(Photo by Brendan McDermid-Pool\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/brooke-mallory\">Brooke Mallory<\/a><br \/>12:32 \u200bPM \u2013 Monday, October 2, 2023<\/h2>\n<p>The $250\u2062 million civil fraud trial against former President Donald Trump, his corporation, and two of his children was \u2062set \u200cto begin on Monday. <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit could have significant ramifications for the former president\u2019s \u2062enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Wallace at the AG\u2019s office\u200b said in his opening statement before the Manhattan court\u2064 that Trump and employees of his \u200bfirm had committed \u201cpersistent illegal acts,\u201d including excessively inflated financial statements with values \u201cdetermined by Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wallace maintained that Trump overstated his financial position by between\u200d $812 million and \u2062$2.2 billion, \u2064was aware that it\u200c was overstated, and exploited this \u200cto his advantage to acquire perks such as loans at rates to which \u2063he was not entitled.<\/p>\n<p>Wallace \u200bclaimed that Trump attempted to blame Allen Weisselberg,\u2062 the \u2062former chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, for the \u200cfinancial certifications at his\u200d deposition\u2064 in the lawsuit, but\u200c that \u201che was lying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump, \u2062whose attendance was not required at the trial, \u2062still\u200b attended and sat with his arms crossed for the majority\u2063 of Wallace\u2019s testimony before \u200cJudge Arthur Engoron. <\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s business acumen was highlighted in \u2063the trial\u2064 as the attorney general\u2019s office tried its hardest to depict the former president \u200cas an image-obsessed charlatan who purposely exaggerated his accomplishments.<\/p>\n<p>Christopher Kise,\u2064 Trump\u2019s attorney,\u200b said in his \u200dopening statement that the evidence will demonstrate that Trump\u2019s company \u201cmade many billions \u2062of\u2064 dollars\u2063 being right about real estate investments\u201d and that he was \u201cbuilding one of the most successful real estate\u200d empires in the world\u201d as \u200bwell as \u201cone of the most successful brands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He explained to the judge that assessments are arbitrary and made the point that none of the loans to Trump \u200cwere \u2064ever repaid in full. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p><strong>\u201cThere was no fraud,\u201d Kise asserted. \u201cPresident Trump did not make any false statements.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The no-jury trial in \u200bManhattan is scheduled to run for \u2062around three months and end\u200b on December 22<sup>nd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Engoron will decide the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>Alina Habba, \u2062a \u200bTrump attorney who has had disagreements with the judge in the past, followed Kise. <\/p>\n<p>Habba stated\u200d that James\u2019 inquiry was politically\u200b motivated, labeled former \u200cTrump attorney Michael Cohen, one of the AG\u2019s witnesses, as a \u201cliar,\u201d and said that James was\u2064 undervaluing Mar-a-Lago, Trump\u2019s club in Florida, which she maintained is \u201cworth at least a\u200c billion dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, according to the AG\u2019s office, its worth is closer to $75\u200d million.<\/p>\n<p>At \u206210 a.m., Trump\u200d entered the courthouse for the trial and spoke to reporters waiting outside. Letitia James, the state\u2019s attorney general, came \u200dunder fire from him\u200d and was accused of bringing forth the lawsuit in order to harm\u2062 him politically.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p><strong>\u201cThey\u2019re trying\u200b to damage me so I don\u2019t do as well \u200bas I\u2019m doing,\u201d said Trump, who is currently the \u200cleading \u200cfrontrunner for the Republican presidential bid.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The judge only recently took a partial\u200b stance in favor of James\u2019\u2062 office, concluding that Trump had engaged in\u2064 continuous fraud for years, including deceiving banks and\u200b insurers by alternately \u2062overvaluing and\u2063 undervaluing \u2063his assets and vastly misrepresenting his net worth.<\/p>\n<p>The decision, which enabled the trial to begin\u2063 this week, will also affect Trump\u2019s numerous\u2063 limited liability businesses, or LLCs. A <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/iapps.courts.state.ny.us\/fbem\/DocumentDisplayServlet?documentId=op8OyfqVHpc6eGTx9LOw3Q==&#038;system=prod\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/iapps.courts.state.ny.us\/fbem\/DocumentDisplayServlet?documentId=op8OyfqVHpc6eGTx9LOw3Q==&#038;system=prod\" target=\"_blank\">35-page ruling<\/a> \u200c was made \u200bpublic last week\u2064 by Engoron.  <\/p>\n<p>Trump labeled him \u200bas a \u201cTrump Hating \u200dJudge who is unfair, unhinged, and\u200c vicious in his PURSUIT of me\u201d in a post on \u200bTruth Social. A wave of \u200cTrump followers also \u2062commented on the post in agreement.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p><strong>\u201cEverything was \u200bperfect.
