These questions address controversial topics such as \u2062the blessing \u2062of gay\u200b marriage and the\u200c ordination of women. They believe it is\u200c their duty, as Bishops in the\u200b College of\u2063 Cardinals, to express their opinions \u200con matters concerning the Church&#8217;s well-being \u2062and to assist the Pope.<\/p>\n<p>The Cardinals express\u200b their concern over recent declarations,\u2062 particularly those made by\u200c the German \u200cSynod \u2064of Bishops, \u200bwhich promoted blessings of \u200dsame-sex \u200bunions and support for \u200cthe ordination of women. They argue that these\u2063 declarations contradict the\u200b Church&#8217;s constant doctrine\u200c and discipline, causing confusion and leading people astray.<\/p>\n<p>After receiving\u200d an unsatisfactory response from Pope Francis, the Cardinals revised their questions and published them in multiple languages. Is the Church teaching \u2064that any sexual act outside the bonds of \u2062the Sacrament of Marriage constitute a \u2062grave \u200csin, still true?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Will decisions made by a small minority of representatives at the &#8220;Synod on Synodality&#8221; \u2014 currently being held in Rome \u2014 exercise the Supreme Authority equal to that given solely to the Pope in union \u2063with \u2062the College of Bishops?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Could the\u200c Catholic Church ever ordain women \u200bpriests?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Can a priest validly\u2064 absolve someone who goes \u2063to Confession with the intention\u200b to continue\u2062 the sin \u2064they&#8217;re admitting \u2063to?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Cardinal Burke is joined by other prominent Cardinals in presenting these questions to Pope Francis. However, due \u200dto \u200ctheir \u2062age, some \u200cof these \u2063Cardinals are \u2062no \u200clonger eligible to vote \u2062in the next conclave.<\/p>\n<p>The Cardinals claim\u200c that the Pope&#8217;s initial answers to their questions did not \u2062follow the usual practice of providing clear responses.
