Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as House speaker may be coming to an end as Democrats have indicated they will not come to his rescue.<\/p>\n<p>It will only take five Republicans to \u2063join all Democrats in \u200cstripping Mr. McCarthy of the gavel, which he won in January after 15 rounds\u200c of voting. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) introduced\u2064 the motion to vacate \u200cthe chair.<\/p>\n<p>If successful, \u200dthis would mark the first time a speaker has been removed through a motion to vacate. Former Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) resigned as speaker and from Congress in 2015 before \u2063such a motion could be brought. The upcoming \u200dvote on the Motion to Vacate the Chair is not about any individual. \u2064Our duty as \u2064Members of Congress is tied to the Constitution, the principle of good governance, and the people\u200d we are honored to serve. Nothing more, and nothing less,&#8221; stated Mr. Jeffries.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In that regard, House \u2064Democrats are \u2063still willing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/md-gov-hogan-urges-biden-lawmakers-to-work-together-on-covid-19-relief-legislation\/\" title=\"Md. It is now up to GOP members to end the House Republican Civil War.<\/p>\n<h2>Democrats Stand Against McCarthy<\/h2>\n<p>Several House Democrats have already declared their refusal to support Mr. McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Given the lack of significant\u2064 benefits for Maine\u2019s Second \u200dDistrict, I\u200d see no reason to vote for him,&#8221; stated Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I can\u2019t vote for McCarthy,&#8221; said Rep. Tony C\u00e1rdenas \u200b(D-Calif.), according to Axios&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AndrewSolender\/status\/1709207160394043643?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrew Solender<\/a>. &#8220;His values, his whole life\u200b has been about getting \u2063the brass ring. Nothing about the people, nothing about the institution.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You are only as good as your word\u2014and time and again, \u2063Speaker McCarthy has proven that \u2064he is not a\u2063 man of his word. He is simply not trustworthy,&#8221; said Rep. Annie Custer (D-N.H.), chair of the moderate New Democrat Coalition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While Republicans \u2062have lost their way, Democrats stand united in our purpose and our caucus,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;Leader Jeffries continues to be the steady, forward-looking voice we need to lead our country \u200cforward.\u200b New Dems are proud to stand with our Leader and our\u200c Caucus to\u200b deliver progress for the\u2062 American people,\u2062 not chaos.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rep. \u200dSheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) told \u200dThe Epoch Times that House Democrats will\u2063 follow Mr. Jeffries&#8217; lead.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our vote must be for \u200dmoving\u200b this country forward, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-signal-they-wont-bail-out-mccarthy-ahead-of-crucial-vote\/\" title=\"Democrats indicate they won't support McCarthy before crucial vote.\">ensuring reasonable appropriations<\/a> that do not cut $800 million from programs benefiting \u2064women and children,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And\u2064 we will demonstrate to Russia and others that we\u2062 are committed to standing by \u2063Ukraine because Ukraine is fighting for democracy. We will not abandon Ukraine,&#8221; Ms. Jackson Lee emphasized. &#8220;So we must prioritize these issues and see what the debate brings \u2063on the floor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During Mr. McCarthy&#8217;s time as speaker, the House passed legislation on \u200cthe debt ceiling, border security, American energy, and new IRS agents. However,\u2064 except for the debt ceiling bill, these\u2062 bills have been unsuccessful in the Senate and have no chance of becoming law.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>On Oct.\u200c 2, Mr. Gaetz filed the motion to vacate. In response, Mr. McCarthy posted \u2063on X, &#8220;Bring it on.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>January\u200b Agreement<\/h2>\n<p>As part of an agreement to secure the gavel, \u2062Mr. McCarthy lowered \u2062the threshold for bringing forth a motion to vacate, allowing a single member to do so.<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u2062 Gaetz, who has been in Congress since\u200c 2017, stated on Oct. 1\u2014one day after Congress avoided a government shutdown\u2014that the 45-day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/senate-approves-stopgap-funding-bill-averting-government-shutdown-5501509\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">continuing resolution<\/a> (CR) \u200bto fund \u2062the government was the \u200bcatalyst for his announcement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Speaker McCarthy made \u2062an agreement with\u2064 House conservatives in January,&#8221;\u200b the Florida lawmaker told CNN.