The\u200c oath of office was administered by Vice President Kamala Harris, herself a former senator from California, on the Senate\u2063 floor. The ceremony was \u200dattended by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer\u200d and Sen. Alex Padilla, who stood behind Butler \u200das she took the oath.<\/p>\n<p>With her right hand raised, Butler solemnly swore to support and defend the Constitution of the United \u2063States.
