Matt Gaetz joined forces with fellow \u200bRepublicans and House Democrats to remove Kevin McCarthy\u2063 from the speakership, the leftists\u200c at <a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/article\/175979\/hakeem-jeffries-house-speaker-dare-say-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New Republic<\/a> are feeling\u200d a surge of\u200c excitement. They may have bitten off more\u2063 than they can chew.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSpeaker\u200b Hakeem Jeffries: three words that have \u200bmany Democrats salivating on television and\u200b in the halls of\u200c the \u200bCapitol as House Republicans remain in total disarray,\u201d wrote\u200d Capitol Hill reporter Pablo Manr\u00edquez before \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-salivating-at-possibility-one-of-their-own-becomes-speaker\/\" title=\"Democrats eagerly anticipating one of their own as Speaker.\">finally conceding \u2014 19 paragraphs<\/a> into a 19-paragraph\u2064 piece \u2014\u200c that the \u201cmost likely\u201d scenario is that Jeffries can\u2019t garner the\u200c votes to ascend to the role.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Next \u200dweek, when the House reconvenes to hear from candidates for the position and hold multiple ballots, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/government-employees-sue-biden-yellen-to-force-override-of-debt-ceiling\/\" title=\"Gov't workers sue Biden, Yellen to lift debt ceiling.\">outcome remains uncertain<\/a>. Never before in American history has a speaker \u2062been removed \u200bby fellow House members, let alone had a motion \u2064filed against them.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz, frustrated by McCarthy&#8217;s collaboration with Democrats, worked with all House Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-mccarthy-removed-historic-vote-1st-time-house-speaker-voted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to \u200boust\u200c him<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So, what happens now? That&#8217;s the question on everyone&#8217;s mind.\u200c The current frontrunners for the position are Reps. \u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/speaker-house-race-takes-shape-2nd-prominent-republican-announces-candidacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steve Scalise<\/a> and\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wow-big-name-republican-declares-candidacy-speaker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jim Jordan<\/a>, but\u2063 it&#8217;s unclear \u200bif either of them \u200dhas enough votes to\u2063 win on the first \u200cballot.<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Rep. Gerry Connolly believes Jeffries has a slim chance, even in a Republican-controlled House. Assuming\u2062 all 212 Democrats vote the same way, Jeffries would only need five Republicans to secure the \u2062position.<\/p>\n<p>While this \u2063scenario seems unlikely, given the possibility of\u2064 additional motions to vacate, it&#8217;s important \u200bto remember that we are in uncharted territory.
