Eric Burlison\u2063 of Missouri, some of\u200b his fellow lawmakers are so\u2062 terrified of the rampant crime in Washington, D.C. that \u2064they\u200b resort to sleeping in their offices to avoid\u200d being attacked or murdered\u2063 on the streets.<\/p>\n<p>Burlison made \u200cthese shocking revelations during an\u2062 interview with radio host \u2062Todd\u2064 Starnes on his popular podcast.<\/p>\n<p>Starnes \u200bbrought up the recent incident where Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas \u200dwas\u200b robbed \u200dand carjacked at gunpoint in the\u200d Navy\u200d Yard neighborhood, where many \u2062members of Congress reside.<\/p>\n<p>Curious about\u2063 the safety \u2062situation in \u2063Washington, Starnes \u200casked \u2063Burlison, &#8220;How dangerous is it in Washington?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Burlison&#8217;s\u2062 response was alarming: &#8220;It\u2019s very\u2062 dangerous. I mean, it\u2019s\u2064 insane to even own a\u2062 car in D.C. \u2063because \u2062wherever you park, it is going to cost you a fortune and it\u2019s likely to get broken \u200binto \u2063and you\u2019re likely\u2064 to \u2063get carjacked.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The congressman went on to explain that they have to take security precautions, including sleeping in \u2063their offices\u200c in the Capitol building.\u200c &#8220;It\u2019s\u2062 a security calculation to \u2064actually sleep in your office,&#8221;\u200d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Starnes, clearly \u200btaken aback, asked\u2064 for clarification: &#8220;You\u2019re telling me that it\u2019s so dangerous in Washington that some of these lawmakers \u200dare actually sleeping in their \u200boffices?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Burlison confirmed, saying, &#8220;Yeah. I mean, Todd, I don\u2019t want to \u2064walk back and forth from an\u2062 apartment \u200din\u2064 D.C.\u200b at\u200d night or\u2062 in the early morning to get to\u2064 work. It\u2019s not a safe environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The \u200cfact that lawmakers themselves fear \u2062becoming\u200d victims of crime \u200din the nation&#8217;s capital is a \u200cglaring irony \u2064that is \u2064hard\u200b to ignore.<\/p>\n<p>One\u2063 would expect the epicenter of national politics to be one of the safest\u2062 places in the country. However, the current state of affairs under President Joe Biden has allowed this \u200csituation to persist.<\/p>\n<p>Starnes expressed his \u2063shock, saying,\u2062 &#8220;I think I have to imagine people listening \u2064to this, congressman, are \u2063just dumbfounded that things are that bad in Washington, D.C. I know\u200c Sen. \u200cMike Lee last night\u200b was tweeting that\u2062 maybe it\u2019s time to take back control of the\u2064 district.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Burlison \u2062placed the blame for \u2064the rampant \u200clawlessness on &#8220;progressive leftists&#8221; who advocate \u2064for\u2062 soft-on-crime policies.<\/p>\n<p>Crime in Washington, D.C. \u2063has skyrocketed,\u2063 following a \u200bdisturbing\u200b trend seen in other Democrat-run cities like Philadelphia, New York,\u200c San Francisco, and \u200cChicago.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Metropolitan Police Department, violent\u2064 crimes in \u200cWashington\u200c have increased by \u200d40 percent\u200d compared to the previous year, \u200cwith robberies up \u200bby 70 percent and homicides up by 38 percent.\u200b Car \u200ctheft has risen \u2063a staggering 105 percent.<\/p>\n<p>It is\u2062 disheartening to see that \u2062even our elected officials are \u2064not safe from crime.
