Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.) expressed her disappointment in how McCarthy \u200cwas treated by \u200cmembers of his own caucus and the impact it has on their\u200d ability to govern.<\/p>\n<p>She\u200b told reporters, &#8220;It&#8217;s\u2062 devastating for our conference. I mean, 98 percent of the conference was with Speaker McCarthy. He&#8217;s done a good\u2062 job. He\u2062 did\u2062 not deserve this. It\u2019s a complete injustice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She added, &#8220;Matt Gaetz undermined \u200cthe entire conference. He undermined the entire institution. He stated, &#8220;I&#8217;m a Republican. I win \u200cby Republicans, and I lose by \u2063Republicans,&#8221; \u2064indicating his acceptance of the vote&#8217;s outcome.<\/p>\n<h2>In Search of a Plan<\/h2>\n<p>Ahead of the\u2064 evening conference, \u2063Rep. Tom Cole \u2064(R-Okla.), chairman of \u200cthe House \u2062Rules Committee and a \u200bMcCarthy\u2064 supporter, stated that there was no \u2063clear plan for moving forward.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Nobody knows what&#8217;s going to \u2064happen. \u200bThe people that voted to vacate have no plan,&#8221; Cole said. &#8220;It\u2019s just chaos at this point.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\" style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) told reporters, \u2063&#8221;I am looking for \u200ba speaker who \u2063will\u200c tell the truth to \u2064the American people,\u200d who will be honest\u2063 and trustworthy with Congress\u2014with both parties.&#8221; \u200cShe did\u2063 not mention \u2062any specific candidate \u200dfor the position.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gaetz stated before the vote, &#8220;We need\u2064 a speaker, ideally somebody who doesn&#8217;t want to be speaker \u200band hasn&#8217;t pursued that at all costs \u200bfor his\u2064 entire adult life,\u2062 who\u200d will take the \u200cmoment and do everything possible to fight for the country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Republicans\u2064 are now faced with \u2063the challenge of resolving their leadership dilemma while also completing \u200bthe appropriations process within \u200dthe 45-day timeframe provided by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/congress-risks-government-shutdown-if-omnibus-bill-not-passed-this-week\/\" title=\"Congress Risks Government Shutdown if Omnibus Bill Not Passed This Week\">continuing resolution passed<\/a> on Sept. 30.<\/p>\n<h2>Rapid Succession of Events<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Gaetz\u2063 had been hinting at \u200cthe possibility of a motion to remove the speaker \u200cfor several weeks and followed \u2063through on the\u2063 threat on Oct. 2.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>McCarthy responded swiftly by scheduling the motion&#8217;s consideration for the following afternoon.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\" style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>(Left) Rep.
