Trump is involved, \u2063however,\u2063 the media\u200c apparatus\u200b couldn\u2019t be more in unison when it comes to \u200bclamoring\u2064 about the unfairness of it all.<\/p>\n<p>In\u2062 a <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/10-5-2023-Coalition-Application-for-Audiovisual-Access-of-US-v-Trump-Court-Stamped.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brief<\/a> filed on Thursday, a whole \u200chost\u2064 of broadcasters\u2062 and media outlets \u2014 \u2062ABC \u2063News, the Los Angeles Times, Univision, The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wapo-columnist-storms-off-confronted-evidence-biden-knew-participated-sons-shady-business-deals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington \u200cPost<\/a>, Politico, C-SPAN\u200b and a \u200cmultitude of others \u2062\u2014 \u201crespectfully submit[ted] this Application\u200c for leave to \u200brecord and\u200d telecast the March 2024 \u200dcriminal trial of former\u2063 President Donald J. Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlternatively, the Media Coalition respectfully requests \u200bthat \u2064the\u2063 Court that the Court contemporaneously publish on YouTube its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/news-outlets-clamoring-for-cameras-in-federal-courtroom-at-trumps-election-interference-trial\/\" title=\"News outlets demand cameras in federal courtroom for Trump's <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/twitter-trolls-election-interference-trial-delayed-after-alleged-witness-intimidation\/\" title=\"Twitter troll's election interference trial delayed after alleged witness intimidation\">election interference trial<\/a>.&#8221;>internally administered audiovisual livestreams<\/a> and recordings of the proceedings,\u201d the filing read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a final alternative,\u200c the\u2064 Media \u2064Coalition respectfully requests that the Court release visual and audio recordings of proceedings at the conclusion \u200cof\u2062 each \u2062day that\u2063 this mater is heard in Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062reason given in the\u2063 application, of\u2064 course, is the\u200c historic nature of \u200da former\u2064 president and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/washington-post-disavows-biden-trump-showdown-poll-results-show-45-uncomfortably-strong-lead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">current front-runner<\/a> \u200bfor the GOP nomination in 2024 being put \u200don\u2064 trial\u2062 effectively for his actions leading up \u200dto the Capitol incursion on \u200cJan. 6, \u200b2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u200c have\u200d never, in the\u200b history of our Nation, had a federal criminal \u2062trial that warrants audiovisual \u200baccess\u200b more \u2064than the \u200dfederal prosecution of former President Trump for allegedly trying to\u200c subvert the will of the people,\u201d\u2063 the brief read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe prosecution of a former president, now a presidential contender, on charges of subverting the electoral process, presents the strongest possible circumstances for continuous public oversight of the justice system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However,\u2064 as\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/4242098-trump-election-trial-cameras-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hill<\/a> \u200bnoted, this is essentially \u201casking for an \u200bunprecedented shift in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/army-vet-plans-to-appeal-ninth-circuit-ruling-against-gun-carry\/\" title=\"Army Vet Plans to Appeal Ninth Circuit Ruling Against Gun Carry\">federal court system<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLong-standing federal court\u2064 precedent \u2063bars televising the hearings\u200d or recording them in any fashion,\u201d the outlet noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome\u2063 lawmakers have pushed for a change in federal court system rules that prohibit the practice, but such a process would likely take years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And since \u201cyears\u201d\u2062 clearly \u200bisn\u2019t going to\u200d happen before March 4, the \u2063so-called \u2063Media Coalition is \u200dgoing \u200dto bang on about\u2063 the \u2062momentous nature of\u200b the \u2064event.