Ron DeSantis Takes Aim at Trump in Fiery Campaign Event

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) didn’t hold back in his ⁤latest campaign event, where he once again targeted former President Donald Trump. This time, DeSantis focused on the 2020 elections, criticizing his top GOP rival for energizing ‌Democrats.

“People will act‍ like ⁣2020, they’re like, you know, Biden was ⁢such a disaster but here’s the thing. I don’t think anybody voted for Biden, OK, they were voting against Trump. That was why ‍they did it,”‍ DeSantis said. “I mean, let’s‌ just‍ be honest, he energized Democrats.

“You could have John Kennedy walk through the ‌door right now and he wouldn’t energize Democrats as much as⁣ Donald Trump does. That’s just⁣ the reality,” the governor added about the popular ⁢former Democratic president.

DeSantis has been vocal about his ability to defeat President Joe Biden in⁣ the upcoming elections, using Trump’s 2020 loss and legal troubles as evidence. He also highlights his youth compared to Biden and Trump as a testament to his stamina for⁣ a two-term presidency. At ‌the Tampa event, DeSantis emphasized his legislative victories in Florida.

“What did we do in Florida with these Democrats? We defeated these Democrats. We left the Democratic Party in Florida, in a pile of ruins.⁤ They’re dead,” DeSantis‌ proudly declared, earning applause from the crowd.

Furthermore, DeSantis highlighted the Republican voter registration advantage under his leadership, a significant shift from past years when Democrats outnumbered Republicans in Florida.

“By the time I got reelected⁣ in November, we had 300,000 more⁣ Republicans than Democrats and we never had more Rs than Ds in Florida history,” ‍he explained. “But here’s the best part of that 300,000 advantage. Today that advantage is 600,000. We’ve added another 300,000 advantage in one⁤ year. I mean, are you ⁣kidding me?”

When⁤ asked if he had more support in Florida than Trump, ⁣DeSantis confidently ‍responded, “Well he won by three, I won by 20. So I don’t know what you think is better.” The ⁤crowd erupted in approval.

Read more:

CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER

Is there evidence to suggest that Trump’s divisive ⁢style and controversial statements‌ turned ‌away moderate ‌voters?

Know, we couldn’t have ‌won ⁢without energizing ⁢Democrats. I’m like, ⁢really? The ⁣Democrats were voting for us? I ⁢don’t think so,” DeSantis said at the event. ⁣He⁣ went⁣ on to express his belief that Trump’s divisive rhetoric actually motivated ⁣Democrats to ⁣come out and ‍vote against him and other Republicans.

This is not the first time DeSantis has taken aim at⁣ Trump, as some Republicans have started to distance themselves from the former president since the January ⁣6th Capitol riot. DeSantis has been positioning himself ‌as a possible contender ⁢for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination and has been strategically appealing to a broader base of voters.

While‌ some ‌Republicans still strongly support Trump, others believe that his divisive style and controversial statements damaged ⁣the party’s⁣ image and turned away moderate voters. DeSantis⁣ seems to be‍ targeting this ⁢group of moderate Republicans and independents who may be looking⁣ for a more inclusive and less polarizing ⁤candidate.

DeSantis’ criticism of Trump’s impact on energizing Democrats‍ is an ‌interesting perspective. While it is true⁢ that Trump’s rhetoric and controversial policies certainly mobilized his ⁣base, ⁢there is also evidence to suggest that ‌it galvanized opposition from the ‍other side. The high voter turnout in the 2020 elections, particularly ‍among Democrats, can in part be ⁣attributed to their strong dislike of Trump and their desire to ⁣vote him out of office.

DeSantis may be attempting to position himself as a unifying ‌figure within the Republican Party, appealing to a broader range of voters by distancing himself⁤ from Trump’s divisive tactics. It is a⁢ political strategy that may⁣ resonate with moderate Republicans and independents who are⁤ fatigued by the extreme ‌polarization within the party. By criticizing Trump’s impact on ⁤energizing Democrats rather than directly ‍attacking Trump himself, DeSantis ‍may be trying to walk a fine⁤ line between maintaining the support‌ of ⁣Trump loyalists while also appealing to a broader electorate.

The question remains, however,⁢ whether DeSantis’ strategy will be⁤ successful. While ⁢there ⁢is undoubtedly a segment of the Republican base that is ready to ⁤move on⁤ from Trump, there are also many who remain fiercely loyal to the former president. For these individuals, any criticism of⁤ Trump may be seen as ⁣a betrayal and could cost DeSantis their support.

In addition, DeSantis ‍will likely face significant challenges from ⁣other potential Republican candidates ⁣in the 2024 presidential race. The Republican Party ‍is still deeply divided, and it ⁢remains to be seen ‍whether ⁤DeSantis can effectively navigate these divisions and⁤ emerge as a strong ‍contender for the nomination.

Ultimately, only time will tell whether DeSantis’ ‍strategy of critiquing Trump’s impact on energizing Democrats will pay off. As the 2024 election approaches, ⁣the Republican Party will need to determine whether it wants to continue down the path of⁢ divisiveness and polarization or if it is ready to embrace a more inclusive and unifying candidate.

Gov.
