While a bill to provide\u200c $300 million worth of assistance was approved by\u200d a bipartisan majority, it faced opposition from 117 House Republicans. This means that less than half of the House majority\u2062 supported the aid. This disagreement\u2064 created an uncomfortable backdrop \u200bfor a significant \u2064meeting of European\u200b Union foreign ministers in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<h3>European Union Stands in Solidarity \u200bwith Ukraine<\/h3>\n<p>European Union \u2062High\u2064 Representative Josep Borrell expressed support for Ukraine\u2064 during the\u200b meeting, stating, \u201cBy coming to Kyiv, the European Union\u2019s Foreign \u200bMinisters sent a strong message of solidarity and \u200bsupport to Ukraine in\u2064 the face\u2064 of this\u200d unjust \u200dand illegitimate war. We have\u200d been talking about the security commitments that we want to provide to Ukraine, showing\u2063 our \u2063determination to \u2063stand by Ukraine in the long \u200cterm, to deter acts of aggression and \u2063resist\u200d the \u2063destabilization efforts by Russia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, \u200bthe opposition from congressional Republicans who are against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/u-s-sending-additional-military-aid-worth-275m-to-ukraine\/\" title=\"U.S. Sending Additional Military Aid Worth 5M to Ukraine\">sending additional military aid<\/a> to \u200dUkraine contradicted Borrell&#8217;s supportive rhetoric. While European\u200d leaders\u2064 have committed significant\u2063 financial \u200dsupport, the United States remains the primary\u2062 military provider for Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Former Ambassador Bill Taylor, speaking from \u200cKyiv, expressed concern\u2063 over\u200b the events of the weekend. He stated, \u201cThe Ukrainians \u200bare concerned about events over the weekend, as they should be, and \u2063Europeans\u200c as well.\u200c The Europeans are putting on a\u2062 brave face &#8230; [but] they don\u2019t have the capability to do what \u2063we\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The European Union has struggled \u200bto fulfill its pledge to produce a \u2063million rounds of artillery shells by next year, highlighting the need for\u2064 continued U.S. support. \u2064Without it, Ukraine \u2062could face\u200c significant challenges. Taylor\u200c warned, \u201cI think if we \u2064stop our military support, I think Putin could see a path to success \u200con the battlefield\u200d in Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the challenges, there is still optimism among Ukrainian policymakers and some officials. Ukrainian\u2063 Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Oleksandr Merezhko \u200bexpressed hope that a\u2064 majority of\u2063 Republicans would continue to support \u2063Ukraine,\u2063 stating, \u200b\u201cI believe that there will be a happy ending to this story. I understand that Republicans\u200d are \u200dalso diverse, it\u2019s democracy after all, and there is a certain pluralism [of views] \u2064within Republicans, it\u2019s normal, but I hope \u200dthat, still, a\u200b majority of Republicans, they will \u2064follow the example of\u200b Reagan and his policy and will continue to support Ukraine. So, basically,\u2064 I\u2019m optimistic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, some\u200c officials\u200c believe that Putin\u200b sees the congressional battle as\u200c a sign\u2063 of Western weakness.