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And since then, he has \u2064repeatedly and brazenly violated that agreement. This agreement he made with\u2063 Democrats to bypass many of the \u2062spending restrictions we had put in place is the final straw.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gaetz also alleged, &#8220;Overnight\u200b I learned that Kevin McCarthy had a secret deal with Democrats \u200con \u200bUkraine.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So \u200cwhile he was urging Republicans to vote for a continuing resolution without Ukraine funding, claiming that we would pressure the Senate on Ukraine, he was secretly making a deal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. McCarthy denied \u2062having a side deal with the White House.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech on the House floor on Oct.\u2062 2, \u200cwhere he criticized excessive spending, Mr. Gaetz condemned what he called a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-gaetz-says-hell-file-a-motion-to-vacate-what-that-means-for-speaker-mccarthy\/\" title=\"Rep. Gaetz to file motion to vacate, implications for Speaker McCarthy.\">yellow brick road paved<\/a> by Speaker McCarthy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>During his appearance on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; Mr. Gaetz announced his intention.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I do intend to\u200d file a motion to vacate against Speaker McCarthy this week,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I think we need to rip off the Band-Aid. \u200bI think we need new \u200cleadership that can be trusted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gaetz \u2063cited Mr. McCarthy&#8217;s inconsistency on issues and claimed\u2064 that he failed to keep his promises.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Look, the one thing everyone agrees on is that nobody trusts Kevin McCarthy. He\u200c lied to Biden. He lied to House conservatives. He had appropriators working with a different number altogether,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n<p>On CBS&#8217;s &#8220;Face the Nation,&#8221; Mr. McCarthy responded\u2064 to Mr. Gaetz: Game on.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. McCarthy \u2063stated that Mr. Gaetz&#8217;s desire to take the gavel from him is &#8220;nothing new&#8221; and that he has been trying to do so since Mr. McCarthy ran for speaker in January, eventually winning after \u200b15 rounds\u200b of voting and making numerous concessions to the hardline Freedom Caucus, including lowering the threshold for bringing forth a motion to vacate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He&#8217;s\u2063 more \u200cinterested in getting TV interviews than accomplishing anything. He wanted to push us into a shutdown, even threatening\u200c his own district where many military personnel would not be paid, all because he wants to pursue this motion,&#8221; Mr. McCarthy remarked.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It remains to be seen who will succeed Mr. McCarthy if the motion passes. A speaker pro tempore will be appointed until a permanent speaker is chosen.<\/p>\n<p>Since the House has passed a rules package,\u2064 business, including committee \u2062hearings, can proceed as usual. Potential permanent replacements for Mr. McCarthy include House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), House Majority Whip\u200d Tom\u200d Emmer (R-Minn.), and House GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.).<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Scalise is currently battling cancer. All of them have expressed\u200c support for Mr. McCarthy to retain the gavel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2>Is Jeffries married?<\/h2>\n<p><span>Kennisandra Jeffries\u200d Publican \u200bcolleagues have chosen to put loyalty to former President Trump over loyalty to\u2063 the Constitution and to the American people,&#8221; said Rep. Jeffries. &#8220;We\u200b cannot \u2063allow that \u200dto stand. This vote is\u2062 about \u2063holding Mr. McCarthy accountable for his\u200b failure to uphold the principles and responsibilities of\u2062 the\u2063 speaker&#8217;s office.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The motion to vacate comes as tensions within the Republican Party\u200c continue to rise. Many Republicans are frustrated with McCarthy&#8217;s leadership, which they view as ineffective and lacking in principles. They believe that his focus on appeasing Trump and the far-right faction of the party has led to a loss of focus on policy and the needs \u2064of the \u2063American people.<\/p>\n<p>This \u2063sentiment was echoed\u200c by Rep. Gaetz, who said, &#8220;The American people deserve \u200ca House Speaker who will \u200dfight for them, \u200cwho will put their needs first, and who will uphold the integrity of \u200bthe office. Kevin McCarthy has \u2062proven time \u200dand time again that he is not up to\u200d the task.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If the motion to vacate is successful, it will trigger a vote to elect a new\u2062 speaker. While Rep. Gaetz has not announced his intentions to\u2062 run for the position, there is speculation that he may throw his hat in the ring. Other\u200c potential candidates include Reps.