<\/p>\n<p>Steven \u2063Brill, who founded Court TV and now serves as co-CEO \u2062of media\u200c ratings \u200dsystem <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fact-checkers-conspiring-pentagon-get-bad-news-house-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NewsGuard<\/a>, said televising the trial would stop malinformation,\u200d misinformation, disinformation and cisinformation\u200d from taking \u2062hold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think what we\u2019ve \u200bseen for the last\u200d X number \u200bof years is that people are not debating from \u200cthe same set of facts,\u201d Brill told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/08\/08\/1192634034\/longtime-media-watcher-explains-why-trumps-federal-trial-should-be-televised\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR<\/a>.\u200b \u201cEverything\u2019s an opinion. \u200bNothing\u2019s a fact. Nobody believes \u200danything.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat you see online, you have no idea how credible it \u200cis, who the source is, who\u2019s paying them to say something\u200c \u2013 \u2063the total opposite of\u2064 what happens in a courtroom, where all the \u2063evidence is vetted, lawyers are bound by standards of \u2064conduct where\u200b they\u200c can\u2019t just voice\u200c their\u2064 opinions,\u201d Brill said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey can\u2019t introduce hearsay or \u200crumors. That\u2019s what \u200dthe world needs to see in this trial\u2062 because we\u2019re going \u200dto be debating this trial forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How having\u200b a \u200ccamera in a \u2064courtroom is going to stop people from\u200b having an opinion about the proceedings\u2062 is anyone\u2019s guess; whatever happens will invariably be \u2064filtered through the \u200bmedia\u2063 organs that Brill surveys, none of which \u2014 save\u2063 perhaps <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/matt-gaetz-just-sneaked-something-rules-package-make-c-span-entertaining\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">C-SPAN<\/a> \u2014 can truly claim even \u200ban attempt at non-partisanship, much\u200d less actual\u200d objectivity.<\/p>\n<p>Brill also argued that \u201ctrials, as a general matter, you know, constitutionally, were always meant to be public.\u201d Which it will be: just likely \u2062without cameras in\u200c the courtroom. Given that this\u2062 is the\u200b first federal trial that would be streamed or \u200crecorded, this is hardly how it was \u201calways meant\u201d to be.<\/p>\n<p>The Media Coalition, meanwhile, says that the ban on cameras\u2062 relies on \u201coutdated and long disproven views about recording \u2063and broadcasting trials\u201d \u2014 something\u200b few if any of these media organs\u2064 go to \u2063court to challenge on any \u200csort of regular basis, so there\u2019s that.<\/p>\n<p>Only the momentous and consequential nature of putting a former\u200c president on trial \u200bmakes these arguments even \u2064slightly holds up\u200b \u2014 and then, you have to consider the \u2063why behind this all.<\/p>\n<p>When\u2064 it comes\u2064 to the potential\u00a0 divisiveness \u2062and media spectacle of\u2062 a televised trial event, particularly when sociopolitical aspect is in play, \u2063some of us are\u2064 old enough to remember the 11 months between November of 1994 and October \u200cof\u2064 1995 \u2064when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-oj-simpson-torched-making-9-11-joke-aaron-rodgers-injury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Orenthal James Simpson<\/a> was on trial \u200bfor allegedly murdering \u2062his ex-wife and a waiter. O.J. was a football player and rental-car\u200d pitchman; Donald Trump \u2062is a candidate for president of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200bsaturating the airwaves with coverage\u200d of the trial,\u200c it\u2019s obvious to all but the most na\u00efve that \u2062the \u200bmedia aims\u200c to use the coverage to affix the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ted-cruz-warns-dream-scenario-democrats-trump-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">criminal label\u2062 to Trump<\/a> no matter what the\u2063 jury finds. This has as little to do\u200d with transparency as it does with a narrative \u2014 a narrative that can be crafted without \u2063cameras in the\u2063 courtroom.<\/p>\n<p>This has nothing to do with, as\u200d the \u200dMedia Coalition claimed in its filing, \u201ca critical step in\u200c stemming \u200cfalse conspiracy\u2062 theories across the\u200c entire spectrum of\u2063 public opinion, regardless\u200c of the outcome\u2062 of the trial.\u201d\u200b It has everything to do with politics \u200das \u200centertainment\u200c and \u2063that entertainment \u2063fitting the conception of Trump they\u2019ve already \u200destablished.
