Rep. Jim\u200c Jordan of\u2063 Ohio is\u200c the \u2064only other Republican who \u200bhas \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wow-big-name-republican-declares-candidacy-speaker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> a\u200b bid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u200b want to be the nominee, but \u2063I\u2019ll support the nominee,\u201d Scalise told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2023\/10\/06\/congress\/newsy-scalise-interview-00120431\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump has\u200b also been floated as \u200ca contender for the role.\u200b He has said he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-says-accept-house-speakership-1-condition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">would accept<\/a> the speakership on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/unaccompanied-children-suffer-mental-distress-at-fort-bliss-facility-watchdog\/\" title=\"Unaccompanied Children Suffer Mental Distress at Fort Bliss Facility: Watchdog\">short-term basis<\/a> but officially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-breaks-silence-lawmaker-won-complete-total-endorsement-speaker-role\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">endorsed Jordan<\/a> \u2064on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican House members will choose\u2062 their nominee by majority vote on Wednesday, and then the full House will pick the\u200c speaker. Ideally, the nominee will be able to count \u200bon \u2064most if not all of the GOP conference to back him over the Democratic alternative.<\/p>\n<p>The hope for Republicans is clearly to avoid the \u206415-round spectacle it took to elect Rep. Kevin McCarthy\u2064 speaker in January.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/matt-gaetz-goes-off-speaking-media-kevin-mccarthy-ousting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matt Gaetz<\/a> of Florida, who successfully brought the motion to vacate the \u200dspeaker\u2019s chair this week, said he would be fine with \u200ceither Jordan or Scalise\u200c replacing McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>He told Newsmax on Wednesday that he nominated Jordan\u2062 as speaker in January, and that Scalise is a \u201cgreat guy\u201d whom he \u200bcould also vote for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it\u2019s Speaker Jim Jordan or Speaker \u2064Steve Scalise, there will be very \u2062few conservatives in the country who don\u2019t see that as a monumental upgrade over \u200bSpeaker McCarthy,\u201d Gaetz said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cI know this, if it\u2019s Speaker Jim Jordan \u2063or Speaker Steve Scalise there will be very few conservatives in the country who\u2063 don\u2019t see \u2064that as a monumental upgrade over Speaker McCarthy.\u201d \u2014\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepMattGaetz?\">@RepMattGaetz<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BiancaDLGarza?\">@BiancaDLGarza<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iHhdCo4ISp\">pic.twitter.com\/iHhdCo4ISp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NEWSMAX (@NEWSMAX) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NEWSMAX\/status\/1709612824538808828?\">October 4, \u20632023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Gaetz, along with seven <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/newt-gingrich-calls-8-republicans-traitors-driven-public-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">other Republicans<\/a>,\u200d joined all the House Democrats\u200b to remove McCarthy as speaker on Tuesday. The final vote was <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/evs\/2023\/roll519.xml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">216-210<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Scalise, who is more centrist than Jordan, is apparently someone \u200cGaetz, and likely\u200c those \u200dwho voted with him\u2063 to \u200doust McCarthy,\u200c believe\u2064 they can trust \u2062as an honest broker.<\/p>\n<p>Scalise told Politico that he believes he can help rival factions\u200c of\u200b the GOP come\u200b together. He spoke of no retaliation against Gaetz or \u200dthe other members who voted to remove McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, the \u200dconversations right now are: How do we get back on \u2063track?
