And\u200b then there\u2019s Biden\u2019s backstop, this inimitable\u2062 woman:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The Vice President thinks the border \u2062crisis is a hilarious joke. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/e3SA3JdfKa\">pic.twitter.com\/e3SA3JdfKa<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kevin\u2062 McCarthy (@SpeakerMcCarthy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerMcCarthy\/status\/1402250222525456388?\">June\u2063 8, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However,\u200b for those of you on\u2064 the left who\u200d might \u2063be tempted to think there\u2019s\u200b a \u200csavior in Sacramento named\u200d Gavin Newsom waiting in the wings like a deus ex machina, ready to save the \u2064Democratic Party from itself, I have one name for you: Hank Plante.<\/p>\n<p>Plante, for the unfamiliar, was \u200da fixture on \u2064California\u2019s \u200cairwaves, both in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He\u2019s best remembered for his time\u200c at KPIX-TV in San Francisco, from which he <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20100327095559\/http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/blogs\/nov05election\/detail?entry_id=59783\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">retired<\/a> in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200byear before, Newsom, then the \u200bmayor of San \u2064Francisco, announced he \u2063was dropping out of \u200cthe \u200brace for governor, citing \u201ca young family and responsibilities at\u2062 city \u200dhall,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2009\/10\/newsom-drops-out-of-cali-gov-race-028954\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a>. It probably didn\u2019t help that he was up against popular former Gov. \u2063Jerry Brown \u2064for\u2064 the nomination \u2014 or that, two years prior, he\u2019d \u2064gone through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/politics\/article\/SAN-FRANCISCO-Mayor-speaks-out-about-drinking-2647246.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">outpatient rehab<\/a> for what was \u2062described as a drinking problem after it was revealed he\u2019d had an affair \u200dwith the wife of a former\u200b aide and \u200dclose friend; according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/02\/02\/us\/02newsom.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>, the woman in \u200cquestion\u2062 admitted the affair to her husband while in rehab for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-nfl-insider-breaks-down-top-quarterbacks-ahead-of-draft-day\/\" title=\"EXCLUSIVE: NFL Insider Breaks Down Top Quarterbacks Ahead Of Draft Day\">substance abuse problem<\/a> of her own.<\/p>\n<p>So, when \u200dhe sat down with Plante after he dropped\u2063 out \u200dof the governor\u2019s race, Newsom immediately wanted to talk about San Francisco\u2019s budgetary shortfalls.\u2062 Plante, instead, wanted to know why the mayor had been missing in action after dropping out of the gubernatorial \u2063sweepstakes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Mayor, good to see you, let \u2064me start by asking\u2063 you: Where \u2064have you \u200cbeen?\u201d \u2064Plante said at the top of the cringe-viral clip.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/newsom-biden-big-winner-gop-debate-not-reason-might-think\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newsom<\/a> countered \u2064with \u201c$522.2 million shortfall.\u200d Last year, we had \u200da $570 \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute,\u201d Plante said,\u2063 requesting an answer to the question.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, \u2064Newsom pulled \u2063the oldest of\u2064 political hack tricks: \u201cHey guys,\u200d I\u2019m here\u2064 to\u200c talk about tomorrow, today\u200b and \u200btomorrow.\u200d Not \u200dyesterday,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve been working my \u200ctail off. I\u2019ve been out. I think I had 69 public events in\u200d the last two and a half weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Plante noted that he\u2019d heard Newsom mention that he\u2019d been at these events and asked\u200c his staff for a\u2063 printout \u2062of these appearances. Their\u200b response: Well, you know, they were \u200cinformal events\u2062 and stuff. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-newsom-agree-prime-time-showdown-fox-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newsom<\/a> said, yep, that\u2019s basically it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut look, \u200byou know, the criticism that you have been dodging, not just the press, \u2064but\u200b also the public, that you have been sulking after dropping out of the governor\u2019s race, that you\u2019re having a temper tantrum,\u201d Plante said. \u201cWhat do you\u200d want to say about that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newsom\u2019s response? He\u2019d been \u201cworking\u2063 my tail off, I\u2019ve been here, uh, focused in \u200cSan Francisco.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Plante then mentioned a political cartoon in the San Francisco Chronicle, which showed him as a crying baby, along with the caption \u2062\u201cMayor, Mayor, Off the Wall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u200b \u2014 \u2064who reads \u2064that \u2064stuff? I don\u2019t\u200d read that stuff. I focus on work,\u201d \u2064Newsom said.