Lindsey Graham \u200dof South Carolina said \u200bon Sunday that \u2062he believes that funding for Ukraine will be tied to funding for the border, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/4232668-graham-says-ukraine-aid-will-not-be-separated-from-border-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cstopgap\u201d \u200cspending bill offered by Republican \u2062House Speaker Kevin McCarthy of California did \u2063not have funding for Ukraine in it, and several House Republicans, \u2063such as Rep. To those who\u200b say, \u2018we need to do the border, \u2064not Ukraine,\u2019 you\u2019re wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Graham \u2062said the Senate will have a \u201cstrong\u201d border security measure, but also\u2064 pushed for $60 or $70 billion\u200d in Ukraine \u200dfunding\u2064 for the next year,\u2063 according to\u200c the Hill.<\/p>\n<p>Graham\u2019s explanation\u200c for the additional funding: \u201cBecause we need it.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Lindsey Graham,<\/p>\n<p>For your reference \u200cI have attached a map\u2062 that has \u200dSouth Carolina circled\u200c in red.<\/p>\n<p>That is the state you represent. You\u2019re at the wrong meeting,\u201d Graham said, laughing it off.<\/p>\n<p>Later, Graham asked the crowd, \u201cDo you believe in family values? How would you like that to happen to your family?\u201d the Daily Mail \u200creported.<\/p>\n<p>The same audience member \u2063yelled\u200b back, \u201cIt is!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust shut up. Get out of here!\u201d Graham snapped before going into \u200ba tirade about Putin.<\/p>\n<p>But the man had \u200ca\u200c point that Graham \u200dand others like him refuse to concede.<\/p>\n<p>While\u2062 our border agents report being understaffed and \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/graphic-content-warning-border-patrol-agent-bloodied-illegal-alien-smuggler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in regular danger<\/a> for their \u2062lives, a report in \u2062September\u2063 revealed that U.S. taxpayers are not just paying for ammunition and\u2064 costs of the\u2062 war in Ukraine; we are also\u2063 subsidizing farmers, small businesses and paying for first responders in the European nation.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s like taking your girlfriend\u2019s kids out for ice cream while your kids are starving at home.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">60 Minutes discovered the U.S. is financing more than weapons in Ukraine. The government is buying\u200c seeds\/fertilizer\u200d for \u200dfarmers, paying the salaries of 57,000 first responders \u200dand subsidizing small businesses. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vKWwWDqUwM\">https:\/\/t.co\/vKWwWDqUwM<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BxXItNgQce\">pic.twitter.com\/BxXItNgQce<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 60 Minutes (@60Minutes)\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/60Minutes\/status\/1706088303970152541?\">September 24, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Graham, McCarthy\u200c will help Ukraine. \u201c\u2026 But he\u2019s telling everybody in the country, including me, \u2018You better\u2063 send something \u2064over\u2063 the border for me to \u200dhelp \u2064Ukraine,\u2019 and he\u2019s\u200c right \u2063to make that demand,\u201d Graham said, according to The Hill.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/kevin-mccarthy-ukraine-border-security-lindsey-graham\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a>, President Joe \u200bBiden said that\u2063 he expects\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-low-kevin-mccarthy-appalled-dems-obstruction-democratic-process\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McCarthy<\/a> to \u201ckeep his commitment to the people of Ukraine and\u200d secure passage of the support needed to help Ukraine at this critical moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Biden reiterated his commitment, not to the border but to Ukraine, saying, \u201cWe cannot under\u200c any circumstance allow\u200c American support \u2063for Ukraine to be interrupted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStop the games. Get to work,\u201d Biden said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/kevin-mccarthy-ukraine-border-security-lindsey-graham\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS \u2063News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also on Sunday, in response to reporters\u2019\u2064 questions, Biden suggested McCarthy and Democrats had reached some sort of arrangement on funding for Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Asked by \u200dreporters if he thought McCarthy could be trusted to follow through\u2063 on deals, \u200daccording\u2062 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/biden-suggests-democrats-have-new-deal-with-republicans-ukraine-aid-2023-10-01\/#:~:text=Biden%20urged%20Republicans%20to%20move,in%20Congress%20not%20to%20wait.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a>, Biden responded, \u201cWe just made one about Ukraine, so we\u2019ll find out.<\/p>\n<p>When McCarthy\u2019s office was\u2062 asked if such assurances were\u2064 given, his office issued a \u201cnon-statement\u201d \u200dthat said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/10\/01\/politics\/democrats-kevin-mccarthy-speakership\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>, \u201cSpeaker McCarthy has been clear and consistent: we have an\u2064 obligation to fix the\u2062 crisis at the \u200bborder and to ensure any request \u200dfor further aid\u2064 to Ukraine is matched \u200cwith \u2064a sound strategy and accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That might \u2064sound \u2064like stern thinking, but it\u2019s important to remember that the crisis on the southern border\u200d is not some one-time humanitarian disaster. It\u2019s an ongoing situation. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2023\/09\/30\/how-many-migrants-crossed-the-border-2023-mexico-venezuela-2022\/70979085007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a> reported, the 2.8 million contacts between border enforcement and illegal aliens in 2023 came after 2022 \u200cwhen there were 2.7\u2063 million contacts.
