Eric Burlison of Missouri, some of his fellow lawmakers are so terrified \u200dof the rampant crime in Washington, D.C. that they resort to sleeping in their offices\u2064 to avoid being attacked or murdered on the \u2064streets.<\/p>\n<p>Burlison made these shocking revelations during an interview with radio host\u2063 Todd Starnes on his popular podcast.<\/p>\n<p>Starnes brought up the recent incident where Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas was robbed and carjacked at gunpoint in the\u200c Navy \u200cYard neighborhood, where many members of Congress reside.<\/p>\n<p>Curious about the safety situation \u2064in Washington, Starnes asked Burlison, &#8220;How\u200c dangerous is it in Washington?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Burlison&#8217;s response was alarming: &#8220;It\u2019s very \u2063dangerous.\u2062 I mean, it\u2019s insane to even own a car in D.C. because wherever you park, it is going to \u200ccost you a fortune and it\u2019s likely to get broken into and you\u2019re likely to get carjacked.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The congressman went on to explain that they have to take security precautions, including sleeping in their offices in\u2062 the Capitol building. &#8220;It\u2019s a security calculation to actually \u2063sleep in your\u2064 office,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Starnes, clearly taken aback, asked for \u2062clarification: &#8220;You\u2019re telling me that it\u2019s so dangerous in Washington that some of\u2064 these lawmakers are actually sleeping in their offices?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Burlison confirmed, saying, &#8220;Yeah.\u200d I mean, Todd, I don\u2019t want to walk back and forth from an\u200d apartment in\u2062 D.C. at night or in the early morning to get to work. Mike Lee last night was tweeting that maybe it\u2019s time to take back\u2062 control of \u2063the district.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Burlison placed the blame for the rampant lawlessness on &#8220;progressive leftists&#8221; who advocate for soft-on-crime policies.<\/p>\n<p>The crime\u2064 situation in Washington, D.C. is reflective of a disturbing trend seen in other Democrat-run cities like Philadelphia, New York, San Francisco, and Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>According \u200cto the Metropolitan Police Department, violent crimes \u200bin\u200d Washington have increased by \u200b40 percent compared to the previous \u2064year, with robberies up by 70 percent, homicides up by 38\u2062 percent, and car theft up\u2062 by \u200da staggering 105 percent.<\/p>\n<p>It is disheartening to see that even our elected officials\u200d are not safe from crime.
