She said she had the prescription filled at a CVS pharmacy in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<p>But very soon, she said, she realized something was wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started cramping really bad,\u201d Thomas said. \u201cIt was extreme. It was painful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She checked the label on the bottle she had been issued by the pharmacy and looked up the drug on the internet. She said she was horrified at what she learned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first thing I read is it\u2019s used for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/planned-parenthood-abortions-unborn-murdering-giant-disturbing-new-cash-cow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortions<\/a>,\u201d she told the news outlet.<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>KLAS cited documents showing that \u201ctwo technicians and two pharmacists made a series of errors that led to Thomas being given the wrong medication, which essentially terminated her budding pregnancy on the spot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne technician \u2013 incorrectly believing she knew the generic name for the brand prescribed by the doctor \u2013 entered the wrong name into the prescription,\u201d the outlet reported. \u201cOne pharmacist did not catch the error, and another pharmacist failed to counsel Thomas when she came to pick up her medication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomas filed a complaint with the Nevada State Board of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/towns-pharmacy-bills-secretly-paid-years-hero-behind-revealed-blessing-lord\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pharmacy<\/a>, which met in September, and testified about the incident.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, KLAS reported, the board fined the two pharmacists and provisionally suspended their licenses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf both pharmacists avoid disciplinary action over the next 12 months, pay fines and take continuing education credits, their licenses will be reinstated,\u201d KLAS reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll I got was a sorry,\u201d Thomas said. \u201cIt will never be good enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.8newsnow.com\/investigators\/how-could-this-happen-prescription-incident-leads-to-termination-of-womans-in-vitro-fertilization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">follow-up story<\/a> on the incident, KLAS reported that the pharmacists accepted blame for the deadly mix-up, but one of them pointed to corporate practices by CVS that set the stage for such a mistake to happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe told the board that CVS pressured her to meet certain \u2018metrics\u2019 and reduced staff while increasing the workload,\u201d KLAS reported. \u201cShe said she was overwhelmed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was not a place that I really felt was safe to work in,\u201d the pharmacist told the board. \u201cEven if you had brought up concerns about it, there was not really anything that ever changed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similar complaints were voiced in late September when CVS pharmacists walked off the job in Kansas City, \u201cresorting to a drastic form of protest to highlight what they say are unsafe and stressful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/warning-federal-authorities-suspect-5000-pilots-hiding-serious-health-conditions-unfit-fly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">work conditions<\/a> tied to a widespread lack of proper staffing,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/09\/29\/1202365487\/cvs-pharmacists-walkout-protest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCVS has cut back on staffing, including less time for technicians to assist pharmacists, even as the demand for prescriptions and vaccines grow, the protesters say,\u201d according to NPR.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/investigations\/2023\/09\/27\/cvs-pharmacists-plan-walk-out-again\/70974522007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a> reported that up to 22 stores in the Kansas City area were impacted by the walkout.<\/p>\n<p>CVS chief pharmacy officer Prem Shah issued a memo to Kansas City staff to address the concerns, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to apologize to our pharmacy teams that we haven\u2019t addressed these concerns in the region more quickly,\u201d Shah wrote in the memo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the currently unprecedented demand for vaccinations from our patients in mind, we are taking a series of actions effective immediately,\u201d Shah continued.<\/p>\n<p>He pledged to provide