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, who reads the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/san-francisco-officials-open-investigation-twitter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paper of record in San Francisco<\/a> \u2014 the city where Newsom was,\u200c at that point, the \u200cmayor\u200c of? I don\u2019t know why anyone would accuse this guy of being an absentee mayor or anything.<\/p>\n<p>Then came the official events\u200c that he\u2019d missed, several of which he said\u2063 he was sick for. Then there was the time his press secretary told the \u200cmedia he\u2062 was sick only for everyone to later discover he was\u200c on a plane to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hawaiian-business-savages-joe-biden-belittling-destruction-maui\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hawaii<\/a> because, you know, gotta \u200cget away for a bit.<\/p>\n<p>The press secretary later resigned, part of significant\u200b turnover in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/san-francisco-mayor-defends-maskless-nightclub-party-rest-city-lives-strict-mandates-hints-rules-dont-apply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mayor\u2019s office<\/a> at that point. \u200dHowever, Plante \u2062took issue with the fact this person was \u201cblindsided. These are people who work for you, 15, 16 hours a \u2064day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know where you come up with this,\u201d a\u2063 laughing, visibly uncomfortable Newsom said. \u201cAnd it sort of \u200cmisleads people and \u200dcreates\u200c a \u200dsense of something that really doesn\u2019t exist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So\u2062 when it \u2063came time\u2064 to talk about the deficit \u2014 which, remember, is what Newsom said he wanted to talk about \u200c\u2014 he clammed \u200cup. \u201cYeah. Just got a lot of\u2062 work ahead of us. Big deficit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He would\u2062 then quickly\u2062 leave the interview, telling Plante as\u200c he took off his microphone\u2063 to\u2062 leave: \u2063\u201cOff the record, I\u2019m amazingly disappointed. To be fair to the reality of the \u200bsituation, he also hasn\u2019t changed\u2062 much. Newsom\u2019s rise\u200c to stardom was\u2063 only \u200dbriefly arrested by his sexual dalliances, oenophilia, temper tantrums and absentee mayoralty. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gov-gavin-newsom-officially-calls-convention-change-us-constitution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newsom<\/a> would run for lieutenant governor under Brown during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/03\/07\/weekinreview\/07mckinley.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gov. Moonbeam\u2019s<\/a> second stint\u2063 as\u2063 the state\u2019s leader, then Newsom would \u200creplace \u2064him.<\/p>\n<p>Now, with two regular election wins and\u2064 one recall election \u200bwin\u2063 for governor under his belt, it\u2019s\u2063 clear where his focus is. Plante pushed back, pointing out \u200dthat the people of San Francisco\u200d elected Newsom to be their mayor, and now he was running away\u200c from his responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>The interview quickly went downhill from there, with Newsom repeatedly dodging Plante&#8217;s\u200d questions \u200band refusing to\u2062 address the issue at \u2062hand.\u2064 It was clear that he was more\u2062 interested in deflecting blame and talking \u200cabout anything other than his own failings as mayor.<\/p>\n<p>This exchange between Newsom and\u2064 Plante highlights a key problem within the Democratic Party &#8211; a lack of accountability. Instead\u2062 of taking\u2062 responsibility for their actions and addressing \u200bthe concerns of the American people, many Democrats, like Newsom, \u2063prefer to play politics and avoid\u200d answering tough\u200b questions.<\/p>\n<p>This is not to say that the Republican Party\u2063 is without \u200cits faults. Donald Trump, for example, has been criticized for his brash and controversial style. However,\u2063 what \u200csets Trump apart from Democrats like Newsom is his willingness to engage with the media and answer tough\u200d questions.<\/p>\n<p>During \u2062his presidency, Trump \u2062held \u2064regular press briefings and often spoke directly\u2063 to reporters, even if he didn&#8217;t always like their questions. He understood the importance of transparency \u200dand accountability\u2062 in a democracy, and he was willing to face scrutiny from the press and the American people.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, Democrats \u2063like Newsom \u2063seem more interested\u200c in controlling the narrative and avoiding any criticism. They are quick \u2062to dismiss\u200b legitimate concerns\u200b and instead focus on\u2062 promoting\u2064 their own agendas.<\/p>\n<p>This lack of accountability\u2064 and transparency is a concerning trend within the Democratic Party, and it raises questions \u200dabout their suitability for \u200dleadership positions, including the \u200dpresidency. As voters, we should be looking for\u200d candidates who are willing \u200cto address \u2064tough questions, take responsibility for their actions, and put the needs of \u2063the American people first.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2020 and 2024 presidential \u200csweepstakes, it is essential to\u200b consider the character \u200dand personality traits of the \u200ccandidates. We need leaders who have\u200d a\u2062 first-class temperament, \u200dwho are willing to listen and engage, and who are accountable \u200bto the American people.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, it is up to us, the voters, \u200bto demand transparency, \u200caccountability, \u200dand integrity from our political leaders.
