>\n<h2>Infiltration<\/h2>\n<p>    On Oct. 3, Chairman Lin Te-wang and\u200c Vice Chairman Cheng Chien-hsin of the\u2063 &#8220;Taiwan People&#8217;s Communist \u200bParty&#8221; were accused of accepting\u200d financial aid from officials of\u200c the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CCP in an attempt to influence Taiwan&#8217;s elections and promote communist ideology. These two have been \u200cindicted by the Taipei District\u2064 Prosecutor&#8217;s Office for breaching the Anti-infiltration Act and the Civil Servants Election \u2064and Recall\u2063 Act.\n  <\/p><\/div>\n<p>Taiwan has \u2064just unveiled its first domestically built submarine, as part of the\u2063 indigenous submarine program. Meanwhile, it\u2019s revealed that Kuomintang legislator\u200c Ma\u2062 Wen-chun was accused of attempting to block the submarine \u2064program and \u200bleaking more than 3,000 \u200cconfidential files on submarines to South Korean officials. As \u2062a result, several engineers who secretly assisted Taiwan in building submarines were arrested and sentenced after returning\u2062 to South Korea. (Sam Yeh\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Former naval adviser for Taiwan Guo Xi also revealed \u200con a \u200clive \u200cbroadcast that Ms. Ma also sent sensitive submarine information to \u2064the\u2062 Chinese Embassy.<\/p>\n<p>Former Taiwan Air Force Deputy Commander and retired Lieutenant General Chang Yanting\u2064 told The Epoch Times on \u2062Oct. 7 that Taiwan has indeed been deceived\u2064 by the CCP in many aspects.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The CCP is following a step-by-step approach, whether it is the united front \u2063strategy, dividing Taiwan society, or military pressure, which is quite worrying.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said that Taiwan&#8217;s main problem is psychological defense, not national defense, because without psychological defense, there is no national defense.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The \u200cCCP\u2019s military \u2064is\u2063 already in the\u200b middle line of the Taiwan Strait, and everyone is used to it. The most terrifying thing is that everyone has accepted this fact, and not to strongly oppose \u2063it, giving up\u2062 resistance. We often talk about how we need\u2063 to strengthen our citizens\u2019 defense mentality.
