Because protection from prior vaccination fades\u200b over time and this updated vaccine better matches the currently circulating strains\u2062 the updated dose is recommended. However, a separate\u200c bill known\u2064 as &#8220;The Texas COVID-19 Vaccine Freedom Act,&#8221; aimed at blocking any Texas entity from mandating\u200d COVID vaccines\u2063 for employees, remains stalled.<\/p>\n<p>Texas State Rep. Brian Harrison, a\u200c strong advocate\u200c for a \u200dstatewide ban on vaccine mandates, is urging Governor Abbott to \u2063convene a special session of the legislature to protect\u2063 patient rights.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis is\u200b Texas. We should not \u200dtolerate this here,\u201d said\u2062 Rep. Harrison. \u201cThe governor should demand we pass the Covid Vaccine Freedom Act in a special session. This makes no sense that people aren\u2019t protected.\u2064 The Senate has passed it, \u2062the governor has called for it, and members of\u2062 the House overwhelmingly support it. Now we need to\u2062 do\u200d it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, Rep. Dustin Burrows, a\u200c Republican\u200b member of the Texas House of\u200d Representatives who\u2062 heads the Calendar Committee, has\u200c blocked the bill\u2064 from reaching the floor, frustrating supporters like Rep. Harrison.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe chairman waited until the very\u2063 last day when a \u200bbill could be\u2064 heard\u2063 then\u2062 he\u2064 put it on page nine or 10\u2063 knowing that\u2063 mathematically there would be no chance \u2063for the bill to be heard in time,\u201d said Mr. \u200cHarrison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf \u200dnot for his act, 30 million Texans would have freedom from COVID vaccine\u200d mandates\u2063 and because of his\u200d actions Texans still\u2063 have\u200c to choose between their health\u200c and their\u200b livelihood,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Dr. Mary Talley \u200dBowden, a practitioner in\u200b Texas \u200cand\u2062 founder of Coalition of Health Freedom, warns that the return of mandates, even in a red state like Texas, is surprising many\u200d people.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cToo many people have \u200cfallen into this mindset\u2063 that \u2062COVID is behind\u200d us and that we don\u2019t have to worry\u2064 about mandates anymore,\u201d said Dr.\u200b Bowden.\u2063 \u201cWell, COVID mandates are alive and well in \u200dTexas and\u2064 this could just be the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexas \u200bis not as red as many people would think,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Dr. Bowden highlights the presence\u200b of\u200c Dr. Peter \u2064Jay Hotez, a controversial\u2063 vaccine advocate, at BCM.\u200d Dr. Hotez, the \u2064founding dean of\u200c the National School of Tropical Medicine, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/covid-vaccine-mandates-begin-in-red-state\/\" title=\"Red state enforces COVID vaccine mandates.\">made inflammatory statements comparing vaccine skeptics<\/a> to anti-intellectualism \u200cduring\u2063 the Nazi and Stalin eras.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers in Texas who seek\u2062 to reform the current\u200d system\u2063 face \u2063significant opposition from \u2062the powerful and well-funded medical industry. However,\u200b Dr. Bowden emphasizes that the stakes\u2062 are too high to back down.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, a lot of Texan politicians who people believe \u2064are on their side have been captured by the \u2064medical establishment,\u201d \u200dsaid Dr. Bowden. \u201cWe need to\u200c keep the\u2062 pressure \u200bon because if they can mandate their shot at Baylor College\u2064 of\u2062 Medicine, and get away with it,\u200c it will embolden \u2064others.
