The so-called \u2062Finish It\u200d Act, which called upon the administration to construct \u2064portions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-roasted-literally-selling-border-wall-illegal-migrants-flood-country\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">of the wall<\/a> for \u2062which \u2062panels already had been purchased,\u200b had been included in\u2064 the appropriations bill that cleared the\u200c Democrat-controlled \u2063Senate,\u200c and the administration\u2063 wanted\u2063 to sell off those portions\u2062 ASAP before the wall that had been paid for was required\u200b to be built by law.<\/p>\n<p>Less than two months later, the \u200bDepartment \u2064of Homeland Security so desperately wants \u2064to\u200c build\u2062 a border wall to deflect an\u200b immediate crisis along the southern border in Texas that Homeland\u200c Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has waived 26 separate environmental laws\u200d to get it erected posthaste.<\/p>\n<p>Mayorkas\u200b said Wednesday that there was an \u201cacute \u200cand immediate need\u201d for a border wall in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2023\/10\/05\/2023-22176\/determination-pursuant-to-section-102-of-the-illegal-immigration-reform-and-immigrant-responsibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Register \u2062filing<\/a> requesting that the government ignore what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2023\/oct\/4\/mayorkas-declares-immediate-need-border-wall-texas\/?utm_source=Twitter&#038;utm_medium=SocialFlow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Times<\/a> called \u201csome of the country\u2019s most iconic environmental\u2063 protection\u2063 laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere \u200dis presently an acute and immediate need\u200d to \u200cconstruct physical barriers and roads\u2062 in the vicinity of the border of the United\u2063 States in order to prevent unlawful\u2064 entries into the United States\u2064 in the project areas,\u201d \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/house-oversight-committee-hits-dhs-secretary-mayorkas-5-others-subpoenas-biden-family-coverup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayorkas<\/a> said in the filing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn order to ensure the expeditious construction\u2064 of the barriers and roads in the\u200c project areas,\u2064 I have determined that it\u2062 is \u200bnecessary that I exercise the authority that is \u200bvested \u2062in me\u200c by section 102(c) of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/wex\/illegal_immigration_reform_and_immigration_responsibility_act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IIRIRA<\/a> [Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigration Responsibility Act of 1996],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>That act, the Times \u2064reported, \u201cgives \u2062the\u200d Homeland Security secretary the \u200cpower\u2063 to waive laws when necessary to facilitate border construction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr.\u200c Mayorkas\u2019s waiver covers\u200d 26\u2064 federal laws, including the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the\u200b Eagle Protection Act and the Native American Graves\u200d Protection and Repatriation Act,\u201d the outlet said.<\/p>\n<p>This is in\u2063 spite of the fact that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/op-ed-biden-says-not-another-foot-wall-now-2007-voted-stunningly-long-border-barrier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden had \u2063promised<\/a> during\u2063 the campaign that, were he elected, there\u2064 would \u2062\u201cnot be another foot of wall constructed\u201d under\u2064 his administration \u2063and had said on his Inauguration\u2063 Day that the wall was a \u201cwaste of\u200d money that diverts\u200b attention from genuine threats to \u200dour homeland security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayorkas was of a similar opinion, too, since this\u200c is what \u200dthe\u2064 GOP \u200cmembers of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dhs-announces-homeland-intelligence-experts-group-conservatives-immediately-notice-huge-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Homeland Security Committee<\/a> noted\u2063 in \u200da social media post after the Times reported\u2064 the quick about-face:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Interesting \u200dnews considering Secretary Mayorkas told this Committee under oath\u200c that\u2063 he supported Biden\u2019s decision\u2063 to end border wall construction. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/YyCZ15ZRd8\">https:\/\/t.co\/YyCZ15ZRd8<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WjOdqqypBL\">pic.twitter.com\/WjOdqqypBL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 House Homeland GOP (@HomelandGOP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HomelandGOP\/status\/1709665009196789970?\">October 4, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mind you, Mayorkas had already \u200babout-faced on the border wall, promising more would be built. This, however, was the first time he\u2019s made a show about fast-tracking \u200bit under the IIRIRA.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s\u200d not difficult to see <em>why<\/em> \u200dthe administration is in\u200b such a hurry to do this: The border\u200d crisis is back in full swing, fueled \u2063in \u200dpart by a new wave of migrants \u200bfrom\u2063 Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p>The president\u200c already\u2063 has granted work\u200d orders to nearly half \u2063a \u200dmillion Venezuelans who came \u2062to the country illegally, and many illegal immigrants with asylum claims have court dates tentatively <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-admin-released-illegal-alien-america-linked-funding-terrorism-home-country\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">set in\u200b the 2030s<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s amazing, however, how the administration \u2062can turn on a dime \u2062when an election year is coming up and a\u200b border crisis \u2014 \u200bon top of the failure of \u200d\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bidenomics-number-americans-living-poverty-line-skyrocketed-real-wage-decline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bidenomics<\/a>\u201d and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fani-willis-lashes-jim-jordan-claims-house-judiciary-investigation-attempt-obstruct-trump-indictment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weaponization of \u2063the justice system<\/a> against the\u2064 political\u200c opposition \u2014 \u2062doesn\u2019t look too hot to independent\u200b voters\u200c who\u2064 gave doddering Uncle Joe and his crew a chance the \u2062last time around.<\/p>\n<p>However, the border crisis\u200b didn\u2019t happen overnight, and it won\u2019t be stopped overnight, either.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s nice to see Biden and his DHS \u200bbelatedly admit that walls work, but it\u2019s too little, too\u200d late for an administration that has seen a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/invasion-usa-biden-sets-new-border-record-illegal-aliens-encountered-august-equivalent-army\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">record number of illegal immigrants<\/a> cross the southern border.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h3>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/h3>\n<p><em><b>I walked into the office \u2062one morning and\u2064 noticed something strange.
